Makena Stables

My wife decided to celebrate her 50th birthday on Maui. She then wanted to check off a bucket list item to take a horseback ride to the beach. We were welcomed by the owners with open arms. They made us feel really comfortable and quickly got us up to speed on the ranch and the horses. Their pup loves to play fetch, so warm your arm up upon arrival. We rode Smokey and Tucker down the path as Pat led us to the beach for a few pictures and then up the hill for more amazing views. Thank you so much, amazing!

This was by far the high light of my trip to Kihei . The way the animals are treated and the knowledge of the area is unsurpassed. You get the best of the island.You walk along the beach, go on a path through the lava field and up in the hills. Pat is explaining the culture and the area at every stopping place. I have horses of my own so know that these guys have a great life at Makena stables . Absolutely loved it . Highly recommend them

You can not go wrong here! The horses are well taken care of and it shows. They only work one ride a day, The best I have seen. They take the time to see what your comfort levels are to make sure you have a great fit. They explain what to expect and what you will be experiencing. The owners are awesome! They will provide fruits, snacks and water before you go on your long ride and also when you return. A 10+ rating for me!

Enjoyed a beautiful ride today with my daughters. The views were amazing and the owners and guide made it my favorite experience here on Maui. I do not ride, but my one daughter is an avid rider and it met both our expectations. Easy enough for me to handle and exciting enough for her. My husband and son hiked along the coast while we road and they got the most awesome pictures of sea life and scenery. What a bonus! Thank you Makena Stables!

This was a fantastic experience! Corrine and Robert were very accommodating with cold water and snacks along with giving us some history on the island while out on the trail!!

It was a beautiful ride. They are great people with very experienced horses. They are the only stables on Maui that go to the beach and up in the hills. I would recommend them to everyone. I told all the people I met while I was there about them and said it was a must do event.

My husband, daughter and boyfriend rode horses at Makena Stables. It was a class act experience. Ive ridden horses many other places but the guide personalized the experience and made sure we all understood the best way to ride. They even matched our personalities with the best horse. I highly recommend them!

Pat was great, so much local knowledge, really appreciated the time spent with us. Couldnt have asked for better company! Absolutely gorgeous scenery. The horses were well trained, comfortable to ride, very surefooted, handled the terrain like pros. Will definitely make this a must every time we visit Maui! Thank you guys for a great day!

My daughter and I had an wonderful time riding at Makena Stables. We loved that it is smaller and only 3 people were in our group. Our leader Ray was wonderful and we cant wait to ride here again.

All I can say is wow. This is by far my favorite activity in Maui. Makena Stables is located outside ofWailea and is in a quieter area, which is really relaxing. The employees at the stables are very well trained and dedicate their full time into the care of the horses. The horses are calm and very strong and smart. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this to anyone! Wish I could go everyday or even possibly work there!

My husband and I did the sunset ride during our honeymoon in Maui... needless to say it was by far our favorite part of our vacation. It was worth every penny and is actually pretty comparable to other stables on the island. Heidi our guide was great & informative and the views were stunning. The horses looked well-cared for and were amazing trail horses- very easy to ride, even for my husband who was a first timer. To my knowledge this is the only stable that offers a ride where a portion is actually on the coast in the sand. We also went through wooded areas, lava fields, and cliff side to watch the sunset over the ocean. When we go back to Maui one day we both agreed well go back to Makena Stables!

One of the best horseback experiences on the planet. We were lucky enough to have the pleasure of riding with a guide who is a HI native medicine man who told us history, great stories and informed us on all the great medicinal plants of the area. Well kept horses and easy to ride. If you get there early or have some extra time, do visit the nearby church where Charles Lindbergh is buried. We left real early and drove the back way down the West side of the island on the dirt road over the lava fields to the stables. Gorgeous views and then afterwards took the drive up the Hana Hiway on the East side. This is an AWESOME thing to do on Maui....nothing can compare to Makena Stables!

We started the journey by driving through a state park filled with huge lava fields that looked like MARS to me. I recommend leaving an hour or two early for the sunset ride (starts at 3:30 pm) so that you have time to hop out at one of the beaches you pass on the way or to explore the lava fields in the state park.Our tour guide Christine was so happy, friendly, and knowledgeable. We toured through lava fields, isolated beaches with mixed lava/coral boulders, saw wild goats and deer roaming the volcano, climbed to the top of one of the most recent lava vents to see what I thought was intriguing lava formations, and I loved my gentle horse Akahi. My wife and I are beginner level horse riders and we never felt frightened or in danger. Its obvious that the workers love their horses and nature...its not just a tourist trap. Thank you Makena stables!!

Very friendly people...even if im a local here on Maui. Whos fish out there.
