You dont even know how much you dont know about lighthouses! Sure, I climbed the 72 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Yes, the views were amazing & I took plenty pictures. An, of course, I now want my own lighthouse! The unexpected treasure was the history & explanation of how lighthouses function. The keeper was a plethora of information, which, he shared willingly.
This was such a nice experience to go visit! It was an easy drive from Chicago here. The port area will allow you two see two lighthouses, with the original one set further back. The history was fascinating. It was nice to tour the lighthouse keepers home (two families lived there at once!) and see how that was restored too.
Recommend that everyone check out all of the free museums in Kenosha! This one was an interesting study in how lighthouses functioned and how the keepers lived. This site had a female keeper back when that wasnt the norm. Also interesting to find out about the ships that divers can check out off these shores. The curator has a wealth of knowledge to share.
I love this town. Nice walking paths and plenty to see and do in this area.
The tour guide was amazing. Learned a lot. For a reasonable fee you can also go into the Lighthouse itself and it has an amazing veiw all around as long as you can make it up all 75 steps. Worth the climb!
Kennoshs Wisconsin history at its best. Closed for the winter but docents are great presenters of one of the few remaining Keepers homes and separate brick signal beacons. Two story home with stairs. Light House is not for the weak kneed! Wonderful 360 degree view.
The light house station is at the beginning of a long boardwalk on both sides. I was here for some meetings ad I went on a nice long and windy run.
Beautiful lighthouse!! Informative tour of the keepers house, and got to climb to the top of the tower! There is a small fee, but it is worth it.
The lighthouse is in beautiful shape. We had hoped to see the museum too, but it ended up being closed.
Great for walking around
Really neat to explore with kids. We went there in the summertime and it was still a bit chilly and breezy but very nice weather.
One of the most beautiful lighthouses in area. Make sure to visit also a museum.
I grew up in Kenosha, but havent been back in years. This light and Petrifying Springs are 2 of my favorite places in the world
Cool
Wasnt open on a beautiful afternoon
Gotta check it out at least once.
