I had an awesome time celebrating Kwanzaa. Its a cultural holiday celebrating African heritage and culture with dance, music, history, spoken word, and more. As a black man, I strongly encourage my brothers and sisters to participate in this holiday to reinforce unity and knowledge of ones self in our communities.
This is my 1st time here and it was absolutely wonderful. It was for Charles & Alkeesha Williams Wedding it was so beautifully heartfelt, and after the Wedding reception there was a play called, For Better or For Worst and THAT too was a show stopper!!! From 2pm to 10 pm was THE BEST time well spent! CONGRADULATIONS To the new couple, and very well done you two on the play!!!!
Great theater. Ive been here for a number of events and the venue is very well maintained. It is truly a gem.
I love the 18th and Vine district
Awesome experience. The Concert for Julian Vaughn and friends was amazing. Love the Christmas tree outside. Really makes me feel in the holiday mood.
What a fantastic theater.️️️ Truly one of the treasures of Kansas City MO.️ Not to mention that its one of the sparkling gems of the Jazz District.. Thank u KCPT, public television, for helping this event become a reality️
Loved going to the GEM Theater. We had a great night with the high schools performing on March 07, 2020.
Beautiful concert space. Only place I know where the conductor wears a tiara. Best show in KC.
The GEM THEATRE is ALWAYS AMAZING ️ SUCH A BEAUTIFUL ESTABLISHMENT!ITS ALWAYS NICE THEY CONTINUE CELEBRATING KING BUCK ONEILS BIRTHDAY HE WOULD HAVE BEEN 108YRS. OLD!
Great space. Parking is good. The area is fresh and welcoming, deserves more than what you once heard it was.
This is a place with great history. It is a small venue, but it is worthy of the notice. It was build for African Americans to use as entertainment to see silent films.
A great concert with Alex Bugnon and Eric Darius. The acoustics were amazing but the stage lighting needs to cover more area because The artists Eric Darius would walk outside the lit area into darkness and you couldnt see him. Also need a spot light when he walked into the audience, which was a great point in the event.
Great place to have an event. Every seat in the theater is a great location.
There was a wonderful program honoring several Black influenchal men and women in our community I am glad to get to be part of this historical event at such a beautiful place
Great time. Went to hear a flutist and saxophonist, the sound was excellent.

Its an absolutely beautiful building with always amazing events going on! They are under renovation right now, but I honestly cant wait to see the new updated lobby!
Been coming here for kwanzaa since I was little. I love it.
Great Theatre. I went to see Oleta Adams and she was fabulous.
Watched the amazing Sammy Davis documentary here about his 60 year journey as an African American entertainer!
Always a since of Pride and Joy attending events there on 18th and Vine. And the historic Gem Theater is a great reason why. Its nicely decorated and designed with memorabilia from its early days of opening (not a bad seat in the house) restrooms are clean/ spacious & equipped with floor length mirrors.
Definitely a historic theater in Kansas City but it is a little dated

I attended a Domestic Violence Awareness conference here. The venue itself was nice! The seats are not very good for sitting for such a long time but it was bearable.
The Gem Theater is a really nice theater. Parking is challenging. Come early to any event to guarantee close parking. Otherwise youll have to walk at least a block or more.

Not a bad seat in the place! Parking stinks but so far, weve even found parking on the street which has been safe and relatively close.
I attended a fundraiser for Camp Encourage here last year, and am back again. It is a great theater for comedy, and also I saw an excellent ballet here with the Fringe Fest.
Not really a bad seat in the house
Went for a meeting. Accoustics okay - it was quite cold inside -

Kinda cold inside otherwise nice
I had no idea of historical significance of the Gem Theater and the surrounding places around 18th and Vine in Kansas City. There is so much to see and do here; an entire afternoon was insufficient.
Great restoration of a historic theater. A must see if you can.
