SO MUCH FUN. First things first. Cash only. Cash only. Next, dress up. My friends and I love coming here. We all get dressed up and dance for hours. I can’t say enough good things. I love this place.
Fun as hell. Good vibes.
This place is always a blast! It can be sometime Feel over crowded but it’s still so much fun!!!
Funky Town gets 5 stars for being unapologetically what it is. Its a drive from most of the greater KC area, which makes it a destination. And its worth it! I think the $10 cover is a little steep, but otherwise, Im totally down with Funky Town! Its definitely the place to go with a large group, but you dont have to. Its also fun to get dressed up to suit the theme, but you dont have to. The age range is wide and also the types of people is varied, which is another reason its great. I like that they dont let drinks on the dance floor. If you dont have a good time at Funky Town, you are the one who is boring.
This place is so much fun!! Whether you just turned 21 or are having a retirement party this place is a blast. All ages, a wide variety of people, fun attire, outstanding music and awesome atmosphere. Great choice for a night out! If you dont have a blast, youre not trying!
This is my second time at this bar with equally painful experiences from the staff. Some random person on the dance floor handed me a drink and I was promptly kicked out of the bar without anyone in my group having caused trouble. The bouncers much like last time were exceptionally rude and immature then only after my wife reprimanded them outside the bar did they reluctantly let us back in. We arrived on a party bus full of people and almost every person has a negative experience to share. For the inconvenience of a cash bar (credit cards were around in the 70s btw) that also has a cover charge, we expected more but as the old saying goes fool me twice shame on me. Funky Town management, please train your staff accordingly since Ive seen many reviews like this in your ratings. Im not sure if its because we are a younger crowd for this establishment being 25 year olds but none of my friends will be returning to this bar.
First time few Friday ago and this place is Amazing energy and outstanding dance floorNeon lights balcony VIP dance cages the decorations from the 80s disco ball the cool treeOf course the love shack Bamboo bar.You got to see this venue its definitely a hidden treasure meet me there Friday night wear your best dancing shoes and your awesome outfit!!!☆☆☆☆☆ Friendly staff Beautiful bartenders.
So fun! Our waitress was quick and kind. But Every time I’m there The dj Can’t seem to shut up. He Played a lot of Taylor Swift, but everyone seemed to like the oldies better(we are there to hear something most other bars don’t play) Instead of going up to people and asking them to take their drinks off the dance floor as they usually do, he interrupted the song 3 times! To announce to one or two people they needed to set their drinks down(it wasn’t even crowded!) it’s the same guy every time and I wish he’d just think more about the next he was (planning?) on playing
I had a great experience at Funky Town until our experience with Brandon. Everyone was dancing and it was packed. However, Brandon, the bouncer who must kick out those with drinks on the dance floor was unnecessarily rude. It was my first time at the venue and I did not know drinks were not allowed on the dance floor. He proceeded to take my full drink, spilling half of the $5 beer on my shirt. I would’ve gladly gone off the dance floor, as I was unaware of the rule. He was very rude and I will not go back because of him. The bar is cool but the staff is not something I want to experience again. I understand he has a difficult job but they need to understand that is a rule that is not common at other bars and make it more apparent or be nicer when it’s someone’s first warning.
Its a weird fun place
Had a wonderful time with friends for a birthday party. The women’s restroom was very clean, spacious, and has a couple chairs to sit in if you’re exhausted. People love to complain about the cash only bar, but when the drinks are twice the size of what I can get somewhere else, I will gladly wait. Unfortunately, they chose not to open the second bar until after 10:30, when we already had to wait almost 30 minutes in a line that wrapped around the check in and back into the seating area. They should definitely open the second bar by 10:00.My biggest critique is the lack of public awareness of the house rules. House rules aren’t posted anywhere (acceptable dress code, no drinks on the dance floor, etc.). If the patrons were more aware, then there wouldn’t be so many comments about the “rude staff”.
Cool atmosphere but weird rules. No drinks on the dance floor? Door guy was also pretty rude.
I have been here a few times and every single time I go I have a BLAST! The people there are nice and welcoming and I love the variety of people that go. The drinks are also delicious and theyre much bigger than you would get at any other dance club. I highly recommend this place if youre looking for a good time!
The door people were incredibly rude and disrespectful. We had a whole party bus of people coming to give our business and only half of us were actually let in. Then the fire department showed up because they were over capacity. Extremely disappointed by this experience.
This dance club is so awesome!!!!!! Its a safe place to have ladies night! They are really on it with NO drama, trouble anything. Classic disco and 70s theme and come dressed in 70s and disco theme! Time of my life I already made reservation to go back which is highly recommended in advance. You can still go in just might not have a table to sit at. Love this place!!
Been there many of times and always had a great time! You will too!
Like trying really hard - but the staff was insanely rude. They have a weird dress code. Yelled at in rudest way possible to remove a hat, they didnt have half of their drinks ready... and they wouldnt be for an hour and a half, a friend brought a drink onto the dance floor - promptly yelled at... the crowd was pretty basic too. its not worth the semi interesting decor.
The door lady was VERY RUDE. I get out of my Uber and she proceeds to tell me that I can’t enter because my shorts are cuts offs. They are American eagle shorts by the way. Just kind of seems like she was upset because I was cute. There could have been a million different ways to handle that. I understand if I was breaking a dress code violation and I’m all about following the rules buttttttttt we came all the way to basically get disrespected on sight, pretty rude. ALSO as we waited for our ride she proceeds to smoke about 5 cigarettes which do you boo boo but that’s super unprofessional. I don’t think you should allow her to be the face of your business. I would give zero stars if I could.
Went to Funky Town last night for the first time with a group of friends. I had a wonderful time and it was such a great atmosphere! The reason Im not giving 5 stars though is because the door lady was ridiculously rude to me right off the bat. I went with a classic 90s look with ripped jeans which I guess is against the dress code. Thats fine but the way she said it made me think she was kidding (since Ive never been here before) and she just went off on me it was extremely unprofessional and made me want to leave but she let me in anyways. She definitely needs an attitude adjustment or a new job because she hit me with the Im really tired of people asking me why ripped jeans are against the dress code. And kept rolling her eyes. It was also insanely hot inside, which there was a lot of people in there so they cant help that. But other than that I had a really good time, my calves are actually sore from dancing the night away!
Pretty much the same as the reviews before this one. The dance floor vibe was awesome and the bars theme is a really cool concept. However, the staff was rude and uninviting. Brandon in particular was very rude to several people in our group. Wont be going back as a result.
Best dance club in KC, maybe the world! Many people come in period attire from the 70s and 80s! Extremely friendly people many of them are regulars. Great food, incredible fun.
I loved everything about this place. That is until I took out my phone to take a picture of me, my husband, and my friends and they said no videos. Thats all well and good but there was nothing posted inside, on their website, or on their Facebook page stating no pictures or videos. One of the staff had an attitude about it almost braking his neck to see what I was doing on my phone. But all in all good fun, good music, great atmosphere.
Honestly one of the worst bars you can go to. The staff is so rude, and their dress code is ridiculous. I understand concepts like, “no wife beaters” but no ball caps or ripped pants. It’s 2019. This podunk backwater Bar is not worth your time unless you are 40+. I tried to make it a spot for my friends, but the owner is straight garbage. Unless you grew up in the 70s stay away. This bowling alley turned club is not for 35 and under.
$10 cover cash only, only two people allowed in the door at a time. Dingy old building, packed full of sloppy drunks and a bunch of surprisingly old people. Music blaring as loud as any heavy metal concert Ive been to. Bar is also cash only, and their ATM fits the 1970s theme by being old junk.
SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!! Great music with a wide variety (mostly 70s & 80s but some 90s and current). Cool seeing people dressed up in 70s costumes! Some were pretty outrageous! Expensive mixed drinks but decent price on bottled beer.
Five cars had their windows busted out November 18, 2017. There was a guy on staff standing outside the front door smoking all night and he “didn’t hear a thing.” The place is good novelty fun, but if you can’t count on your vehicle being in one piece when you leave...We WON’T be returning.
My favorite place to dance
Had a great time!! If you grew up in the 70’s and 80’s you will love this place. Your feet will hurt for a week from dancing so much. Doesn’t look that great from the outside, but such a great time.
Run down facility. Got ill NYE due to them not really rewashing, and reusing plastic cups
Not only does it play my favorite dance music, but I have found that Funkytown is the safest club in the metro area to get my dance fix. The bouncers/management watch out for me in the parking lot as well as on the dance floor. It is nice to be able to relax and have fun.
Great Place for somewhere I didnt know stoll existed. After all of these years. Great music and atmosphere. And great people. Definitely a must go to place. If you are in the area.
So strange ~ we couldnt even get in. Couldnt get a reservation so we, 10 of us - got there right at 8:00 and stood in line. Apparently they let reservation people go first. Was frisked by a guy with a seriously bad attitude - but didnt explain the process - waited in our line while they let in 2 (two) people at a time from the reservation line. it was pretty chilly so at 8:50 after standing outside waiting to give them cash and buy their drinks we decided to take our business elsewhere. Wont return! tried to give it 0 stars....
Staff was rude and unpleasant towards my wife, bartenders charge men more than women for the same exact drink, price for entry online says $8, but $10 at the door, and says they close at 1:30 AM online but they kick you out at 1AM.
Had a blast!!! The door charge was $10 than all the drinks were cash only. No cards
Heard raving review of Funky Town to the point where I had to go! Wasnt sure what to expect but am so happy that I made the trip! Had a great time!! The chicken strips were awesome, the shrimp, mouth watering!! Planning a return trip! One suggestion, to owners. Holding reserved tables over an hour when you have patrons ready for the experience is not good at all. That was the only negative experience the entire night! Stood for about an hour and a lady who had 7 tables, offered us a seat....
The good: The place is real weird. In a cool way. But also in a way, that like, you can imagine Bill Cosby might put on a wig and go here to find ladies for his needs. The drinks were a tad pricey but also boozey. The bad: They charge a cover and you have to pay cash. The bar is cash only. The staff was rude. Its a dance club and the place was very warm when I went there, and THEY CHARGE FOR WATER. FOR WATER. IN A WARM DANCE CLUB IN AMERICA. Is that even legal? Ugh.-LS
Apparently, this establishment is exempt from the laws of the ADA. Came tonight with our 83 year old grandmother... And was told there was nowhere for her to sit. We were then told by the lady at the front desk that reservations that did not show up by 9 p.m would be canceled. At 9:15 p.m., there was an unclaimed table, and we chose to sit in the chairs. At 9:20, management approached us and told us that the table is reserved, and we had to give it up. After three requests for a chair for her to sit in, she was still denied even a single chair to sit in. Thankfully, everyone around us all the situation, and helped us work with a group who had reserved the table who did not need all their chairs. This was an unbelievable experience for her, and with bad knees and hardly able to stand, an hour and 15 minutes seem like forever.
One of my absolute favorite places! The staff arent great with parties (whether you made a reservation or not) but the place itself makes up for that tenfold. I always have the best time. Dont be deceived by the location and the outside of the building, its a total blast, and they play the best music.
I have been to Funky Town several times. But lastnight, I guess my torn jeans looked too good on me, and the OLD lady at the door told me NO TORN JEANS. LOL. Who wears jeans that arent torn? Hello? Where yal at? ...exactly. NOBODY
Wed give 0 stars if the option was available. This place is a total dump!
We always have a good time when we go.
Great time. Cash only for door and bar. There is a small patio you can smoke on. A little expensive. I believe the doir cover charge was 8$
Went for my birthday . The waitress was awful, food was raw, orders were wrong. When I was in line for a drink, I had to wait over 20 minutes and then the people behind me were served first. Very dissatisfied with the entire experience.
Worst staff ever! Rude and dirty. They only played music pertaining to a certain group and had no knowledge of good disco, what a joke! They charge you a re-entry fee which is absolute bs. I will not be giving them my business again!
Is an amazing place to go on a Saturday night with friends! We always rent the upstairs VIP area for a group of 12 to 20 every time we go. Well worth it!
Had a blast and I dont even drink;) Only issue I have is that I couldnt bring my 17 and 20 year olds who love to dance and dont drink. Wish you could have a bring your kids night once a week. We would be there every week. Would open up a whole new market.. No place in Kc to bring kids or young adults to dance. Would be a great example to set that you can dance and have fun without drinking alcohol. You could have all kids of fun drinks that dont have alcohol. Bet youd make just as much money...
The most fun Ive had in years. Everyone had fun!!! Place was packed!! Great experience!! Cant wait for next weekend.
Funky Town is a hidden gem among the bars and clubs within Kansas City; not your traditional pick up bar or dive but something truly unexpected. If the top notch music does not suit the non stop theatrics including a live car wash, motorized car and dancing buildings will keep everyone entertained.Dress to impress, Funky Town does enforce a dress code as well as a cash only bar and $5 cover...
Great music. Great atmosphere. Drink prices are reasonable. Well managed.
Funky Town was amazing. My husband and I usally dont get out to much cause of crazy people, but this place had good vibe that hold time. We will definitely be going back!!!!
Good time! Good music
This is the place for everyone!!!Don’t have to know how to dance to have a wonderful time!
We had a great time!Great people and music and Great people!
So good to dance again!
Its good for fun and dancing and food spend time with friends.
Great fun. Good for people watching. Dancing, pool, drinks, and food. Dress up is fun. Cash only. Management very responsive to fb message. Good for bday or girls night out.
Always GREAT to come here if your older than 28 years old its a good variety of music FROM our days and people around you.
Fun club that really takes tou back in town. Nice mixed crowd of all ages always have a blast!
Super fun place to shake it off and be yourself. Drinks are great prices and the wait staff is superb. Light hearted fun atmosphere.
This place is awsome i havent seen a place like this one in a long time, glad to be here
Can we go negative 10? The club itself is a blast. Once you get leave your vehicle in the parking lot you re SOL. Supposedly they have security cameras which didnt help us at all when they directed us to park in a back lot where our Ford F350 which supports our livelihood... was stolen. Ive gotten messages from people all day who have had their cars broken into and stolen. Even an X employee who said this was normal when they worked there and that the club doesnt care whatsoever. The treatment we got last night was to bad for ya from a person with a staff shirt on and the only other word was.. Id call the cops. No manager, no help. No care. Its crazy. Go have a blast in the club it is great but I certifiably wouldnt drive any vehicle there and park it. Take a cab,bus etc or dont go.
Fun atmosphere, great music.
Great place.. Packed inside.. Great time
Big and roomy mixed crowd 70s and 80s music you can be yourself
Just a dump hole dance club, no waitresses had to stand in line for drinks and they are really slow. the choice of music was good lots of rude people though. I did not like the place.
Great music.. fun crowd .. awesome throwback disco!
This place rocks. A foam machine, pool tables, wacky people in 70s outfits. This place is a freaking riot.
I started going to funky town on 1207. But I dont go to nos, I can going to One more time
A great time. Active dance floor and strong drinks.
Good place to have fun at, drinks are not expensive, nice atmosphere
Absolutely fun! Great atmosphere, great staff.
Get your throwback time completed for the whole year. You gotta visit at least once a year or month!
Unexpectedly fun. The people were just there to have fun.
Really a nice atmosphere, fun, and Im gonna kicc it wit baby, and our friends and family!!!
Lots and lots of pretty women
Bathrooms are dangerously filthy. Food sucked. However with 30 hookers posted up in parking lot I had a good time.
Such a weird, fun place to dance. Cash only.
Fun atmosphere just wish the drinks were a little cheaper
Great atmosphere. Cash only bar though... And a tad pricey...
Best dance bar in KC: fun music, fun atmosphere!
What a great time and atmosphere. If they were in Chicago or New York they would be billionaires
I enjoyed myself! It was on the expensive side, from the cover charge ($20) to the drinks. They have private security patrolling the parking lot throughout the night though which was an added comfort from the moment of arrival. I had a couple $9 long island iced teas, but they came in a large cup that I was pleasantly surprised to have received for the price I paid. They were pretty busy, so there was a wait at the bar to order drinks/food, but nothing that struck me as poor service. I did enjoy an order of fried mushrooms from the kitchen which were delicious! Plenty of places to sit off to the side and out of the way, a back patio for smokers, a couple pool tables and a small dining area. A fairly large dance floor exists and seems to be where the majority of the patrons hung out. They played music that spanned late 60s - late 80s disco dance tunes, with the occasional modern hit thrown in here and there. In my opinion, the interesting & unique thing about this nightclub was the art decor. You can catch a glimpse/preview of such in the parking lot (which can be seen as you arrive via 350 HWY and/or 63rd Street) but it gets much more intricate once inside. It definitely places you in a world all its own, and a very fun and active environment at that! By the time I left, I was convinced that Funkytown was the perfect name for this one of a kind dive bar. Id recommend to anyone who asked or is looking for something different and unique from the nightlife experience! Be prepared to spend at least $35-50 at a minimum. Theres also a QuikTrip less than a couple minutes down 63rd Street for those closing time munchies.
Very rude staff and arent very intelligent, the mozzarella sticks I ordered werent cook all the way.
So much fun and different than other clubs
So fun.... especially when Carwash comes on...
Not enough serverd! We reserved a table and after the first 2 times she checked in that was it we did not see her unless we looked for her, ordered food wasnt cooked sent back.
Are you 20,30,40 and you want hear your music? This is the place I love it
Theres a reason they call it funky
Bring your friends here and you will have a blast! There is a $8 cover but its totally worth it.
People are ride. Always trying to start fights. They are out of control.
So much fun
If you are into the neon this is your place.
I wish I could give 0 stars, this place is terrible.
Lots of great dance music
Way over priced...not a fun place for out of towners. Will not make a stop here again.
Great dance floor !!!
Awesome
