Such a cool old school steak house. Fabulous food. Upscale fine dining. Casual to dressy attire. Two dining floors. Downstairs is a jazz musician and full menu and you get to eat in what used to be a speak easy. The third floor members only cigar bar and club. Definitely need reservations. The twice baked potato is probably the best Ive ever had. Lamb chops were melt in your mouth good. Steaks were cooked perfectly. Excellent selection of bourbons and wine. Cant believe Ive never been before and cant wait to go back.

Wonderful service and food! My favorite restaurant in KC. They do lamb and steak the best in KC. The service is so amazing. You really feel like you’re treated well and pampered. They know how to do hospitality well. I’m a single mom and brought my son and niece for a nice evening at the majestic. They treated us so well and everything was cooked perfectly. The piano player played all my favorite songs from old 40-50 movies. What a gem in KC. I recommend this place!

Excellent morning atmosphere and evening atmosphere. We have been twice once for brunch and once for dinner. I had the Beef Tenderloin Tip bowl for brunch along with two Bloody Marys all which was excellent. For my dinner meal I had the Dry aged 12 oz. rib eye medium rare and it was cooked superbly. I also had a cup of the steak soup and I cant even explain how good it was. This is a must visit if you are looking for an excellent meal in KC.

Other reviews say business casual. This wasnt the case on 09/12/2020 at 7pm. There were people in jeans, sneakers, hats and t-shirts sitting down eating, so apparently there isnt a dress code at all. We were way over dressed that night, and I wasnt wearing a tie or jacket. The band that was suppose to play according to the Majestics calendar wasnt there. They had one guy playing the piano downstairs. The service was mediocre as well as the food. Ive had better at Longhorns. The upside was that it was quiet and semi romantic and we could talk and hear each other without yelling. First and last time for us.

Wow. Fantastic. My previous visit here was during Valentines Day, when it was rushed, crowded, and far different than my visit during Corona Times. This time, the tables were spaced plenty far apart for social distance measures, and the waiters could really attend to our needs, all while a live jazz piano player serenaded us. Our steaks were rich, and cooked to perfection, and the pace was slow. The creme brullee was a perfect finish to a fabulous, slowbpaced dinner. Exactly what we were looking for.

We have been to The Majestic several times. We generally spend in the $250 to $300 range with drinks, entree, dessert, etc The atmosphere is awesome. The food is ok but definitely not the best steaks in town. Stock Hill is by far the best steak around. However I would still rate the food at a 4 and atmosphere at a 5. It is the service that deserves a 1 (being generous here). Would love to see the place under different management. It could be a truly awesome place!

I went there this Friday night. Made a reservation, first time. Excited to try a new place, I live a few blocks north, to have a drink a bite and enjoy some music. My man and I ordered our first 26 dollar round of drink and got an appetizer. The only thing available on the “limited menu” was 60 dollar steaks.. I’m not a steak person or some lamb.. I don’t want to eat lamb. So we decided on another round and some dessert and enjoy the music. We were then informed by our waiter (not named) we are recommended to buy a entree. Youre still getting the same 20% tip as you would on a 120$ tab even though mine was $60. Like a 25$ tip on a 60$ bill..I’m not cheap but thanks for making us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Warn ahead of time if you are required to spend over 100 dollars on entrees to reserve a table and enjoy some jazz.

While they bill themselves as a top place to grab steaks in Kansas City but Majestic missed the mark for me. The service was not all that great, the bartender acted annoyed when I ordered a drink and I had some overcooked meat as well. However, the atmosphere of this place is really neat. It is in an old building and they have preserved much of the character which was nice to see. They also have a killer bourbon selection of that is your thing and the value you get compared to other steak houses is pretty solid. I personally wont be rushing back here but I also wouldnt be adverse to giving it another shot.

Majestic is overall a wonderful experience with entertainment and service to surprise! The Majestic is the original speak easy of Kansas City and the feel is spot on to the era. Our server Zoe took care of my partner and I from start to finish and was very helpful answering any questions we had, she was awesome! We started the meal with a fantastic cheese board and drinks as starters. My partner ordered the Scottish Salmon and I got the Vegan Stuffed Potato for entrees. Both dishes were accompanied with fresh salads and two sides. I can honestly say there wasnt a single thing I didnt enjoy about the food as everything was hot, timed well, and tasted great! The spirited live jazz topped the night and filled the room with a lively atmosphere. Would definitely recommend for those passing through Kansas City for an enjoyable meal, live music, and classic Jazz!

A week in advance of my 33rd wedding anniversary, I surprised my wife with reservations I made on-line at The Majestic Restaurant and Jazz Club. In the note I indicated we would like to be seated down stairs so we could watch and listen to the Jazz band. We had been there twice before and was looking forward to our evening. Two hours before our 7:00pm reservation, I received a call from The Majestic indicating that the seating in the basement occurred at 6:00pm and 8:00pm and that my seating would be on the main floor. Unfortunately, both the 6:00pm and 8:00pm reservations were full and there was nothing they could do to accommodate. We decided to make a go of it and arrived before our 7:00pm reservation. Shortly after the Hostess checked us in, we were seated and greeted by our server. We decided on a familiar bottle of Italian red wine. After a couple of minutes, the server returned and indicated they didn’t have that bottle in stock. Not a big deal as it was not on their menu but was on their website. We understood and order a familiar bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and a cheese plater to start our meal. After several minutes, the waiter returned and indicated they did not have that particular Cabernet and offered us another, pricier option. After trying the wine and agreeing they would charge us the price of the Cabernet they did not have, we enjoyed our cheese plater and wine. Both were very good.We soon ordered our main course, filet for the wife, rib eye for me both cooked medium. The waiter highly recommended the steak soup and my wife ordered it while I ordered the salad. When they were served, the waiter told my wife they were out of the 8 oz filet and so he was going to replace it with the bone-in filet with no up-charge.After trying the “soup”, we both decided it was glorified brown gravy with a few meat chunks in it that needed salt. As the server walked by, we requested salt and pepper. After a few minutes, we realized he had forgotten our request and so we just finished our soup and salad. The server soon brought our steaks. My rib eye was cooked perfectly and was delicious. My wife’s bone-in filet was a good 2” thick and looked delicious. However, it was cooked and served at a rare temperature where the center 1” was raw while the half inch outer was cooked. Not her preferred temperature of beef. We considered returning it to be cooked more but didn’t want to wait another 20 minutes on her food while I finished mine. After we each ate about half of our steaks, we switched and I finished her filet. The rib eye was certainly better, even if the filet would have been cooked to the requested temperature. After our meal, we paid and surprising, the bill was correct after all the “substitutions”.After leaving, we both decided The Majestic didn’t meet our expectations. We feel it is overpriced and the service wasn’t that good. There are far better steak houses in town for the money. Needless to say, we will not be returning.

Hair in food, WAY over priced for terrible food, over cooked, dry food with no spice. Rude waiter when approached for hair in food. Waited 30 min in lobby for 20 guests with a reservation made two months in advance. Food poisoning x1 from the soup. Bartender was rude. We ate here 5-12-19 spent $800 and no one could finish the food it was so bad. It was my daughters graduation we made the best of it. Sad :( and they refused to let us use the downstairs even though I was not being used and completely ready and we deserved it after the waiting in the lobby. I will direct everyone away from here until we are compensated. IN addition the piano guy played no songs, he banged away on the piano like a 5yo- several of us play, we knew. Maybe we should just ordered the steak? Ambiance was great.

I ended up here after a recommendation from a friend who live and works in KC as the best steak joint in town. It has a cool, old school vibe with some history. Apparently the door in the men’s bathroom leads to tunnels that were used during prohibition. The food was good with a very knowledgeable wait staff. I tried the Wagyu strip as my first time ever having Wagyu. I am not a steak expert, and it was fine, but my tastes aren’t refined enough to say that it was much different than any other type of steak.Downstairs they have live jazz, which I wish I had stayed around to hear more of. If I come again, I would head straight for it.

I took my mom here for her birthday dinner and we had a great time. We also went all out, and the figure was high - but I still really enjoyed it.The food was all delicious - and let me say here that Im not a steak girl. What Im commenting on here is mostly the side dishes and drinks, steak is always just steak to me. That being said, we went with the 24oz Wagyu and shared. It was steak. We couldnt finish all of it. I am not 100% sure it was real wagyu, after some thought, and wouldnt recommend it.The creamed spinach side was the star of the night. Or was it the wine? The cheese plate appetizer was also phenomenal. You know what, maybe it was our server Andrew that really made the dinner stand out - whenever we needed a little hint of what to get he had our backs. Ive never had someone pick out better wine for us. Cheers to Andrew.Anyway, so the food is good. Its gotta be for the price theyre charging or else theyd be out of business. The atmosphere is also pretty comfy - we were there with live piano music and candles on the table. It for sure feels like the place you might take someone for a birthday or anniversary. The area is also pretty nice and parking is easy to find.Edit: went again and spent another nearly $200 for 2 people - the food was delicious, again mostly the side dishes and drinks. This time we sat in the basement and listened to a 3 piece jazz band the whole time and it was fabulous!

7pm reservations, Uber drops us off at the side alley. The place smells wonderful. The vibe is off the hook hopping. We are met with greeters that imo totally dig the place. Great energy. We are led downstairs where this aroma of rich steak and other treats wakes your senses up even more. The jazz trio is setting up, there is a buzz in the air, people laughing, having a wonderful time. The manager is on point, servers whizzing by but not in a bothersome way...you just know you are now part of a nightly dance they do and they do it well.We are greeted by Tobias who goes over the menu, the house favorites, his favorites and the specials. First app mentioned is bacon wrapped shrimp...had me at bacon and shrimp. We decided on the Caesar salads. Classic Caeser salad, crisp Romaine with a nice touch of anchovy in the dressing. Great salads.Lynda had the prime rib with asparagus and lobster mac and cheese. Carlton Logan, I remember you liking really rich cheesy mac and cheese...you have to try this if you havent already. Loaded and I mean chocked full of lobster. The prime rib was excellent, nice smoky outer bark with just a hint of rosemary and garlic. The au jus tastes house made. You can see little sheen of stock on top, very rich and flavorful.I had the special...oh yeah this was what KC steak is all about. American local grown Waygu ribeye, lobster tail and scallops. I LOVE great steak and scallops and who doesnt love lobster and this dish lived up to the price tag. Epic taste and tenderness. The Waygu marbling made this a steak a steak lovers dream and a nightmare to the diet but soooo worth it. Kept my side simple...load me up on more carbs with a loaded baked potato, screw the diet and lets make this day end on a good note. The trio is busting out great jazz, its like weve gone back in time 70 years. You wouldnt be surprised to see ol Pendergast or Harry Truman himself walk downstairs. The vibe just keeps buzzing along or maybe it was the 3 Manhattans each. Btw, EXCELLENT Manhattans. One of the nicest Ive had.We take our last drink upstairs, our greeter is waiting to take us up to the top floor to see the reall ly cool part of the building. You can feel the history, you can smell the cigar smoke, a private party is taking place back in the Pendergast room where he kept a place to hide out from his wife and sneak in a cigar and whiskey (according to the story told, his wife had made him give up cigars and drinking so this is where he got his fix).Had a wonderful time and Majestic is a place every steak lover should experience at least once in their life. If you are a history buff and love KC as I do, its even that much more cool. Great dinner, thanks Majestic for a wonderful evening, we loved it

We went because my husband loves steak. It was a challenge to find the parking. You have to enter from Central and either walk through Jimmy Johns drive thru or walk behind the restaurant in the alley, see the cooks and servers smoking and the dumpster. My husband said the steak was delicious and his sides the glazed carrots and creamed spinach were a nice change from the regularly offered sides. I ordered the pasta. No concerns about omitting the mushrooms. It also came with a salad and two sides. I didn’t care for the caesar salad, the dressing tasted off. I was advised it would be taken off the bill, it wasn’t. however what’s an upcharge of $4 on an$100 bill? Ialso had broccoli and Mac n cheese... I know I thought it was odd to have a side of pasta with pasta. I had it wrapped to go. Cap was our server and he was wonderful. I was upset we weren’t given the option to sit down stairs and listen to jazz. The couple next to us wasn’t given the option to sit down there either. It’s one of the reasons we tried this restaurant. Truly not my cup of tea. If you like steak give it a shot.

{2018 KC Restaurant Week Review}The Majestic was our 3rd lunch date for KCRW. So far its my favorite place weve visited! We were seated right away and we couldnt have asked for a better server. He was helpful and genuine.First Course:{House Salad} - not on the KCRW online menu but they offered it. It was simple...only carrots, tomatoes, & red onion w/ ranch, yet the ingredients were fresh which makes a huge difference!{Steak Soup} - rich and flavorful; you could tell they make it in house (I assume!?)Second Course:{Roasted Petite Filet w/ Espresso-Cocoa Crust, Whipped Bourbon Butter, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Butternut Squash} - tender & cooked perfectly (medium, finally!) The whipped bourbon butter was delicious and provided just enough moisture for an already tender steak. The mashed potatoes w/ gravy were savory and delicious; butternut squash was just okay.{Roasted Bershire Pork Loin w/ Spiced Gastrique, Apple Sauce, Roasted Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli} - applesauce & pork are always a good combo. Broccoli was seasoned so well I wish I could recreate it at home! Roasted potatoes were just okay.***We also ordered two appetizers off their regular menu:{Fried Risotto} - too cheesy inside and too fried for me; it lost the risotto effect. My husband thought they were still really good, but I only ate 1/2 of one and was done.{Shrimp Lejone} - SO good if you like horseradish

This review is from a vegetarian perspective so consider that. Most places I go to in KC have at least 1 decent veg Option and very good sides.I ordered a pasta dish as an entree and a side of Mac and cheese. The pasta entree was so bad it seemed like it was floating in vegetable broth and nothing else. The Mac and cheese was decent. The main reason for 2 stars tho is very poorly made Old Fashioned....cheap cherry and a thick slice of orange should never be part of any old fashioned.

Slightly limited cigar selection is absolutely made up for and more by the incredible skill and attentiveness of Ben the bartender. This guy knows what hes doing in the cockpit. Make sure you ask about the secret upstairs section to meet him ;).

Crazy to see it empty for dinner but we felt special being the only ones for dinner.

Great historic restaurant and bar . Gorgeous building that is over 100 years old . Once was a brothel and a speak easy . Steaks are the main event for food and very good but they also offer vegan and vegetarian entrees . The vegan pasta with housemade black bean burger is delicious. Signature cocktails that will delight everyone . The main dining real is regal and masculine . If you love live jazz music request downstairs seating and dining . The downstairs has that speakeasy feel from the 1920s . Great staff and service.

Live music good. Service and food not so good. Our waiter was dismissive and condescending. The food definitely did not reflect the price. With several places in KC for steaks this place needs to up its game.

Really cool steakhouse with a couple bars and live jazz in the basement during dinner. Stopped in on the way through town and had a delicious cut of steak. They have a great selection of wines and bourbons, and their steaks were perfectly prepared. Check it out if youre around there.

Nice restaurant that appears to be hidden in the financial district. Great food, while we listen to soft jazz.

This is truly the best steakhouse in Kansas City. Food, service, ambiance - its all world-class. Weve celebrated our last two anniversaries there and had the same phenomenal experience. Last year we dined downstairs and enjoyed the live band - you feel transported back in time to a speakeasy! This year we dined early upstairs with our infant and it was a different but equally impressive vibe. My twin filet medallions didnt even require a knife for cutting. For dessert, I had their apple pie - the best Ive ever had. Barbie was an incredible server with a wealth of knowledge on food and wine, he made us feel so at ease with bringing the baby along and gave us a top-notch experience. Cant wait to go back!

Great music in a historic venue. Dry aged streaks. Best Manhattan ever.
