I am not a fan of public movies in recent years largely because people do not know how to behave in movie theaters and I would rather watch them at home. Having said that, this theater is spacious, modern and comfortable. I had a very pleasant experience there. Its location in downtown Kalamazoo is convenient and the place is clean.
It wasnt a busy night for movie goers. With that said, the theater (#2) didnt look like anyone cleaned or picked up after the last showing. Thank goodness there were only 7 people in the theater. We just moved over a few seats that were cleaner. Still had to wipe the seats a little. Never had to do that before.
Just saw Just Mercy (great movie!) this morning at the 10:45am showing. When my wife and I got into Theatre #7, it was filthy. It clearly hadnt been cleaned overnight -- popcorn was everywhere, armrests were sticky from spilled soda, carpet hadnt been swept -- we even had to brush popcorn off of our seats before sitting down. Ive never seen a movie theatre so dirty. I went to notify the manager, Chad, who came to view the condition of the theatre. When I told him that it was unacceptable, his immediate response was You should see the condition after most movies. He offered to try and clean up, but the trailers were about to begin, so I told him not to bother. He continued to downplay my complaints, and at no time apologized or validated my concerns. He was the manager on duty, however, did absolutely nothing to address my complaint. Wont be returning to this AMC again. Horrible customer service.
I had a voucher for a free movie ticket, and chose a 3D theater. First, the ticket price was $14.49. Considering that the screen was so small, this was a bit much. Id say the screen size is the same as The Strand in Paw Paw, and their tickets are as low as $3-$6. The seats are comfortable and they do recline, however I did notice some with food and dried soda on them. Overall the price is just too high considering Kalamazoo 10 offers bigger screens for half the price.
Super expensive, lobby not very clean and the staff was sparse. They supposedly have a bar, but in the 3 times Ive been there, it was closed twice. The self-serve drink station is nice, but they dont have the popcorn flavorings featured at other local theatres. Overall a disappointing experience, especially considering how vibrant, clean, supported, and fun these same facilities were when the Alamo was there.
The place is good. But the smaller screens are a bit under managed. There was a time when they ran out of trailers but the movie didnt start until someone from the audience fetched the crew. There was another time when one of the ceiling lights was left on thru the entire movie. There was another time when one of the back seats was unplugged from the wall, so it wont recline or straighten.
My husband and I are stub members and frequent this theater often. Although overpriced, our experience is typically positive. Last night our experience was much different. The recliners did not work, the soda machine was out of a variety of drinks, and there were very loud and obnoxious customers in the theater making it difficult to enjoy the show. We typically spend at least $50 each visit and may very well change theaters due to this experience. We can get that same experience much cheaper elsewhere!
Place was not clean, restrooms were dirty, theater was not clean, reclining seats did not work, high prices for movie, popcorn was stale I could go on and on.... We miss the Alamo poor decision to change tenants. AMC will not receive any more of my money.
Very aesthetically pleasing and an open floor plan ensures for a nice and modern theatre, the prices are a little high but the service is great, every employee is very attentive and has a job to do and I can appreciate that! The popcorn is great, with Carmel or Kettle corn options available and the sodas are all self serve and customizable! All of the seats comfortably recline as well, I wouldn’t mind paying a little bit more to come back and watch another movie here!
During the Covid-19 pandemic, are you able to buy curbside hot popcorn, hotdogs, pop, nachos and candy to keep you afloat. You can take it home to watch movies.
Great seats but food is WAY overpriced! And why is the online ticketing convenience fee so ridiculously high? Doesnt it save the company money when I select, pay for and print my tickets myself?
This is a warning to anyone thinking about going to AMC: Do not leave the building after buying tickets if its in the evening. You might not be let back in and you wont get a refund. My daughter and I bought tickets and then realized we needed to run an errand before sitting down for the movie. Our errand took about a half hour. When we returned, they would not let us back into the building. The attendant said he could lose his job if he let us back in. He also wouldnt refund our tickets, telling us wed have to come back tomorrow for a refund. It was terribly shocking to be treated that way. I do want my money back so I guess I have no choice but to interrupt my busy day tomorrow to drive back there. If you choose to go to AMC, remember you might not be able to get back into the show if you leave the building.
Make sure to set up an account and go on Tuesdays.. if not its over priced. Trust me youll be glad you did!
Great to have one in Kalamazoo, but needs a lot of cleaning . Left over popcorn all over the place and some chairs don’t work
Okay yes, we all miss The Alamo, but AMC is great too. The biggest problem and the reason for four stars, is the prices. Most of the time I drove to K10 instead to save money. The comfort and quality of AMC exceeds any other theatre here but again, only if you can afford it. Very clean, floors arent sticky, reclining chairs, wonderful screens and sound.
The Establishment is clean and nice. The chair are comfortable and I feel the view is great in any angle in the theater. Easy Parking Valid if needed. Self checkout ticket is their for people if in a rush or dont want to wait in line. I havent yet used but will if needed. Lines are always quick for me. Thank you for giving me and my family a great experience.
Cant say Im very impressed with this place. Seats are nice, thats it. Food is rough, drinks are over priced. Drink choices arent great either. Prices are through the roof. The nice thing is every time we have gone, the theater was empty so we had it all to ourselves. I have watched 6 or 7 movies here since it became an AMC and there has never been 4-5 people in the theater with us.
First time visiting this place with my son and a friend. However my son loses his phone and this is the last location it was at. It wasnt found and curious to rather or not the person sitting next to him stole it while he was asleep. Place wasnt bad at all by experience, only the outcome overall is slightly disappointing.
I think the place was great and the service was awesome and fast. There chairs recline like a rocking chair but dont rock and its super comfortable. And best of all the popcorn was super good and with salt. Go there youll love it
Great movie theater. Although I miss the Alamo Drafthouse, I still like the atmosphere, the seating and quality of snacks. Even sitting in the front row is bearable since the seats reclined, I didnt feel like I strained my neck or anything.
Came here for the first time to see the new Jumanji movie. Seats are comfortable and they recline, and I was surprised how seats were available when I came here. Pricing is a bit above average. Parking isnt as much of a pain as I thought, and it was actually free.
Awesome movie experience! Very modern feeling, super clean inside and out, cheery staff with a sense of humor, and we loved the reclining seats in the theater itself. This place will be a winter staple for us.
Like the theater generally. Getting refills is a long trek and Im sad they dont serve meals. Generally friendly staff though and I love having a theater downtown.
First time back to the building since Rave have to say.. pretty quaint.. only thing I didnt like was the fact that they took the back concessions out.. which makes for a lengthy walk back to the movie. Popcorn wasnt fresh either
I am genuinely surprised by the reviews this theater has gotten. AMC in Kalamazoo, Mi does not have the environment of a movie theater. It always seems deserted with long hallways and few customers. The popcorn is not that great for the amount they charge. Other theaters in the area bring the atmosphere and exciting feeling that AMC Portage Street 10 does not. If youre looking for an overpriced and very quiet movie outing its perfect.
Saw Parasite...V-good, but...depends on how much reality you want to deal with today
Theatre 10 was filthy for the 10:30 am show today. Someone did a little cleaning while I sat there but missed an obvious box of popcorn under a seat, ticket stubs in cup holders and sticky seats. Needs a deep clean as was nasty! When I left the door handle fell off. Also noticed that the n is missing on the theatre 10 sign
Brought my two kids with me for a fun family night out. The chairs were filthy, I had to clean them myself. Restrooms were unkempt. One drink and one popcorn was $15. Why does popcorn cost more than the movie ticket itself? Its now a priviledge to go see a movie because my family of three was about $75 for a matinee.
I LOVE this theater! I really hope that someday they will be able to add an IMAX theater to this location but otherwise it’s fantastic! The parking ramp means it’s never a struggle to find a spot and with 4 hours of validated parking it’s no extra cost. It’s a short walk to the theater which is fine, ESPECIALLY since I can kick up my feet once I get to my seat since all of them are spacious power recliners! I use the AMC A-list membership so for $20 per month I can see 3 movies a week which is an incredible deal. I’m heading there later today!
The only reason I’m leaving 1 Star is because Zero stars are not allow and my review is purely base in my 2 visits and over all customer service on this place was incredible mediocre and incompetent, when the GM looks like 15 years old of age and don’t care about making sure customers are taking care, create an issue.Too many reg flags to explain all so do your self a favor an just go to celebration at least they have they stuff and employees all put together
Student ticket is still fairly pricey... Theaters are okay with comfy recliner seats. Lots of snacks options but overpriced as in most movie theaters. The membership may be a good idea, it sounds like a good deal, but I havent signed up for it.
Super comfy, not too loud, great place on Tuesdays if you are a stubs member (even the free membership) you can get some cheap movie tickets and a lot of popcorn
Clean place. Good food. Great sits for snuggling in
Its not the Alamo, thats for sure. Its a standard AMC complex without the frills. Found it comfortable, but it feels very vacant. Validated parking is a plus, especially on days when tickets are cheap.
I have generally had a positive experience at the AMC, so I wont give them one star; however, tonight I was planning to attend a film with the posted starting time of 10:30. I arrived 15 minutes later at 10:45 in order to avoid the half hour of trailers that precede every film at this theater. I had already purchased my ticket, so I didnt have to worry about paying, and the workers didnt need to worry about a register or even a credit card machine. I think having everything torn down just 15 minutes after the final showtime is a bit premature anyway, but I digress. When I arrived, the doors were locked, and one workers behind the counter, presumably cleaning, though she didnt really seem to be doing that either. She looked in my direction and then turned away with no acknowledgement. This was the first strike. At least have the decency to at least see what I was doing. Maybe I had left something in a theater; the point is she didnt know and she didnt care to know, which is awful customer service. Its not difficult to have a semblance of decency. After a couple of minutes a manager came and noticed me at the door. He just shook his head and beckoned me away. I didnt appreciate his condescending attitude, which was strike two. Normally I dont care about bad service. It bothers me but not enough to ever say something about it. However, then I showed him that I had a ticket online and he rolled his eyes and in the most lethargic manner possible trekked his way around to the doors. He opened the doors and said that they were closed and all of the ticket machines were down for the night. I explained that I already had a ticket to which he responded that it didnt matter. At this point, I likely still hadnt missed any of the actual movie, but he refused to let me in, even though it really didnt matter if I had a printed ticket or not. I had a ticket, which I had proof I had paid for. This policy is not on AMCs website, at least not in any easily accessible way, and it did not appear to be posted in any clear location from outside the building. This experience has assured that I will never return to this theater and will promptly be switching to Celebration Cinemas new Crewards VIP instead of the A-list.
Very clean, very friendly staff, but seems to be a lack of employees who understand their jobs and duties.Had employees on theyre phone at the register upon entry, she was slightly slow upon greeting meHad an employee on her phone sitting on a stool by our theater before we entered. Was more focused on her phone than the customer.Food was amazing, and phenomenal selection of soda.Seats were clean and amazing.
The seats are usually gross and I dont think they have been cleaned much. Im talking nacho cheese and other sticky spots and wrappers stuffed into all the seat corners. Sometimes the recliners arent working. I often find myself moving around the theater to find a recliner that works and isnt a gross seat. Movie selection is limited to the most popular... dont expect to see any indie films here.
Good theater - clean and very comfortable PLUS you can get a drink and take it into the movie. Concessions typical for a theater (thats what God made Five Below and cargo pockets for). Only negative is parking - not convenient.
Very comfortable reclining seats..good flick 1917 senior discount
BEST THEATRE IN TOWNSeriously the best place to see a movie in Kzoo. The seats recline. Food is sooo expensive but thats expected from theatres and airports. Something about sitting uncomfortably close to strangers makes people willing to spend ridiculous amounts of cash on food and drink.
Love to spend the weekend in here. Not crowded and the reclining seat makes us enjoying the movie. They will validate your parking pass, so it is free for 4 hours. Cant wait to watch movie with them again!
Filthy! The entire theatre, hallways, bathrooms, lobby, everything was filthy. It was not busy either in my opinion. When we left the theatre there were 4 employees lounging (literally sitting on the counters) at the guest services station. No motivation to make sure customers have an exceptional experience. Not to mention the tickets didnt even say which theatre # we were in and no employees were around to direct us. We walked around from end to end to find it. And the bathrooms, just embarrassing. The only good thing was the movie, after the 25 minutes of previews.
Moving theatre has very comfortable seats and great location. Sadly, very poor customer service. Our movie time was 9:15pm. Asked for a drink and the server for the bar area was on break and would be back in 20 mins. Went back 20 mins, and they were still not there. Came back again a little bit after the movie was playing and they closed the bar. Asked to speak to the manager about it and he sad that area is not a top priority and he can’t be 3 different locations at once. No apology for not letting us know upfront, and no offer of pop or water for the inconvenience to a customer. Very rude manager.
Great Theater, comfortable seating. Pretty good concession stand.....great bar, and parking is validated.
I went there a few weeks ago and the staff was really nice. Especially one of the employees, JoJo. He was very polite and helpful to any questions I had. He Helped me sign up for rewards and even when another customer was rude during peak times (which I’m sure there’s plenty of rude customers) he still remained very polite and continued to make sure they had the best customer service. He has great leadership skills and would do very well in management/HR one day! I hope to see the best of success with him in this company in the near future!
I dont why I never came to this theatre before, Ive been here in Kalamazoo for 8 monthes and this is the first time I come here !I didnt give the food any experience yet, but the comfortable relaxing auto controlled seats, the air conditioning, the high resolution of the movies, fantastic sound system plus the cleanliness !Its just the kind of theatre you just need to enjoy your movies at maximum experienceAlso, if you want to enjoy it, make sure to subscribe the amc a list stubsYou will make your dreams come true
It was perfect. Very clean, everyone was friendly and very comfortable seating
Seats dirty, floors unswept, and bar not up the day I was there (no drinks apparently due to a computer issue). Very sad and frustrating. I want to love our downtown theater but AMCs management is missing the mark.
Good seats and good service. But nothing can ever replace The Alamo and AMC forced them out.
We love coming here, but please clean the bathroom! The hand driers look like something was growing in them, 2 of the 3 stalls had no toilet paper and they were visibly so so dirty!
I took my grandsons to see Angry birds 2 3D today and the movie didnt start playing at show time. After letting them know, they couldnt get the movie to play in 3D. They without me even asking told me to stop at the desk after the movie and they would give me a full refund. This is what good customer service is about!!
Love the seats. The pizza was good as well
Wonderful, modern looking theatre. Its got a nice architectural design, very comfortable seating, and the service is great. A staff member volunteered to help find my girlfriends lost new iPhone without being asked and they put in extra work to help do so (they found it by taking our seating apart). As an A-list member, I love being able to go watch 3 movies a week for only $20/month. Its a great promotional package. The only thing that takes rating from a 5 star to a 4 star is that A-list member app isnt as convenient as it could be (to get your reserved ticket, I believe the theatre should be able to simply type in your name/number into the computer, but currently, you either have to swipe the card you use on the app or find your reservation confirmation code)
Nice atmosphere bathrooms are all broken
Cool spot right on the corner. I messed up which theater I THOUGHT I bought tickets for and ended up at AMC. They adjusted my show time for me and was very cool about it. Only complaint I have is that there bathrooms smelled weird (not what you think, it was coming from the vent) and that some of stalls didnt have locks. Otherwise I had great service and watched an awesome movie. Thanks AMC!
Its a good movie theater and I was very comfortable. However, the drinks are far too expensive for what you get. You can find better prices at fine dining restaurants. The tickets are a bit expensive but it is downtown and they have plenty amenities so it makes sense to me. I enjoyed my time and it is very convenient.
$12.99 for chicken tenders and not even fully sized tenders. Little fried pieces that are overcooked and only 2 big pieces, 3 if youre lucky. Celebration Cinema is so much more worth it and has cheap high quality food along with sides that come with it.
Better off going to the other movie theaters is town.
Nice theater with reclining seats, big viewing screens at the perfect location for anyone downtown Kalamazoo.
I remember to Alamo! The AMC is my go-to theatre. Big, comfy seats. Great quality theater experience. Its always quick to get in, and no one asked me if I want a 3d jumbo-tron mega dbox with that. Just let me watch the film! I love that I can get a beer here, too. Ill just always be a little saucy that they kicked out the Alamo...
Will always go back, clean and great seats.
Typical movie theater for this area. The seats recline with a footrest and there is plenty of space in front of your chairs. I sat in the back row and the railing almost blocked the screen. It was right at the bottom of the screen for me and Im average height. I wouldnt suggest the back row for kids. Besides that, the food is typical for a theater, but they serve alcohol so thats nice. This is usually where we go see movies and Id recommend it.
I do miss the old Alamo Drafthouse, but AMC is just as good. I was expecting a 12 dollar ticket for todays matinee of star wars, but was pleasantly surprised by a 6 dollar ticket. Then I went inside for concessions and was not thrilled that it costed 15 dollars for a slushie and some nachos. The nachos would have been way better if the cheese sauce was hot, but it still wasnt bad at room temperature.I think for the icees you should be able to select a size, instead of being forced to buy a 40 oz. Slushie for like 7 dollars. Also, they were out of pretzel bits which was disappointing because thats what I really wanted. Also, the seats are a little narrow for my liking. Overall good experience though.
Never got a receipt for buying tickets online. There’s a pile of popcorn in every seat. Someone had to ask them to turn the lights off 10 min into the movie, then again to turn the lights on after the credits. After bringing up the terrible experience to the manager, he agreed that we should just stick with Netflix. Couldn’t agree more.
I typically frequent this theater in Kalamazoo as it’s the closest to where I live. I was bummed when the Alamo Drafthouse closed but this place filled in a necessary void. I’m an AMC A-List member, so having a membership helps with the perks. It’s a convenient location and meets my needs.
Crew member Daryl have wonderful customer service skills and is always pleasant.
You cant beat the AMC A list, book seats on the app, no wait in line just walk in, tickets on phone to show whomever is checking, always first in line for snacks, upgrades on popcorn, the movies a week at a low cost. We started 6 mo with the A list and love it. I loved the old service of being waited on in your seat, but the new recliners make up for some of that. We go every weekend, worth the $$.
The best theatre you will go to in the Kzoo-Portage area. Service is very prompt at the front desk and tickets are sold at a reasonable price. If you like to watch movies often, getting the membership is a good option. Seats in the theater are very comfortable and you can lean back and recline with your legs up if you so choose, and you can order food to be brought to you while watching a movie so you dont miss out on the action!
Very over priced, two adults tickets were like $23, food is mediocre and way over priced. no seasoning for the popcorn that was about $8 just for a regular size.
Nice seats comfortable atmosphere but once movie was over there was no one insight! And this movie didn’t end that late ended about 11 but there was several other movies still playing! We went to the counter and started walking down all the hallways looking for someone to validate a parking ticket that we’d forgotten to get validated! And couldn’t find anyone! That’s ridiculous! What if there’d been some type of emergency! And needed to get help or call for ambulance! And there’s no employees around! This seems to be a running theme with AMC theatres I’ve been to their theatres all over the country and everytime it’s the same thing! AMC pay attention before u do have an emergency and get sued becuz no one can get a hold of any of ur employees! This could be understandable if we were talking about a late show ending at 1 am but here I’m talking about movies that are ending at 1030 and 11 o’clock. Obviously once concession closes they don’t need to be in concession area but there needs to be someone around !
I love going on Tuesdays because its only $5 .
Fully reclining seats enhance every movie watching experience
I really like this theater; it is nice and new. The seats are very comfortable and there really isnt a bad seat in the house (except the front row). I like that there is a bar there because it makes it a little more fun on date night. The reason I didnt rate it 5 stars is because the bathrooms were disgusting. And I was there for the 1:45 show so its not like they had all day to get dirty. Every seat had pee on it, gross.
Going to AMC after being used to The Alamo Drafthouse is like going to Walmart after being used to Target
Poor food quality, very poor bathroom maintenance, every time I go they forget to turn the lights off when the movie starts. Losing the Alamo to THIS is an insult.
Its nice and stuff. But the items are hella overpriced, just like most movie theaters. A bottle of water was like $5 something, for reference.
Waited 20 minutes in line & and we whwre next in line. Then we paid $31 for 2 adults and a child. Went to get some concessions and it was $14.99 for a large soda and popcorn. Added a bottled water for $4.29. Pricing here is insane, added to lackluster service, it ruined the movie before it started. I used to love this theater when it was previously the Rave, but I will never, ever, ever be back.
Not a huge fan. I thought it was going to be more than what it was. Dont think Ill be going back here.
Close to downtown. Many screens. Comfy recliners
Great theatre
Nice building, but more expensive than other theaters in town, and it didnt seem like anyone cleaned it.
Awesome experience. Wide isles, excellent soundsystem, great options for food and drinks, just an all around cool theatre. They ran out of the item I had ordered so refunded me and still gave me the equivalent amount of food. Very happy with the staff, screens, and price point.
It is expensive. The reclining seats are comfortable. The food offerings are very limited and average quality. The bar has been out of something evert time weve gone. I miss the meal service that the previous theater offered. It is fine.
Great seats, lots of options, and even better that they open and start showing movies while kids are in school so adults can have an escape from the craziness of normal life.
Great theater. Friendly staff and never crowded. I love coming here. My personal choice for theaters in the area.
Pretty disappointed. I found the theater dirty and unkept. Very unacceptable especially to be in the heart of our city.
Very clean and comfortable! Reclining seats are fantastic, plus a full bar. What more do you want?Make sure you give yourself time to find a parking spot though. Street parking is your closest option. Not usually an issue but something you wanna think about when trying to make it to your seat on time
Theyre always nice and its usually clean and comfy.Updating to add...went on a Friday night with my son (we usually do Saturday mornings) and walked followed and watched by security for at least 12-15 minutes. We were doing what everyone else was - getting concessions and getting our seats, but he was on us...sent a complaint to corporate and waiting to hear back.
Visited for the first time yesterday. Looks like someone did a nice renovation. I was really disappointed at how even though it was dead, and there were hardly any people out seeing movies, the theater itself was a mess. It was super obvious that no one wipes down the seats, there were grease marks on them and dried up pop spills. There was also spilled popcorn on my seat that I had to clean off before sitting. To pay for a night out you know, $12 for a movie, and $20 in snacks, to sit in a dirty recliner is ridiculous. I really wanted to give them a chance, but I am not sure Ill be back. I get they are a business and need to make money, but there is no excuse for the dirtiness. In addition, sitting in row G there were lights on right over us. Though I appreciate being able to see should I need to use the restroom, they were RIGHT over my head and made it hard to tell what was going on in some of the night time scenes during the movie. There were plenty of track lights on the ground/stairs, not sure these over head lights were necessary. Its really too bad, because it could be a really nice theater. The spaciousness is nice.
Nice clean theaters, very comfortable seats
Always good seats but the bar closed at 930 on a Saturday? Disappointing
Expensive. Crossroads has better seats. And M89 is the best value. I would only go back to ÀMC if it was the only place I could see a movie I really wanted to watch on the big screen.
Hands down the most comfortable seats of any movie theater Ive sat in. Cant wait to go again.
Its ok.. Beautiful place absolutely, enjoy going
Late show messy theater. Great staff
The people were so nice. 10/10 would recommend to go there!
Gotta love AMC, so comfy, just kick back and relax. Dont forget to grab yourself a drink
