This was one of my very favorite places on the entire island, probably on earth. So many beautiful and exotic trees and plants, little places to sit and meditate or soak up the beauty of it all.I highly, highly recommend a day to leisurely stroll through these magnificent gardens!

Its hard to judge it during quarantine, but it does really look like they let the place go. I have seen nicer backyards, sadly. Its not the first garden Ive been too, so I found it strange that Michigan had a better garden than an island paradise.

This place is so informational and well kept up and welcoming. You can dig as deep as you want or just relax and walk around and enjoy the feeling and the breeze and the scenery and read a book. Its definitely a must-see and must experience

Place has potential and has a lot of open space that can be planted. Walkways need repair and would liked to have seen more tropical plants with flowers for a much needed pop of colour. It wasnt really organized well as to which way to go or any sort of system as to what was where. A lot of the plants were all very similar in size and appearance. The huge Chinese Banyan tree is the main attraction for me, but no where near the size of the one in Lahaina. The cool part was the audio recorders they give out. Several but definitely not all the plants had 2 sets of 3 digit numbers on the bottom right hand corner of a sign or placard. You punch in the code and it tells you information about the plant. With some financial support and planning this could develop into something good in the future.I was pretty underwhelmed and I guess they need to charge admission just to upkeep what they currently have.

It’s a small garden, looks like a work in progress. It had a lot of Hawaiian indigenous plants worth checking out, and a Taro corner featuring various species. It has a lot of potential to be a popular tourist stop.

Not much here at all. 1/2 block of plants and small buildings. Only worth visiting when theyre having an event. Native plantings but theyre small and low to the ground. Not really much to see at all. I wouldnt bother advising you to go see this place. Not really a tourist attraction unless theres an event then its mostly just vendors and some hula and music entertainers.

I understand that it’s a non profit which makes this more understandable. However if you’re expecting something grand, don’t come here. Super small, not a ton to see and we were done in less than 45 minutes. Some of the signage was really difficult to read because it was so weathered so we weren’t sure what we were looking at. I’m not sure if we just came at a time of year when nothing really was in bloom? There were public restrooms and admission was $5 a person. The lavender fields were much more satisfying. $3 a person and it was literally a tropical, amazing smelling heaven on a shaded side of a mountain overlooking Maui. So much more than just lavender.

For the low fee of $5.00, (money WELL spent), you are given a gadget that will tell you about each type of plant within the Gardens. Some of these plants are endangered species, so the information about how and where it grew, along with the use of the plant to the Hawaiian people is really special. We wandered about at our own pace, and really enjoyed learning and seeing (and capturing these plants in pictures). I wondered about the plants for sale before we left, which one/s I could bring to California, and was told NONE. We laughed about that, but was truly sad that some of the Hawaiian flowers couldnt come back with us.

I attended the Lā Ulu 2019 Breadfruit Festival at the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens today. This is truly a local event intended to enable residents and visits alike to (re)gain a sense of traditional Hawaiian culture and customs. This free community event included food booths, breadfruit cooking demonstrations, Pacific ulu varieties for sale, Hawaiian plant sale, free cultural activities, Hawaiian music and hula!Visitors had the opportunity to attend cooking demonstrations, taste a wide variety of Ulu recipes (including hummus, curry, chips and desserts.A wide variety of not-for-profit cultural and environmental and educational organizations took advantage of the opportunity to share their respective purpose, accomplishments and vision. I found the festival to be enlightening, relaxing and fulfilling.

Really looks poorly maintained. Bushes are dry and disorganized. Some decent parts like the grassy hut, and some nice trees, but most of it is an eyesore. Dont expect many flowers at all, I feel it has to do with either native and endemic species which do not flower much or because it was Jan/Feb.Price is now 5$ per person too, definitely not worth it. I can get what they are trying to do, and it kinda feels like they are low on funding, but its not a proper tourist attraction, more of a library of plants and bushes. Id hit up the amazing enchanted gardens in kula if you want to see insanely amazing flowers and plants.

Adorable gardens with very native plants. I wish I had taken the audio tour to gain some extra knowledge on the native hawaiian fauna - but the pamphlet was still informational. Definitely a place for garden enthusiasts who love natives, but maybe not super entertaining for the general public since the signage is still lacking. Very hawaii style though. Full of love for this place

There is nothing else like Maui Nui Botanical Gardens on the island. All native plants (indigenous and endemic). I learn something new every time I go, and I go often. I am transforming my property to all native, so this is a great place to see the plants in their mature state first. You can also buy keikis to bring home and plant. Definitely worth the visit.
