Words cant describe how AMAZING this place is to see in person. It is literally breath taking! This is a MUST do if you can! Several trails to walk with estimate time to achieve so you wont miss your bus. Wear comfortable shoes and layers. At least 10-20 degrees cooler than at port/town. Several places to sit and view if you dont want to or cant walk trails. The trails are not paved! So watch your step. Place gets crowded from all the cruise boats in port. Plenty of great photo spots. There are elevators to the top of the observation building. Definitely would go again if opportunity presents itself!

We happened to be visiting when it was 15 degrees hotter in Juneau that it was in Seattle. The gift shop is typical of a National Forrest but there is some information worth having in the exhibit. We walked down to the waterfalls and the air was amazing. It felt like standing in the breeze of a well maintained A/C. The view of the glacier was stunning, but did I mention it was cold air blowing off the waterfall. Like really cold air. It was amazing. It is a must if you are in the area. Especially if you are hot.

This visitors center offers million dollar views of the Mendenhall Glacier. The informational film was great and the displays were very helpful in understanding how glaciers are formed and details about this particular glacier. If you are in Juneau, you will not regret making this one of your places to visit. Be sure and hike up to the base of the waterfalls. It is flat terrain and easy for the whole family.

Worth seeing, however you will not get anywhere near the ice. Its a long way away and a Zoom lens is recommended. Visitor center is too small to handle the crowds that July tourist season, including me, can handle.

The glacier was crowded when we were there but the views were great and there were a bunch of little trails that lead to different viewing points of the glacier and the forest surrounding it. Would return. The visitor center had tons of information about the glacier and picture of it then vs. now. Was interesting to learn about it as well as see the sights. Would recommend.

We enjoyed our time at Mendenhall Glacier. Definitely no need to take a tour. Go by yourself! Don’t pay the extra fees with a taxi or tour! We simply got a Lyft ride For about $28 from the Juneau Library. No extra fees. We spent about 3 to 4 hours there. The Nugget falls trail was very easy and did not take long at all. The waterfall at the end was beautiful the trail was not overly crowded in the afternoon. Afterwards we did a the East Glacier loop trail / Trail of time that started behind the visitor center. It was in the forest and went to a small waterfall called AJ Falls. It was a beautiful sunny day in August we enjoyed our time here. We saw a bear feeding on some salmon. The visitor center is nice to visit. Don’t forget to get your stamp in your journal if you’d like to collect those from different National Forests and National Parks!

Very informative displays on the history of Mendenhall Glacier. There are great viewpoints inside the center and on the surrounding decks. Rangers give lectures throughout the day and there are several great displays. There is a small gift shop to purchase souvenirs. To get to the center there are several flights of stairs. An elevator is available. Don’t miss this center if you visit the Glacier.

The visitor center has several well thought-out, interesting and informative dioramas explaining various aspects of the Glacier and surrounding forest life. There are also rangers that give talks. Not as spectacular as the Hubbard Glacier or the Kenai Fjords glaciers but Mendenhall Glacier is definitely worth a look see. This glacier is receding whereas the others are advancing. It has created a huge lake that lays in front of the Glacier.Additionally, there is a spectacular water fall only an easy mile hike away that is definitely worth the visit.

Awesome Visitor Center with super helpful staff. You can see the glacier right as you get to the Visitor Center, which is pretty amazing. The park rangers know a lot about the area and can offer useful suggestions. Id suggest hiking the East Glacier trail for anyone with a little bit of experience. Far less crowded than some of the other trails, and there are some spectacular views near the top.

Amazing must see place to visit. It was around a 20 minute walk from the visitor center. We took a bus from the dock into the park via a 20 minute bus ride. Once there it was a very easy flat almost 100% light gravel path to the falls from the center. The trail is very kid friendly and stroller friendly also which I wish I knew before taking my four year old.

Stunning! We visited while on a cruise. However, not as a part of a large shore excursion. This worked out very well as we were able to stay later than the large crowds. We had the place to ourselves for about 90 minutes. So we took one of the many trails into the forest and had a great time. This is absolutely gorgeous landscape, and the forest hiking trails are otherworldly. This is most definitely worth a day visit when in the area.

Really a great place to visit when in Juneau! This is also one of the stops for alot of cruise shore excursions. The glacier is not as grand as the ones youll see in glacier Bay, but its still magnificent and the scenery with the lake is so tranquil and mesmerizing. If you enjoy kayak, you can also kayak next to the glacier. The visitor center doesnt have much inside besides a small little gift shop and a few display that talks about the glacier. There is a short film presentation that goes on through the day during opening hours but you arent missing out if you dont see it.

Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls is a Gods gift nature that needed to be protected. The Mendenhall Glacier is one of the easiest to find in Alaska particularly in Juneau, AK. From downtown to the Mendenhall Glacier is about 20minutes ride by cab or van. The beauty of nature is one of the bucket list visiting Alaska. A truly magnificent view where you can enjoy day tripping and have a personal connection with nature.

Beautiful and super easy to walk thru and enjoy the wildlife, and the glacier. Had friends who ended up with a better advice to walk all the way to the waterfall which we were told would take too long, but wouldnt have. But the place is great giving many options to see plenty and take it easy or hike a bit faster for a longer bit way closer and more exciting view abs a bit of spray from the super powerful waterfall. Nature is astounding isnt She?

Take tour bus for $35- or take public bus for $2-. We chose the latter and were able to visit with Tlingit workers rather than other tourists. The Mendenhall Glacier is easier to get to from Juneau, and its a big one. However, since tourism began in 1900, the glacier has melted so much that a lake has formed in front, and visitors hike an extra mile to view it. The geology, flora, and fauna is very impressive.

Go see it while its still there! Climate change is destroying this glacier. The staff and viewing areas are really amazing. They provide telescopes and knowledge about the area. They also have videos and interactive displays. If you hike the area youll be able to see all the places the glacier used to be, and you can take really nice shots all around the area. They have live salmon spawning in the area, and other wildlife. Its very untouched by man. Very wonderful experience.

Amazing views from this visitors center and lots of education about the Mendenhall Glacier inside. You can stand out on the overlook deck and see the light and darker green tree lines. The darker green tree line representing the extent to which the glacier had most recently advanced. At that time, the visitors center would have been between 200-300-ft beneath the ice on the top of the glacier. Also some great hiking trails from the visitors center - highly recommend the short hike to Nugget Falls!

The center was great. It is a 4 only because you cannot get close to the glacier. I loved their movie, that they had 2 telescopes trained on an eagle and on mountain goats, that there were short trails that afforded great views of the glacier.
