Awesome older building. Has one room for watching movies. Interior decor/style is awesome. Makes me think of a prohibition era speak easy, with brick showing on one wall with nice wood work above the door in the theater part. Has a selection of original works by local artist for sale also. Has a small gaming area for board games or cards if you prefer. Interesting food choices on the menu, good choice if want to try going vegan. If your looking for an interesting beer to try, definitely try reheat beer!

What a gem this place is! The food was fabulous (try the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese!) along with the intimate atmosphere, local artwork, and quirky movie selections. This has become one of my new favorite spots!

Delicious food with a very exciting menu. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The theater was quality-made and the seats were comfortable. Lots of creative seating in the dining area and art for sale on the walls. Will definitely go back again!

Very friendly service I wasnt particularly into dime but I needed to charge my phone and my portable charger to customer service is very friendly and very helpful even offered me a full blooded let me stay inside while the device is charged but in future reference I for sure will be back next time well have a better look at the menu and the drinks I would recommend this place to any local person.

What a great experience! My wife and I aren’t “independent movie lovers” by any means, but the preview for the movie being shown looked interesting so we checked it out. You definitely want to buy your tickets when you first get there, they have cards at the counter that you can use to reserve your spot! Once you have your seat saved, I highly recommend stepping over to the pub for a nice eating and drinking experience. We had other dinners plans, but all the food I saw looked really, really good. It was a calm and inviting atmosphere while we were there. A place I would be willing to just go sit and hang out, even if I wasn’t watching a movie! They had board games available which adds just one more level of comfortability. Really looking forward to our next time here!

So Bookhouse Cinema is Joplins new movie theater. It has the theatre room sandwiched between an open lobby area and the Bookhouse Pub. You can lounge in the lobby, with a patio area soon opening from that area.The Pub is open before, during and after film showtimes. You can come to the pub, eat and drink from their full bar without viewing one of the films. The food is excellent! They are adding to the menu so you can always try something new! You can also get your expected concession foods in the pub and take them into the film with you.The screen and sound equipment is great quality, and the films shown are not ones you can see on the big screen close to Joplin. We no longer have to take a road trip to see a great film and have good food, we can watch in our home town!The staff was so friendly, they are happy to be there and can give recommendations on what to try at the pub or which film you may want to view. So happy to have this addition to Joplin!

After eye-balling the incredible photos of menu choices over the past few months, three close friends and I decided to make the 166-mile trip to dine at Bookhouse Cinema. Everything on the menu made me want to try it, but I settled on the Pulled Pork Tacos with Fruit Salsa with the chips and salsa. The pulled pork by itself was smoky and full of flavor. The fruit salsa was fresh and sweet with a good balance of spicy salsa. Contained in a tender, flavorful taco shell with the perfect weight to hold it all together – it was absolutely delicious. I tasted each flavor while at the same time they all worked together to make one delicious meal. The chips were crispy and fresh, the side of salsa was just the right amount of spice. The staff was friendly, inviting, and attentive. The restaurant and the facilities were very clean. By the end of the meal we were planning our next trip. Joplin, you are very fortunate to have such a nice place to enjoy.

Always a warm, inviting atmosphere where friends can come talk, play games, and hangout before or after the show. The food is always good, and you cant go wrong with any of the sides.

OMG! My first time there. The food is excellent! Great ambiance and I highly recommend the grilled cheese with the caramelized apples! I met Holly, one of the owners she and her helpers are fantastic! I well return many more times!

It was quaint, and the cashier was very nice and helpful with the menu. We did not have time to watch a movie but my brother in law is a local and he will take me back. I live for the art on the walls that you can purchase as well.

A place of enjoyment and gathering with friendly, family like atmosphere. Great, unusual eats...and a cool movie theatre. I recommend for a date or if entertaining out of town guest. But anyway a nice fun place.

Love the vegan nachos and chocolate chip cookies! Our only negative is that they can only take cash tips. They dont have a way to charge it to a card. We wanted to tip but didnt have cash.

This was a clean friendly place. It was my first visit and I enjoyed it a great deal. We went for a friends birthday and the waitress had an amazing singing voice. Menu has vegan options as well as meat options. Facility has a cinema and board game nights we were told.

Since it opened almost a year ago, Bookhouse has become my favorite spot in Joplin to spend all my extra time and money! The films and special showings are great, and the food and drinks are incredible. (I have dietary restrictions and they are very accommodating!) My favorite is the pulled pork grilled cheese on gluten free bread. Highly recommend for a date night, lunch spot, or pub hang with friends :)

The atmosphere is great. The movie theater is placed in between a west theater entrance and an east restaurant. You can enter the theater from both areas. The food was great and you can eat in the movie theater or before in the cozy seating area. The movie we saw was odd but the previews for upcoming attractions have potential. Nothing else like it in Joplin and it is worth checking out!

Didnt have dinner or drinks. Just went for the RKO Floorshow. It was pretty cool but kind of disorganized. Seemed like they sold more tickets than they had seats, some were reserved but pretty much no one was being told so.

I cannot brag highly enough about our experience at Bookhouse Cinema.I went with my nine year old to see The Goonies, knowing it was a smaller venue and excited about attending here the first time. I was expecting a screen like what people put up in their back yards to show movies, but it was much larger than that. The sound was incredible. It was the whole big screen experience in a smaller room.We got there early as advised on the website to get something to eat. I got a sandwich while my daughter chose regular movie snacks of popcorn and candy. I have food allergies, and they are extremely helpful in working with you to help you decide great options for your meal.I loved the art everywhere and the humorous signs of instructions for the bathroom in case you found it in a messy state.There are tables and chairs and games aplenty to keep you and your crew busy and having fun in this enjoyable venue. I would have hung out here all the time in my college days. Its very family friendly as well. I want to come back on a date night with my husband.P. S. I have tried several kinds of vegan cookies, many of which are sad, tasteless lumps of sand. However, the vegan chocolate chip cookies I had here were flavorful, melty, and delicious!

Great place to eat and catch a old vintage style show . Creative and colorful meat and sides and vegan menu items as well . I had the pulled pork and caramelized Apple grilled cheese and side fresh fried sweet potato slices . I forgot take picture till I ate over half but well worth every cent good value

Where to start? A breathe of fresh air in Joplin!Great atmosphere from the moment you walk in, very relaxed and casual, and the smells from the kitchen are almost godly! Their food is freshly cooked and not your average bar food for around the same price, you will leave happy and fulfilled. Lamb burgers and fresh made potato chips are a classic. Cheese board is to die for!The movie selection is intriguing. Mostly cult classics and movies that fly under the usual radar. Great screen and sound quality for a decent price point per ticket.Oh and the liquor selection is good, personally enjoy a good Stella, even better on tap!I would 10/10 recommend any day!

Ran by a family for over a year now.Food wise its always delicious and from scratch, they currently have an apple cider thats got a good flavor.For the theater portion its a lovely small room with plenty of screen to see from any seat. Be sure to find your seat before the show starts as a courtesy to others, they close the doors for a few previews then show what film(s) theyre showing.Lovely atmosphere and staff. Never a bad idea when it comes to movies.

Small plates but decent food

This cinema is a quaint spot that offers many film screenings, game nights, Rocky Horror Picture Show nights, and more. I believe that they also have days to allow people to view local art. There is a very nice bar that also serves food. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming.I loved the fact that while there are two restrooms labled Men and Women, there is a sign outside stating something to the effect that although we may have different plumbing, these restrooms do not. Go into the one you feel most comfortable in.

What a lovely addition to Joplin! While the theater itself is just so adorable and fun, the thing I was blown away by is how incredibly good the menu is! I feel like this is going to be a new date night staple for us. Doesnt seem to show wider release films, so be aware of that going in, but Im always down to discover something new. Im really picky about sound quality and the theater sounded fantastic as well. My friends and I had a great time and well definitely be back.

Relaxed atmosphere, delicious tacos, when they have them the beet chips are a must get, I cant remember the name of it but the pistachio and goat cheese wrapped grapes are fantastic, it sounds like an odd combination but the sweet grape and salty cheese + nuts works well together.They have a good selection of beverages both plain and alcoholic. Staff is friendly, owners were on hand and attentive to guests needs.They show less mainstream movies that are enjoyable but dont get the screen time they deserve from big chains.

A great place to go for meeting like-minded pretentious weaklings, where you can pretend to be cultured and order gluten free although you do not have celiac disease. Ask your server for the complimentary Cry Closet.

Wonderful, great Art house Awarded Films and great new feel for spices at Aoili and Veggie burgers. Worth the 1.5 hr drive for me and well informed locals, if guess, for a Sunday mid day crowd.

We love the atmosphere at Bookhouse. It’s an awesome blend of family friendly pub and art house movie theater.The food is fresh and delicious (lots of vegetarian and vegan choices as well as items for meat eaters). Current favorites are the vege sliders, battered cauliflower, and (shareable) cheese plate.The featured cocktails are always fun, usually tying in with a current movie playing (I had no idea how delicious a Yellow Submarine is, but it’s my new favorite!).There are a selection of board games available to use while you’re there, or you can bring your own (there are regular board game meet ups happening here!)All in all, a winner!
