The history of all things that went on back in the day was great to know what happen Iron Woks sit . Its cool to know all those things about joliet
The Joliet Iron Works Historic Site was a great place to check out whether you like nature or history. It was very interesting seeing the sites where all the buildings once stood and reading the information signs set up along the trail.
It a great place to have close to find out history and a nice short walk and long one great for bike riders
Interesting to see historically significant ruins so close to home.
Nice little piece of history, its really neat to see and the sidewalk time line is pretty cool and educational.
Great place to walk and think in peace.
While the fall setting might be a distraction for some, there was so much to see. Prarie grasses and native grasslands abounding. Foundry remains with walkways and placards describing foundry times made the walk informative to the history buffs and fun with the finely graveled path. Route markers abounded on the clearly marked trails.Bike trails looked very inviting and well-maintained. Most of the foundry trip highlights were the bricked smelting type areas that remained from the past . The rusted landscaped buildings were fenced off ( probable because of the spray paint afficianados who should be,,,, ) because of all the spray cans tossed on the sides of the rail tracks. The rusted landscapes make for interesting backdrops for the photographer. A beautifully maintained grass on the sidewalk path with natural foliage alongside made for a burr free walk.I liked the placards and the wide path for walking . There are also portapots at the beginning of the walkways.
Neat place to walk a paved path. Cool history along the way.
Interesting history. Walk among the ruins.
Free to visit. Clean & well-maintained. Plenty of parking, bathroom, drinking fountain, covered picnic tables.
Out of the way place. To have an outdoor gathering
Historic and very cool outdoor hike
Great Scenic Area to explore.
Great place to walk and take mind of things, plus its a great scenery it looks scary but you will be fine if you take a friend so you feel save
You should not think that visiting an abandoned ruin of Joliet Iron work would be so interesting. It is sure worth visit as you will learn a lot just by walking on the path with all the information boards. You will see many kind of birds while youre walking on this area. Its a nice trail and at some areas you will learn about the year of all invention on the path where you walk on. Free of charge.
Very relaxing walk.
Very well kept trail. Needs additional trash containers along the path to maintain its condition.
It has nice size outdoor bathroom. A much paved parking lot and paved trail. I Recommend it.
Nice, calm relaxing 1 mile walk. Also has a bike trail If one likes
A hidden gem. Solitude. Natural walking trail. Peaceful.
Clean, interesting and large
Its alright. Quiet place. A little ghetto, lots of graffiti. I would take pepper spray if I was going alone.
Good historical place. Just wish they put up more information about the site and pictures showing what the site looked like back in its hey day
It was very educational. The paths are great
I like old abandoned places so this place is a hit for me. I wish there was more structures available and the no walking off the trail signs are a little obnoxious.
Amazing place to explore had lots of fun and great place to take pictures
A will describd, interesting piece of United States history.
A very odd stroll through peoples world.
Cool sights.... Homeless hangout.
Great place for a walk, plus a bit of history with a self-guided tour (informational signs posted throughout). Also close to the historical I & M Canal. Near the parking lot is a shelter with picnic tables. Its worth a visit.
Lots of cool ruins for pictures you are supposed to stay off them but, there is nothing stopping you.
Excellent fun place. We had the entire park to ourselves, which made exploring the ruins of this piece of history even more fun. Really great educational plaques made it cool to have our own self-guided tour. Not a great place for little little kids, as there were temptations at each turn to wander off the path in to some fairly rough broken concrete areas. Based on the occasional profusion of empties and cigarette butts, I would not recommend going after dark.
There definitely is a lot of history in Joliet and I dont know if everyones familiar with this but The Blues Brothers movie was made in 1978 films right by the Joliet prison the old one
The park sits on 52 acres of the Joliet iron works. You can walk the paths and see the ruins.
Really neat place to explore some local history. The remnants of all the old buildings are still there and theres a bunch of placards with some cool facts. Also is a great place to take photographs, especially if youre looking for an abandoned/desolate feel. It is almost in the middle of downtown Joliet so theres plenty of places to stop and eat or get a drink nearby.
I just stumbled across this taking a bike ride along the canal path with my family on our weekly exploratory bike ride. Last week we headed towards Lemont along the Canal path, this week we found this place! What a cool place to see. My wife and I absolutely love history and we are trying to get our 5 year old into it also. He dug it big time. He thought it was so cool to see all the old materials and where the big ovens used to be. I only regret not bringing my camera on the bike ride that day! I am a photographer so expect some good photos to be added to this review at some point!
Who would have thought I would have enjoyed seeing ruins and historical places where buildings used to be this was a delight a very pleasant surprise
Awesome historical site to explore, climb, and do some parkour. Will go again!
Awesome piece of history, very informative signs,
I have been wanting to go explore this place for a few years now. It was not as exciting as I hoped. There are lots of signs telling you not to explore the ruins. Youre supposed to only view them from the sidewalk but no one listens. The good thing about this place is that its not covered in graffiti. There are well posted signs along the way to scribing what each section was. If you are in the area and have some time to waste or want to have a quick walk it is worth it. But otherwise, its not worth the drive.
Beautiful grounds but in the middle of nowhere. If I were a woman I wouldnt go alone. No one will here you scream.
Historic, but can have dangerous people lurking
Awesome place to come for a quick walk around. There are a few bike paths so look out, but otherwise it is a super cool place to take photos and think about history!
Loved it
Great area to rest in my car but noisy because is close to the rails train
Beautiful shrine that offers to show history of our heritage (blue collar). Truely feels like home.
Good service. Not to much atmosphere. Pretty good food.

Went for a photoshoot. Its a beautiful location, but a little on the dangerous side, with uneven ground, high places to fall from and bits of metal all over.
Great spot to walk, walk your dog, or take pictures of beautiful women.

They need to rebuild some of the ruins. Most of it is rubble and not very enjoyable or interesting to look at.
