My son and I were returning home from a long plains states road trip and discovered this when we were originally just going to stop for a photo op with the world’s largest Buffalo.Frontier Village is FREE and is set up like an old western town. They have a bar, dentist office, jail, general store etc. They had fun picture opportunities through out. My son said it looked like you could have a showdown in the middle of town. They have a wonderful moderately priced gift shop (the most inexpensive souvenirs I had seen in 13 states). You can hand feed buffalo and a horse and I believe that had some food available but we did not check it out.So give yourself an hour or more and check this village out when you’re getting your Buffalo pic.

We enjoy bringing our out-of-town guests to Jamestown and the Worlds Largest Buffalo sculpture. The setting is nice, and this LARGE sculpture makes for a fun conversation not just before and during the visit, but long afterwards too. The placement of the buffalo on the hill also allows for a nice photo opportunity of the James River Valley, so typical of the Great Northern Plains. Also, if you are Louis L’Amour fan the actual address is on Louis L’Amour Lane and just down the street you can visit a small museum dedicated to him. (He spent some of his boyhood in Jamestown.)

I mean it’s big but it could be bigger. I know that’s a bizarre complaint for a free giant statute erected in the 50s but here we are. It’s free, and the nearby frontier village is cute for a photo and a stroll too. Limited parking and no water or trash cans if you’re looking a van lifer.

As far as these bizarre roadside attractions go, this one is a nice place to stop and stretch on the long drive through ND. The historical site is pretty run down but the people who are trying to keep the area history alive seem genuinely nice with a passion for what they are doing. The buffalo is as large and ridiculous as one would hope and worth the short walk up to get the photo to prove to your friends that you did, indeed stop there and get a picture in front of that weird thing.

The giant buffalo is very cool and very big! It was a perfect place to stop for a picnic lunch and explore the little frontier town. The coolest thing though had to be the herd of buffalo. There was even a white buffalo among them and they were so fun to watch. I would definitely recommend this stop to anyone traveling through the area!

One of the great roadside attractions in the United States, you will be pulling off of Interstate 94 for reasons you dont fully understand, driving through Jamestown, North Dakota, a town you had no intention of visiting, and finding loads of serendipitous curiosities, all because you saw this giant buffalo from the highway. The statute is impressive in its own right, but it also offers phenomenal views, and the town seems to work hard maintaining the surrounding area.

The largest buffalo was pretty neat for a campy roadside attraction, the village was overall pretty good, better than expected with lots of history and mostly outdoors. The museum was excellent and they had good Covid Safety precautions (when guests were following them). Theres a herd of buffalo to see here too, and some small shops (we didnt use any of them bc of Covid). It was a pretty fun 2 hours.

This is a fun side of the highway pitstop. We were actually staying in town for the night and saw a brochure which is how we found out about it.Theres a whole little village setup with stores and museums. It seemed like it would have been cool, but we were there early in the morning and nothing was open yet.We just drove down to the end, parked, and checked out the statue. Its a huge statue so we obviously got some pictures standing under it.There are a couple parts that are kind of falling off, but its pretty well maintained.I wouldnt go out of the way to come see this, but if youre driving by, its worth stopping at.

Its a giant statue of a buffalo, its exactly what youre expecting. Theres a nice tourist trap old west town area around it that you can buy knick-knacks, refreshments and stretch your legs. Its a nice stop if youre driving from Fargo to Bismarck (or vice versa), but probably not worth heading out of your way for.

Lots of walking, old West Town with active stores (clothing, merchandise, snacks and cold drinks) and museum type preserved towns in the way. The largest buffalo is a huge statue and there are live bison in the grounds including some albino ones. Everything is bison themed. Not sure why its called a buffalo since they really are bison. A pleasant place to spend an hour or so.

Review №54

Its worth seeing, but it is badly in need of some repairs. The buildings around the area have some cool historic items and information, so you should take a little time to spend in those. There are a couple of shops that mostly have some cool art, craft, or vintage items. The museum nearby seemed rather expensive and small, so we didnt tour that. We didnt see any of the live herd during our stop, but that was probably just timing. We did give some feed from the vending machine to the goats you can watch from a balcony.

Reasonable place to take the kids for 1-2 hrs., catch up on ND history right in the ️ of ND.
