This is a gem in the state of Rhode Island!! I went cliff jumping here with a friend and there is cliffs about 20 feet that you can jump from. There is a lot of paths leading to cliffs and vistas, but there is LOTS of poison ivy and needless to say I got it! There is enough parking for maybe 30 vehicles at one area but if you drive to the other parking lot there is a great deal more. There is old forts to explore but they are mainly covered in graffiti and take away from the uniqueness of the structures. There were some people fishing and also I found a small rocky beach if you wanted to swim. Im from Massachusetts and I would say this is my favorite place in Rhode Island, although I have yet to visit Block Island. Even though theres was a bit of people, you can find space here to get alone and enjoy the fresh sea air.

Though completely painted with graffiti, the fort is a cool place to visit if youre in the area. There are numerous breaks in the low fencing surrounding the fort so accessing the ruins is simple. Just watch your step and mind the holes and ledges... this was fenced off for a reason. Climb to the top or follow the trails around the backside to find a beautiful rock outcrop over the ocean. Its a nice spot to watch the sunset or sunrise as theres mostly water to the east(ish) and west(ish). Theres also a nice view of the Pell/Newport bridge, which looks cool in the twilight when the lights first kick on but its still light enough to see the lines of the bridge...bring a zoom lens. Parking is fairly limited, but it wasnt too busy when we visited on a Friday evening. Theres a few other nice spots not far away if the lot is full here (Beavertail and Brenton both also provide wonderful sunset views).

It has some nice views, but not so well maintained. There is a fortress is the park and it’s all covered in graffiti and trash. Around the fortress there is a small path, not very secure one, that leads to the seaside. All the rocks are covered in graffiti as well. Not the most appealing park.

Really Liked the Setting. Some Really Terrific Views. However, This Park Needs a LOT of Love. Its the States Red-Headed Step-Child. Its Pretty Run-Down. Certainly, NOT Maintained Like Beavertail, Fort Adams or Colt State Park Which Are Pristine. Ugly, Hideous Concrete Blocks Even Pre-Date 50 Year Old Jersey Barriers. This Park Could Really Use Some SERIOUS TLC. Compared to Other Parks...The Way Its Maintained IS an Embarrassment.Such a Gorgeous Setting. Its Like Wasted Talent.

This could be a great place to visit. Unfortunately, people use it as a trashcan. This is unfortunate and sad. This is why we cant have nice things. If people would treat the outdoors with respect and dignity this world would be a great place. If you change your childs diaper dont leave the trash for the next guy. Take it back with you. Also, bring your fishing trash home with you. This is crazy. I would like to visit again and if I do, I will bring gloves and a trash bag and clean it up!

Amazing place to visit. Many trails leading to different cliff overlooks of the ocean.Certain cliffs you can jump off of into the water (scout the water for rocks first!)Incredible old war bunkers covered in some decent graffiti. There are bunkers in multiple locations so scout out them all!Pretty awesome that it was 100 degrees F out and we walked into a wide open bunker that felt like 68 degrees F. My friend said that was from the spirits in there.

This is a place for a quick stop and explore if you are around the area. It is not a place to travel too just to see. But again if you are around, it worth a quick visit. The fort is old and abandoned, and vandalized. I have been there in summer and winter. They look so different. Was cool to see the difference.

Fort Wetherill is a super cool historical spot on Rhode Island’s island, known as Jamestown. This fort, which is now a state park & tourist stop, straddles the perimeter of Jamestown coastline nestled in the Narragansett bay. I would challenge folks on wether if they have seen pure beauty, if they have yet to make there way to the cliffs of Fort Wetherill.Stop by & have a familyPicnic on the grass or negotiate the weathered fort. Either way, make your way, very carefully, to the 50 to 70’ cliffs with picturesque New England shoreline views. One would would only need to watch the armature & professional artists who make the journey daily to realize the natural beauty. The fine print here would inform adventurers that they should leave small children behind & adorn long pants & appropriate footwear if they plan to investigate the paths, fort, & cliffs. I offer this as a mere suggestion, but you don’t have to take my word for it.Yours truly,Scotty

Beautiful place, but the town of Jamestown gave me a parking ticket for parking on the side of the road because the diving parking lot was closed. The NO PARKING signs are angled 180 degrees from the road, not like a STOP sign which is 90 degrees. Would give 5 stars if the signage gets fixed. $25 Fine!!!

This is one of our favorite places to visit. Im personally a fan of all the old historic battery structures, even with all the graffiti. I actually think it adds a lot of personality to them. The walk is relaxing, and sights from the coastline are breathtaking. The pictures are of the second battery, the first is quite a bit larger, and my wife and I were actually able to walk on and through it.

Very cool abandoned fort. This is not a well-maintained historical site. There arent any historical or point of interest signs explaining the history of the fort, but you can access a fair amount using the sturdy iron ladders that are still in place. The barracks and fort itself are WWII era and are constructed of concrete. Compared to the Newport side, this feels very quiet and secluded. Right at the fort there is a little stone beach cove where we watched spearfishermen. There are great, quiet views of the water and nearby cliffs. Absolutely beautiful.

This was one of the first places I ever visited in Rhode Island, and I wasnt disappointed. Its a nice walk and it has beautiful views. For the adventurous, there are paths through the woods that lead right down to the water. Its awesome when you get the opportuity to see one of the street artists while they paint. This one of my favorite places of all time.

Great Rhode Island Park in Jamestown! There is so much history related to this location dating back to the native Americans to the Navy’s use of the location during WWII. It’s beautiful and close to the eastern passage of the Narraganset. I very appreciate the park and recommend this place to everyone.

Want to see nature and history vandalized? Visit Fort Wetherill. The only reasons Im not rating one star (1) a genuine effort is made in landscaping (2) the public restroom was surprisingly tidy (3) the locals seems to have reclaimed the outer areas for a dog park. If you visit Id suggest driving to the upper most parking lot and walking the coastline. The rest isnt worth viewing.

I love this place. Wish I had more pictures from my camera but it is what it is. I got a glimpse of a nice cruise ship of the top of one of the bunkers near boat launch side of the park. Lots of history here and plenty to look at. Unfortunately a lot of graffiti but some are actually really good. I love history and walking through the fort is a blessing as it was blocked off by metal doors. But thanks to vandalism the majority of the fort is accessible. I recommend flashlights and a hoodie when walking through as random ditches and obstrustions are throughout the place. Also if u find a trail I recommend taking it as well as it will more than likely lead you to the water with some views as well. Enjoy.

Fun and easy adventure though this abandoned fort. Some scary dark tunnels to travel through or just check out the graffiti done by some talented artists. WARNING: Not all the graffiti is art, some is just immature drivel. Read up on the history before you get there, it all makes much more sense and gives you a better idea why this place exists.Plenty of great places to eat around here too, check out Slice of Heaven for lunch outside.

Beautiful place! Love exploring the old fort to see all the unique graffiti, some of which is stunningly beautiful, and all of which I think ought to be preserved for future archeologists to see how my generation speaks and acts, haha. The fort area is poorly maintained so its best to go in spring or fall if you wanna explore the trails; it is definitely Tick City there. Amazing views of the Bay, and can see Newport Mansions from the cliffs.
