I love this park - it is our go to spot in Jackson for RV camping. The sites are wooded, around a small but beautiful lake with lots of wildlife. Theres no septic at the sites, so plan to use the dump station on the way out or bring a tow tank.
Very nice camping area, in the middle of Jackson Ms. Very clean restrooms. Wonderful lake views all around. On our trip we saw two alligators away from the populated areas. Fantastic playground for the children. We stayed one night in a tent. We rented a pad with water and electricity. 23 bucks for the night. Highly suggest this place. We will be back.
We really enjoy going here with our kiddos. There is a little playground, clean bathrooms, and a great nature trail that they are doing matinance on. Once its done, the trail will be really nice! Only complaint is that there are some things that need fixed/updated.
Nice lake views from all sites on right side of the campground. It used to have double sites that they have made singles, so sites are large. It does have a coin operated laundry that was a nice surprise for us! The road into the park is long and flat so it offered good exercise for my dog with my bicycle (walky dog).
Great spot to go enjoy nature. There are lots of park benches, bathrooms, and plenty to see. Nice short easy nature walk
Nice view of the lake. Very open. Taking off a star because the womens bathroom, while mostly nice, doesnt appear to be maintained very well. One toilet has been out of order for at least a week, the door to the second toilet was mounted incorrectly and prevents the door from closing and locking, and the last toilet is mounted so close to the side wall that one has to turn sideways and only has a curtain rather than a door. The two showers work fine; however, one has no changing area. It looks as though they took down the curtain at some point and never replaced it. Other than the bathroom, this is a great campground.
Needs some upgrades Pad are to short and the water was intermittent. Quiet park with great scenery. Staff is extremely helpful annd friendly
I have camped here a couple of times and it is pleasantly clean and fun, even though you are in the middle of Jackson!
Easy access from Interstate 55; has campsite and day use areas; different pavilion areas complete with electricuty; lake available for fishing really nice park
The walking trails are very peaceful and scenic. But when its been raining, most parts of the trails are uncrossable.
Beautiful park. Karl was super helpful and made our stay nice. If the great state of Mississippi reads comments: please fund this park better! Its really a gem. Will return!
I visited science museum and it was great!
Pretty nice little State Park that is basically located within Jackson. There is only one trail here and it was very difficult to find and not very well maintained. There were a lot of people fishing so it must be a good place for that. There were also some cool cypress swamps.
Good place for family time. If you want to park your car, you need to pay 4$. Nice place for fishing.
This is one of if not the best park in Jackson,Ms. It is clean & maintained very well. Besides being able to play with my kid on everything and Im 6,4 btw, you can also go to the Natural Science Museum plus they have an outdoor trail which is amazing. Annnnd they have the Kids Science Museum which is aimed at younger kids with way more hands on activities.ITS SO MUCH FUN PERIOD!!!!!!!
Friendly staff, beautiful location. A lot of litter, though.
Excellent park. Worth the 4 dollar day use, even for one hour. Great playground and a pretty nature trail.
Traveling to Texas, and found this park a convenient location in Jackson MS. Pulled up to the gate to check in a few minutes after 5. No way to get. Finally, someone else leaving the park explained that we had to go online and pay and they would email the gate code. Very confusing to say the least. Once we managed to get into the park, we got our campsite and it was a mud hole. The lake looks like a mud hole too. But, on the bright side, were heading to the outlet mall in Jackson to shop. And we hear that there are some really good places to eat nearby. Maybe it will get better!
I wanted to stay camping there so bad... the camping spots are mostly waterfront. It was nice.
Great state park with lakes and trails.
Very pretty here. You would have no idea that you are in the middle of the city. Best and close get aeay
Did not see alot of wildlife. There are plenty of squirrels.
Nice to kill sometime and take the dog. Nature trails are not pet friendly
This a Beautiful park with nice quiet little campground.
Beautiful place to walk and look at our gorgeous forests and rivers. Its not too hard of a walk, and the paths are pretty decently taken care of, even if theyre not long. You wont regret coming to see it!
A place to get away from the city without having to drive for hrs is a plus in my book anytime...and from what I understand it was the beginning of what Jackson is today...great scenery and my lil guy had plenty of stuff to sniff out...was wondering why the trails dont loop or join up some how and the picnic area could sure use some work ...fine looking play area and the community shelters look like fun with a large gathering
Nice state park in the middle of city!
Great place to reflect and enjoy the quiet.
Amazing park to camp. I personally stayed on my way to vegas from miami. I arrived at around 8 am on a monday. They were very quick and polite to set me up with a tent site. The price was decent. This park id beautiful it has hiking trails and great views of the lake. I felt very safe the whole night. Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Highly recommend.
We love it!! Best place ever--they just reopened after flooding so its a little muddy, but cheap laundry, hot water showers, great fishing, good tv & cell coverage- beautiful place right here in Jackson
Quiet place. I love it
Great trail and lots of wildlife to see, sometimes
$4 for a car load of people to get into the park but was worth it for the nice playground for the kids, and very well kept picnic area and restrooms. There was even a security guard on duty and visible.
The workers where professionals it was a wonderful & informative experience
Excellent park for the kiddos. I had my son second birthday there. It make you feel safe with the co pay and security guards. Its a Big hugs park to explore ful day of play time.
Its a great place to take younger kids. My niece and nephews love it. My only complaint is that every time we visit, there seems to be signs on exhibits that are in need of repairs or needs attention of some kind. The tickets are very affordable and great for groups.
Very nice place to walk in shade around thr lake and play on the small playground. Would be nice if there were more biking trails as we have small kids and I didnt really want them on the roads, even with 15mph speed limit. Nice boat ramps to Pearl River. $4 entrance with vehicle. $.50 each person if on foot or bike. Can park at the ballpark next door. Quiet in general and a fair number of folks using the pavilions and camping facilities but not overcrowded on a Saturday. Its great to have this place right in Jackson. They also have trails to the museum area which may allow walking access to the bigger playground and picnic areas there. Will check it out next time. Thanks!
Nice place! Recent heavy rains cut down on the number of sites.
Excellent place to fish or just chill with friends and family
Great quiet place. Clean grounds. Lovely scenery the electric works fine the water works fine great leveled spots has picnic table and Grill knot on top of each other when youre camping the only negative was in the womans bathroom theres two showers but the one shower has no knob and has a hole in the floor so it is not used so you only have one working shower the plus side is the bathroom was clean and the showers were hot. I would go again.
Beautiful and Quiet close to everything in Jackson
Beautiful Nature inside the beautiful City of Jackson Mississippi. Great camping at lake shore, highly recommended. Suggestion for administrators: Put two or three large 55 gallon lined drums by the bathhouse and midway between the campers. Thanks Armando and Michi
One of my favorite places to fish and kayak! So many amenities with natural beauty. My favorite place in Jackson
I just visited to hike and look at birds, and it was amazing. Great wildlife right within reach of the city. The trail system connects to the Natural History museum and the Pearl River. Really beautiful lakes, sloughs, bayous, etc. Fantastic birding location!
Went the last hour before close. Super clean and we had a blast. Great roadtrip stop.
Great local State Park, my son and I took 2 of his sons to fish. Grounds are well maintained, very inexpensive way to have a great day outdoors.
Great RELAXING park for the whole family.
It was quite nice! We were 6 people tenting at the primitive area and we were free to put up our tents everywhere we liked in that area. We found a really nice big spot close to the lake, even though we were told that there was some pretty big Alligators living there, they have never had a incident with alligator VS human on land. There was a big fire pit and lots of branches lying around, that we were more than welcome to use.But the down side to this campground has to be, that the toilets / washrooms are located all the way over at the rv camping, so there was a long way for everyone needing to go to the bathroom, especially in the middle of the night.
Greatest place to spend your family time! Get there early! The Mississippi Childerns Museum (MCM) is a great place for fun learning. There are four differant museums in all and can be visited for $10.00
Love, love, love this beautiful park.If youre in Jackson, MS its a great place to unwind.
Cozy getaway lots of shade clean restroom
Stayed here in the campground one night. The staff was rude and inconsiderate. Also on site 20 a person lives there in a camper that looks like something from a horror film. It also smell like straight sewage and there is a little puppy that stays chained up there. Why are people allowed to live in a state park like that. On top of everything else this park offers no sewer at the site so how can one live here? Mississippi clean this campground and stop allowing long term stays. The bathhouse needs alot of help and the staff needs some customer service classes.
Beautiful place to enjoy with family
Wonderful state park for all ages, I wish I had more time here. Had a wonderful short hike into the swamplands....
For you nature freaks or people looking for a breath of fresh air look no further this park is really beautiful and a sight to behold especially the ponds and small lakes it looks surreal you wouldnt think its located in Jackson also for you out of staters they have a RV section so you can stay there the night or two also it is very quiet and peaceful a good place to get a run in in the city one of the must go if youre stopping by also most necessary is off in the spring and mandatory in the summer you will be eaten alive out there overall awesome place to go to
Good place for a walk. Challenge: Can you make it all the way to the Natural Science Museum and back?
ME AND MY HUSBAND HAD A WONDERFUL TIME CAMPING !IT WAS SO PEACEFUL AND RELAXING !BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO VISIT FOR AN ENJOYABLE VACATION !
Great place, great staff.
Great views and quiet sites. Full hook ups minus sewer. But they do have a station on the way out. If you can, get a site on the water. Beautiful!
The campground was nice and quiet with good space between the campsites. The water spigot at our site would not shut off completely vand a steady stream of water left a muddy mess The comfort station needed some maintenance help. No sewer hook ups for RVs. There is a dump station and a trash dumpster near the entrance. Backing into a campsite in the dark was difficult, would have been easier with more lights
My wife and I took our 2 year old, weve been a few times before but this was different. The first few times we went the shear joy and excitement my son had, rapidly bouncing from place to place was enough to make anyone dizzy. This time he took the time to experience each and absorb the lessons intended at each station or module.Really great place to take a child to open their minds and perspective.
The museum was awesome and the adjacent nature trails were short but pleasant.
Campsite bathrooms arent available to campers. Otherwise good spot!
Ive been here on Church events brought the kids here a few times Ive also just came to hang out a few times. My only problem fishing here is horrible! Plenty of turtles and alligators to see tho
Nice place to hangout with family
I I havent been here in a while but it was nice when I when I enjoyed myself
Pretty place right outside of the city.
This park is absolutely gorgous! We stayed here one night on our way back from Grand Canyon National Park. We were SUPER disappointed that we only had one night. The campground was splendid. We were right on the water and watched dear wading in the water in the evening. We had a Crane that kept landing in our site to fish. It was simple stunning. We WILL BE BACK and next time we plan to stay longer. There is so much to do at this park. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it. It had cement pads with electric and water hookup. Had to empty our sewage in the dump station on the way out!
Very clean, quiet and beautiful views.
Always a fun place for the kids
Nice place; bathrooms arent great but decent
We did the museum of natural science and it was awesome. We had a great time as a day date for 2 adults.
So many amenities with natural beauty. My favorite place in Jackson. It was a wonderful & informative experience.
Nice clean good hook ups other than highway noise quite. Very peaceful
We went to the museums and play area here. Still havent been to the state park area on the other side but Ive loved everything else so far.
Ok today fish bitting it was good
Variety of things to do including golf course and a great childrens museum!
Didnt see much state park
Need to be fix up The grass on the trail is over grown
Really enjoyed this park. Great location.
Super great place for the kids to play and learn with really nice people. We will definitely be back!!
Its pretty nice if you overlook the bathrooms. Bathrooms are ok if you are not overly modest.
Fascinating history of Mississippi area, from prehistoric to present. Great terrariums and aquariums. Outdoor nature walks. I, personally, was wowed by the size differences between present day bison and prehistoric giant bison!
Great place to take the family for a fun day!Great for kids, teens, and adults. Covered picnic areas and swings with lots of room to run.The Natural Science Museum is a great hands-on exhibits and friendly staff. GREAT for field trips! The Mississippi Childrens Museum is next door and has TONS of great interactive exhibits.
Very nice place! We enjoyed it and will definitely go back!
Beautiful park with scenic views. Nice walking/hiking trails, also.
Review based on the RV camping area. Ok place for a layover, but needs better upkeep. Washer&dryer were missing. Mens shower area had rodent droppings all over the bench and floor. Rest of the park seemed nice and better maintained.
Love the museum of science. Its a wonderful day trip for families and the traveling exhibits have all been great. Mississippi has several good museums and this is one of them.
Beautiful park where I caught many fish.
