Great historical monument. Walking into this home really puts you in the moment in time. The host gave us so much back story on the family, the home and the events that we felt like we knew tbe Evers family personally. She reassured me that it was okay to nurse my toddler who was growing restless and made us feel so welcomed.
Ive been going to Jackson for over 30 years and finally took the the time to stop by and visit this historical sight. The home is well kept. We actually had one of the neighbors come out and share some of his knowledge about this tragic assassination. He was able to point to the spot that the shot was taken. We didnt get to tour the inside because it was pretty early when we stopped by.
The home has been preserved very well over the years. It was a very somber experience to stand on the driveway where a good man was murdered. The visualization process was very difficult for me.
Awe inspiring! What shall you do to serve others in the EVERS Spirit!
Very historically important and heartbreaking at the same time.
Great visit! Will come back for the full tour.
Was only in town for the day and was not aware an appointment was required...tho I can see the reason for it...from what I was able to see it is well maintained and staffed with folks that are well versed in the history...need more of this around the country
Awwww awesome historical place of information
POWERFUL site. Well preserved. Must see.
Medgar and Myrlies home is a must visit. I never cried so much just from the energy, the historic significance, or the life you could feel that lived there. If you visit please leave a generous donation. Private donations really keep this home open to educate future generations.
What an experience, to be able to visit this piece of history. I am deeply honored...
Visiting the Medgar Evers house was a highlight of our Southern civil rights history road trip...thanks to Ms. Minnie Watson, the docent who made the whole visit worthwhile. She knew Medgar Evers personally, she lives in the community, she narrates both the man and his time in history, as well as bringing the story to the present day. Ms. Watson makes this historic site seem very real and very present-day. Of all the houses, plantations, and museums we visited this is by far the smallest--its a very modest ranch-style home---but the story and the man are as powerful as it gets.It is imperative that you call ahead and book an appointment. This is not-to-be-missed opportunity to hear history and interpretation from someone who lived it.
Man i have never been here before infac ti am writing this from school! But knowing thos man was assaisnated he mustve been really big! I hope to learn alot from this mon and hopefully i learn everything aboit him. He is truely a figure of history of nthye civil wrights area. Iconic home, preserved for the world to see. Hope the Jackson P&R appreciate this national treasure homed in Jackson Mississippi. I was greatly impacted by my visit
We were fortunate to be able to arrange a tour when our student group visited Jackson. Ms Minnie Watson did a wonderful job of telling the story of the Evers family and patiently answered many questions. Her story of meeting Medgar Evers and his impact on her life was powerful.
The guide was very informative and shed light on a lot of information that I didn’t know.
We really enjoyed the visit. Tougaloo College has done an excellent job preserving this piece of history.
Very moving, just to sit outside and look at this humble home.
Very educational, sobering and inspirational. A must for any conscientious person.
Not at all what I thought. Was expecting a museum. Just a house that you couldnt go in
Mrs minnie was so nice and informative
Gripping oral history of Medgar Evers ultimate fate and his impact on the Civil Rights movement. Currently its ran by Tugaloo College but the Parks department is taking over shortly which means it will never be the same. Id go as soon as possible to get the full experience, otherwise, there will be a tour from a federal agency that has been gutted financially in recent years.
Awesome Awesome Awesome!!! Reena Evers was there. I got to meet the wonderful daughter of Medgar. Ms. Minnie was very knowledgeable and friendly. She answered all of our questions and had personal knowledge of Mr. Evers. I suggest that everyone visit the Medgar Ever’s home. It’s a wonderful piece of history.
Such an awesome experience i learned so much about this special place. Very emotional & precious part of ourstory in time
It was really cool to see a place that takes you back to the Civil Rights area. It was well taken care of and the neighbors are really friendly.
A very somber and moving experience, it was the highlight of our trip to Jackson, MS. The home has been so well cared for that it feels like going back in time. It is also a very relevant reminder of the courage that is necessary in the onging fight against racism in the US. Our guide was Ms. Minnie, she did an exceptional job at telling the story and answering questions. It was mentioned several times that the museum is changing hands and may not be open to the public much longer so I would encourage anyone interested in seeing it to go sooner rather than later.
This is a hidden gem in Jackson. Its small and not too overwhelming like the larger museums. It has a nice timeline wall. They could do better with the room setup. But I loved the place.
This small but important stop on the Civil Rights trail is surprisingly rich. The docent was absolutely fantastic! She not only shared the story of Medgar Evers, but also that of the civil rights efforts in the area and her own experiences during that tumultuous time. Well worth the visit!
This is the home of famed civil rights leader Medgar Wiley Evers. The Jackson International Airport among a few other things have been named after him. His home where he was assassinated has been turned into a museum. It is a pure time capsule left just as it was when he was murdered and still full of all the families belongings and such. Another great option if you like this kind of thing is to check out the newly opened Civil Rights Museum in downtown Jackson also.
A terrible thing happened here, but fortunately Tougaloo College has turned into an important learning opportunity and a meaningful historical landmark. Glad I was able to see the house and learn about the history. A very moving experience.
Presenter Ms. Minnie Watson was great.. very informative
Wonderfully kept historical site! A must see for history buffs!
Host was very informative and energetic.
If you want to understand American history and the social fabric of this country. Take the tour of the Evers home. Tours are scheduled by contacting Tougaloo College on Facebook.
We stopped by on Saturday and the house was closed. There is a commemorative sign out front and a few photo boards on the house to read when not open.
Historic site. The pain lingers in the air.
The speaker was well knowledge and knew the facts very well
Sad to see his blood stains are still there where he laid dying on his porch. Every one should stop by and visit this place
Wonderful tour provided by Ms. Watson for our family reunion. She is extremely knowledgeable about the area and life of Mr. Edgars. We were very appreciative to learn more about this great American who made the ultimate sacrife to help eliminate Jim Crow.
Always good to visit local civil rights monuments.
Well compiled historical information, free and very good facilitators.
Excellent historian from Tougoloo College telling the story of Medgers life.
Friendly people, home kept immaculately and great information about a great world leader Medgar Evers
History Preserved .......To stand where Medgar fell ......Worth the trip. Respect.
Well I got robbed on the street this house is on so
Ive lived here a while and never been till today.
Enjoyed this museum not as interactive as many others but always enjoy the interaction between me and a knowledgeable human over technology spectacles anyday.
This experience was an experience I will forever remember very powerful! Especially the tour guide I had.
Nice well kept home need sign out on main rd but a pleasant visit
One of the greatest parts of history!
Interesting place where there is a lot of History. The home hasnt change much and the curators are very knowledgeable
Excellent! Call for an appointment for a tour and dont be deterred by the need to leave a phone message. You will get a tour.
Full of history. Great historical landmark. Kudos to the curator!
Ms. History come to life
A good place to visit if you want to learn about the civil right movement
One of the most moving experiences of my life. I have lectured on it now in my courses at the College of Charleston.
Great experience there!
I am grateful for the opportunity to stand in the living room of such a grand man, Medger Evans, as Ive stood for years on his ancestral shoulders. What an honour!!!!
It was not open for tours the day we were there but we were able to get our picture taken standing in the driveway. Thay was cool.
Historical site. Id highly recommend a visit
Awesome site!
It was great Ms.Watson was very knowledgeable and gave insight information.
Totally surreal. Very well maintained.
I have seen the movie the Medgar Evers story and to go to the very house where he gave his life to support the civil rights movement was very humbling. I highly recommend this as a stop for a better understanding of the civil rights history.
We only got to see the outside of the house which had a lot of information. But the doors were locked on Sunday.
This was a awesome tour.I recommend that everyone should visit Megar Evers Home.
It was wonderful to be able to be in this place. Nothing more better than to be right there amongst black history.
