So I read other reviews and this was supposedly the best trail hike in the OC. I mean it’s ok at best but it doesn’t beat Bommer or Whiting. It’s a 2 mile loop and a good amount is next to the freeway. I want to get away from city life and I nature walk not view it for over a mile. It’s a good walk for little kids but overall itwas just ok.

Nice little walk (@ 2 mi.) with some pleasant views, but very limited and lots of traffic noise. Dogs on leash permitted and foot traffic flows in one direction.

Very small loop but easily traversed but all family and people groups. Restrooms at the base of the trail. Parking lot is small but you can park across the street at the park. You can also cross over to the Shady canyon trail at the base as they intersect.

Quail loop is a perfect and serene hike if you only want to do about an hour long hike. Even less if you power walk. Hardly any people around so it felt like a nice getaway without going too far.

Really nice trail half hidden in the hills. Its pretty popular with the locals, so depending on when you go the trail can be pretty busy and not as relaxing as you hoped. Depending if you go left or right when you start the trail, youll either have a steep(ish) incline to start (if you go left) or a more relaxed incline if you go right. There isnt too much parking for busy days, but if you go just a bit further up the road theres a larger parking lot.

I really enjoyed this trail definitely gives you options on how to start and end. You can start off going uphill or going around to the right near the 405 which Im not a fan of cause you want to take in nature not see cars zoom by. I really prefer going up and then back up when its flat.

Great place to go for a hike. You see a lot of lizards that kids love to catch. Some snakes - so be careful. I hear there are mountain lions as well but weve never seen them. Take some binoculars and some water, the hike is short but it gets hot quick. Get off the couch and go for a hike and enjoy.

From here you can hike/run/bike 3 different trails. The Quail Hill loop is 1.75 mile long with about 100 feet of elevation. The Shady Canyon trail is an out and back trail thats 4.4 miles long total with about 200 ft of elevation. You can extend it into a 7 mile long trek by continuing over to the Bommers Canyon Trail loop. Lastly, the longest and most difficult trail starts behind the Community Center building. This trail goes all the way to Newport Beach as it connects to the Crystal Cove Trails. From Quail Hill to Crystal Cove State Beach is about 12 miles, depending on which way you go after you hit the top of El Morro.

A nice 5 mile walk. After living an incredibly sedentary lifestyle for the past 4 years, I decided to join the family for an impromptu hike. I havent been active since my days running cross country in high school, but I found the Quail Hill Trailhead rather pleasant. Gradual hills and a generally flat landscape make for a forgiving experience. Im only 21, so perhaps this is a deciding factor.Regardless, this is a well-maintained trailway close to a community center, nearby neighborhoods, and a shopping center- all while maintaining its own sense of serene isolation. If youre on the fence, youve got to give this trail a shot.

Great trail for easy hiking/running. The higher-than-usual rain that we’ve had has made the are even more lush and green, and the scenery is simply beautiful all around, especially for an area so close to the freeway. Also located at the head of the Shady Canyon trail, which is great for more intense running/biking.

This is a pretty hike (like most). Beautiful canyons, a couple bridges, overlooks the golf course in some areas. It does connect to other hiking trails, so if you have the time, energy and good shoes, youll like this. The incline is not too steep, you can run if youre inclined (pun intended).Populated just enough. Good for a single girl.

The best trail in Irvine. I go this hiking every weekend with my running club members.First it has great view of natural. Specially near boomers canyons is so beautiful. And also it is little bit hilly so it is good for training. If you want to practice hill, then you can start from quai hill park to the crystal cove peak park. The round trip is about 9 miles. If you live in Irvine, this is trail you must go.

Ma
Review №27

Nice place to walk. From the parking lot you can travel back towards the freeway or away from the freeway. Both ways are interesting for walking and birding. Towards the freeway you travel past the fire station to a bike path, follow the dirt path to the left and it will lead you to several areas that have varying amounts of water. Ducks, shorebirds, flycatchers and song birds can be found in this area. The trail leads bath to the bike path that you can follow for miles. If you chose to go away from the freeway the path is steep but the view is quite good. Several hills attract numerous birds including Northern Harrier, Greater Roadrunner, Red-tailed hawk, coopers hawk and an occasional White-tailed Kite.

Mountain bikes the Bommer canyon trail loop (about 14 miles) last Sunday, 2/11/19. We decided to head out in the rain and ignore the trail signs. The ride was beautiful but very very muddy. My buddy’s chain ended up breaking right by the 73 in the pouring rain so he waited beneath the freeway as I completed the remaining 6 miles back to the truck. Ended up being a pretty grueling ride compared to when the trail is dry. But it was well worth it and will always be a great memory.

It is a fine trail, and well kept. The path is well marked. However, the photos, at least as of October 2019, are misleading. The park recently experienced a burn, so its all dirt with no grass. ~2 miles round trip and basically flat. Not a good hike, but not a bad one either.

Nice 2 mile loop trail right off the 405 Fwy at Sand Canyon exit. You can walk, jog, mountain bike or bring the kids and dogs and get back to nature for a bit. There are a few picnic tables, and the bathrooms are not bad. There are water fountains and free parking, but the lot is small and weekend mornings before 10:00 get pretty packed. There is a bigger lot across the street though if you cant find a spot...
