I used to live close to the museum. I have been to about 1/3 of the exhibits theyve had during my life time, and I love all of them. They always have a local history room, interactive activities, a nature themed play room for kids, and themed displays. I love how much work is put into every exhibit. Its wheelchair accessible with ramps and an elevator and kids will have a hard time breaking anything. It has a cool gift shop and the employees are always really nice.
If you can see the picture in this review then you have basically seen this museum exhibit of Darwin and Dinosaurs. They had about 8 skeltons on display and then the second floor was a bunch of history about Darwin and his colleagues you could find information about on Wikipedia. Then they had stated that a section of the museum was closed...it was the rest of the Museum! They should have charged half of what they did for our group. The saving grace was the play area for the kids which was fun for them. But all in all quite disappointing and underwhelming.
Great experience! Each exhibit had something engaging for the whole family (even the kiddos). The dinosaur exhibit was my daughters favorite. I look forward to returning when the renovations are complete.
The small Dinosaur and Darwin exhibits are cool I guess but they have the other 60% of the Museum closed for renovations and charged us full price! Definitely not worth your buck right now until they are done renovating. Currently you walk in for 25 minutes to see 2 rooms and walk out. Prices need to be adjusted temporarily.
Always a good place to visit when they have new exhibits in town. They do work really hard to bring some interesting things into Idaho Falls. The admission price is equivalent to other cities in the intermountain area. I am satisfied with the experience.
Very informative and well presented. Darwin and Dinosaurs exhibit was extremely interesting. Unfortunately, part of the museum was closed (Idaho State history section) but we still enjoyed it very much.
My daughter and I went here the other day, and we had so much fun! The hands on, interactive childrens exhibit was perfect for my little girl. She loved the little cabin, and dressing up in pioneer clothes. But, we also had a great time at the other exhibits. My favorite exhibit was Eagle Rock, USA, I am not originally from this area, and I had never heard about the cities origin. The ten historic businesses in the exhibit, were so fun to look at. This is a great museum, and I will definitely be coming back.
Wow! The remodel is amazing. Darwin & Dinosaurs was fabulous, including the interactive exhibits complete with a stylus for hands free!
UPDATE:I was actually informed by locals that the Museum actually had the owner pass, who was a huge contributor to the success of this Museum in the past. If this is true, my deepest condolences. It is not my intention to leave bad reviews and move on, especially in these circumstances, I was unaware of the tragedy.I am hopeful going forward that this Museum will return to its former glory, which Im sure was the pride and joy of its former director. While there wasnt much to see as an adult here, there was probably educational benefit to the many children who visit the museum, and at least something to do amongst the continuous boredom Covid19 creates. MyApologies for the former roast of The Museum during these difficult times.
Small but well curated, knowledge docents. The Archimedes exhibit was great. The Eagle Rock village street also very well done. Wonderful childrens room as well. Go!
Good small dinosaur exhibit. Some Darwin exhibits upstairs. Other sections were closed. Should adjust $12 fee during this period. We found the other Idaho Falls attractions to be much more worthwhile all for lower prices -> Zoo+++, Collectors Museum and Potato Museum very enjoyable!
Alot of reading. Good for older kids. Museum was small in comparison to the price
Well laid out and very informative displays. Watched all 5 movies and found them to be interesting and full of (for me) new information. If I lived locally I’d have a membership.
I love this place! I feel like they bring us the best exhibits. Its always clean and the volunteers and staff are always nice and helpful. It is a great place to take your family.
Im going to have to get this four stars only because they were working on a section of it when we went. This is my first time coming here, and it was really cool to see everything they had to offer. Its very updated and modern, and extremely clean. They have very helpful and friendly guides to assist you with any questions you may have on the topics that are presented. They are very informed and have a great deal of knowledge. Also anything that has a penny smasher has my attention.
Fantastic museum. Become a member. Great programs for all ages.
Great place. One large part was undergoing renovation but the experience was still worth it.
Staff is really friendly but was not worth the price. Most of it was closed. Call ahead if you want to use the kids zone.
It is a small place, but they have some real quality exhibits. My nephews and nieces have loved the passes I got for them
We love museums and attend all we come across. This one was small and on par with what you would anticipate paying half of what they ask.
Steampunk is a great exhibit. Its interactive, but the images and interactive displays will not be of much interest to young children. Older children who like to read could be interested, especially if they have read any of Jules Vernes novels.
It was educational. But very limited. Hopefully they can get their remodel done soon.
We are visiting family in Idaho and they suggested that we check out the steam punk exhibit at the Museum if Idaho. It was excellent! We had a great time interacting with the exhibits and learning more about creativity and science. Emma Lee at the check-in was very nice and welcoming as were the other staff on duty. The facilities were clean. I would recommend a visit if you’re looking for things to do by Rexburg and Idaho Falls.
Not a huge museum, but a very well done museum. If you are a fan of museums, dont miss out on this one.
What a neat place to have in our community. Love that the exhibit change as well. Worth checking each time the exhibits change. Great place for school field trips.
It was a wonderful place. Went on a field trip with my daughter and her classThey had it so well planned out. It was great!
We had so much fun! The staff were all very knowledgeable and friendly. There was a scavenger hunt for the kids which we opted not to do, but I thought it was great. The steam punk exhibit was amazing! Informative and hands on. Well definitely be back next time were in the area.
We love the museum and all the culture it brings to the community. They have rotating exhibits, amazing events, and is always a favorite to visit. I highly suggest buying a yearly pass so you can enjoy everything the museum has to offer.
We have been to the museum a couple of times when staying in Idaho Falls and always injoyed it. The dinosaur in motion exhibit was very cool and the whole family had a great time. Fair price for admission in my opinion.
Probably worst museum I’ve ever been to. You pay full price ($42 for family of four) for only one traveling exhibit (2 rooms), which has nothing to do with Idaho. The museum itself is not open, albeit for renovations, but when you go to the Museum of Idaho, you kind of expect there to be something about Idaho in the museum. There is not. Skip it until the renovations are complete.
Definitely the best museum to go to in Idaho falls and the steampunk exihbit is really cool. The staff is also very freindly.
The museum is being renovated right now so only partially available. We recently saw dinosaur exhibits so chose not to go.
Loved their exhibit at the time and their section of Idaho history. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
Really cool and informative. Cant wait to visit again.
A great place to take kids. Just a great place to spend an afternoon and learn about whatever they are featuring. Started going regularly in 2003 when Sue was there. I cant say what has been my favorite.
One of my favorite places to visit
I really liked the exhibits. My only complaint is very small. Most the interactive displays are glitchy, frozen and hard to use.
The museum is under renovation at this time (Aug 2019) but had a wonderful 2 hours with my 7 year old grandson. Currently the Archimedes exhibit is on display with many exhibits being hands on for the 5 to 80 age group. Thats not a typo, I enjoyed it as much as my grandson. In late September, early October the museum is going to have dinosaur exhibits in its newly renovated building. Cant wait to go back. -Grandpa
The new expansion to the Museum is amazing! There is so much to see. The new exhibit has fun games for kids and adults to play and some of the best dinosaur fossils I have ever seen. Highly encourage seeing this new museum. You will not regret it!
The exhibit was amazing! Price was a little steep (at least compared to what Im used to), but I can see why prices are high to help keep fun exhibits coming. The dinosaur exhibit ended rather quickly, but there was so much information on Idahos history on the lower level. The gift shop was okay, but there wasnt too much of a selection at a price range that I (a student) could afford.
Much of the museum was closed and we were not alerted to this by staff. It honestly felt like a waste of money, only two rooms in the building were open.
Great inexpensive place to enjoy interesting exhibits.
The dinosaurs were pretty amazing. Only 3 stars as two thirds of the museum was closed. (we still paid full price). The short films werent working either. We may go back if the full museum is opened.
The volunteers were super nice, but the museum was below par. It was absolutely not worth the $12 or $13 we paid per person to get in. Part of the museum was under renovation. There was absolutely no history about Idaho. I have been to museums all over the world that were fantastic and cost a lot less to enter. For visitors who were excited to learn about the state, we were thoroughly disappointed.
This is a great museum! The exhibits rotate regularly, and they’re stellar. Coming here, you’ll learn about Idaho’s history, but also experience the specially curated exhibit on display. They’ve done pirates, Archimedes, the Revolutionary War, bugs, and more. You’re guaranteed a great time here!
What a great resource! We spent the money for the annual pass, since our boys love the dinosaur exhibit. Great fun!
Nice museum to take a family of all ages. The children were very entertained by the Discovery Room. We had a toddler, a six year old, and a ten year old with us. Everyone had fun. Looking forward to going back when the renovation is done.
I loved sharing this experience with my kids when they were little. Now I am lucky enough to share it with my grandkids. We love coming to this museum.
Has a great selection of ideas for the switch of Museum ideas!
We always come to the new exhibits. My family loves it and we are so excited to see the new addition when it is completed. Staff are amazing and so helpful. Just wish prices were a little lower
All of the staff was helpful and informative!!! The exhibits were very neat and clean as well as fun and educating. I love taking my family here when ever I get the chance.
Love the variety of exhibits and STEM activities that are facilitated here. History, science and quality family time.
Great museum with lovely and knowledgeable staff. Saw the Archimedes exhibit and they had plenty of interactive exhibits for kids as well as a childrens exhibit area that is good for even small children (3 and up). Was reasonably priced at 12$ per adult, but prices may change. Definitely worth spending an hour or two.
Awesome information and it had lots of interaction displays for people to explore. Plan on going again when the remodel gets done.
Great museum that is full on interactive exhibits. The exhibits change based on a new theme every couple months so it is always fresh.
I went here for a work event. I brought along my 6 year old to make it more interactive. It was okay. The special at the time was Archemites, which I have heard was not the best one. I would probably do again if there family wanted to go, but Im not going to be there one to suggest it.
Love the dinosaurs and the Darwin exhibit
Staff was excellent, but my family and I paid 100 dollars just to see 1/4 of the museum. Nowhere is it advertised more than half of the museum is closed still. Dont waste your time or money. Go when its fully opened in December of 2020.
A quaint museum and very family friendly which I appreciated. We enjoyed ourselves and would visit again.
My kids love the place and had fun.
For the cost the exhibit was good but half of the bldg was closed and yet we were changed full price 48 dollars for 1 6 year old and 3 adults
We have been to the Museum of Idaho many times and the featured exhibits are always exciting and very well put on. The older exhibits could use some sprucing up, but are still enjoyable. The kids area is great, but could also use some updating.
The new expansion is awesome. My kids loved the Archimedes exhibit and the Darwin and Dinosaurs exhibit. We are excited for the new Way Out West permanent exhibit coming soon.
Little over priced but fun
Havent been here since the renovation and I was impressed. Lots of room.
Charged full price for tickets when only 10 percent of the museum was actually open
I really did enjoy their new dinosaur exhibit. However, for literally closing half the museum for renovations and still charging full price was disappointing. I’m sure the renovations will be great. But I’m a little soured by not offering a discount or “half off” your following visit. We didn’t know half of the museum was closed until the cashier told us AFTER we purchased our tickets. I just can’t recommend anyone to go until the renovations are completed, save your money.
Very little to experience. When we got there most of it was closed for renovations and that info wasnt online. So for the price it was disappointing. Also I know its a trivial thing but the building was very hot.
Lots of knowledge to be shared!
They charge full price and then after you have paid, let me and others know that only 1/4 of the exhibits were open. Two very small rooms were open to go through. They need to let people know ahead of time.
I love having a museum in town. I go every time there is a new exhibit. I do feel it’s a little overpriced for what they typically have. There have been a few times where it wasn’t what I expected and left kind of disappointed, but I’m still grateful I get to experience it. There’s also a permanent exhibit separate about the history of Idaho Falls which I stop at every time. There is a place for the kiddos to learn and experience things as well. It’s a great place overall, just a little overpriced.
Went for the solar eclipse. They went out of their way to make it a great experience for all who attended. Went to the museum after the fact and my son went through 5 times and was trying to go again. He loved the space exhibit.
Always an amazing place to spend time! Plus new renovations are great!
Good time. Always something different at the museum. This time its darwin and dinosaurs. Great place to take the family.
Great interactive exhibit called “Archimedes: Science and Innovations.” The exhibit volunteers were particularly kind and full of good information. Eight year old grandson had a lot of fun. So did his Mom and me.
Great museum, very educational and exciting.
There are a lot of fun and interesting permanent exibits that are fun for the family. The kids play area is great, and the changing exibits are fun to see. I loved the meet a scientist event, and it is super family friendly.
Fun low-key adventure. Nice family friendly environment.
Depends on what is featured here but I like taking my kids to this museum. I like how they display everything and keep it interactive but the staff can be less than friendly at times. Great little downtown location and very fun and informative.
It was great, so informative the people who gave us information on the Dinosaurs were great at explaining things I really enjoyed it,also the Christmas Display was great so fun to learn where the traditions came from, fun to get to make the Orange and Cloves decoration and Popcorn and Cranberry garland we had a wonderful time, plan on going back
I was truly disappointed when I took my family through. We were charged the full $42 for a family of 4 to only see half of the musuem. The other half was under construction/renovation but we were not told that when we came in. That is truly a rip off and disappointing. We wont be back.
Darwin and dinosaurs was neat and we liked that part but it was disappointing because the Idaho history side is closed for renovation so it didnt take that much time and we were done. Tix should be discounted during renovation.
Dont waste your money only a quarter of museum open and paid $66 for nothing but a few exhibits entire museum not open Dec 2020. Highly disappointed and definitely would not ever take my family to this rip off
I love the museum but due to the renovations last time I went the exhibit was incredibly small. It was disappointing and the tickets were still the normal price.
The on-tour exhibits are...ok. The Archimedes display was one of the better ones.But...still the best part of the museum is the kids room. I took oldest there when she was young. And, now Im taking grandchildren. We spent about an hour on the exhibit...and about two hours in the awesome play room.Best Regards,David S. R. Clark, ASM
We go twice per year, from a few counties away, our day in the big city. I never wanted money back.
Well laid out, half closed. The Idaho exhibits were not open.
I love all the new updates. Its much more interactive now and more modernized
A great little museum. The Archimedes exhibit was awesome. Very excited to see the Darwin traveling exhibit when they complete their expansion.
Very cool place. I imagine it will be even cooler when the construction is done. I cant wait until my kids are a bit older and they can enjoy it more.
Very interesting museum! The Archimedes exhibit was very interesting. It was great to see all of the old technology.
Very interesting always has something that is great for everyone. Not too pricey especially for a museum. Very good for anyone with wheelchairs and the staff is usually very friendly.
Very interesting museum! It was great to see all of the old technology.Has excellent displays.Very educational.
Remodel looks amazing. Lets get done amazing exhibits.
Great museum with friendly staff and awesome interactive exhibits! Well worth the time to stop and check it out!
