I have loved that course since I was a kid, but you wont catch me there any time soon, not unless they make some real changes.Disappointing. Weekend charge was about $55 with a cart... THAT IS NOT A $50 COURSE. Most greens were bad, ball wobbles all through the line. Marshall was being too extreme, made me move my cart immediately when I was about to hit because it was to the side of the path in the shade. The course was plenty dry for 90 deg rule, but was path only... and no indication of that in the clubhouse or pro shop, I would have walked if I would have known.Much better courses to go to for that money.
Played a round of golf at Hermann Park a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. Friendly staff and reasonable prices, beautiful day outside as well. My only complaint was that the greens had recently undergone serious work and were hardly playable. Understandable but frustrating to put on sand.
Nice course in the museum district. The only reason Im not giving 5 stars is I purchased range balls before my match but the range was already full. Just a waste of 6 bucks but still they could communicate to the clubhouse before letting people spend money.
Finding a parking space is tough, but what do you expect in a location that is right down the road from 4-5 million people. Not a lot of fuss or fancy ESA here. Just get your bucket of balls and go hit ‘em.
Never friendly in the pro shop . But fun little course in the middle of the city
The course was cool but it was crowded. We waited to tee off and the fairways crossed up alot.
Well taken care offI walk as a senior and enjoy the layout. Great value .
10 bucks for a large bucket is good, but you have to hit off mats.
Hermann Park is not going to impress you BUT it scratches an itch. Its location is probably its best asset. The range is mats only. The ball dispenser gets stuck often. (There is a range program that could save you a few dollars if you plan to go often) The course if short and walk-friendly. Its a relaxed golf course to say the least.
In better shape now that 17 is back to normal. Tee boxes need to be watered as they are hard and the golden tees have no grass. But the course is getting better and better. Too many people though!
The course is in great condition. After all the rain, the course played 90° exceptional drainage.
This course could be so much more. Its location and scenery is fabulous being in the middle of Houston, but course maintenance needs to improve...lots of bare patch along the course and the greens are terrible. Also a pretty short course.
Greens are terrible.... almost unplayable on some holes. Someone also broke my car window in the parking lot. There are no cameras in the parking lot so be careful. 3 people stopped when the cops were coming and they all said it has happened to them. Will not play this course again if my car won’t be safe parking next to the driving range in front of all those people.
Wonderful place to play golf - most beautiful and picturesque- lots of lakes. The staff is very courteous and friendly. My most favourite spot in Houston
Wonderful course and range. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. Only downside is that sometimes there’s a line at the range and traffic going by can be very loud.
A short but challenging course. Extremely well kept and great price.
I enjoy playing at this golf course. I didnt give it 5 starts for two reasons, first out of all the times i have played here (which is around 7) I do not see the cart lady more than twice in 18 holes. Most the time I see her once. The other reason is that I dont like how you do not see the club house again until the 18th hole. So if you want to take a break or get a hot dog after 9 holes you cant without losing your spot and driving the cart past a couple holes.Other than that, as long as you can hit the fairway 80% of the time you should be okay to play here. There isnt really a rough separating one fairway from another, just a line of trees. So expect to see people hitting from your fairway to get back to their hole. There is a lot of water on this course so if you cant hit over water hazards expect to lose balls in the water. Pace of play here really depends on the day. I have been there at times with no group in-front or behind me, and other times when i have had to wait 5-10 min at every hole to tee off.The fairways and greens are regularly maintained. The course itself is not very long so a lot of people tee off the blue instead of white if they have a strong drive. I do not have a strong drive so i stay at the white. They have a free GPS app range finder too.Other than that enjoy the course! Grab a cold one and get bogeying.
Extremely convenient, nice without being stuffy. Great driving range!
Clean, great people and in the city. A bit better than the crowd elsewhere
Love Herman Park! Ran there for three years when I lived in Texas! Quiet and safe place for running or walking at anytime of the day!
Greens are in perfect condition....great course
Great shape, great workers.
Really great for a municipal course. Good prices, friendly staff. No frills clubhouse with wine and beer.
Cheap, central location and down to earth. Lot as well kept as other courses but still a fun day out. Back 9 is more difficult with lots of water.
Probably the worst municipal course in Houston. Gus, and Memorial are far superior and Sharpstown while a tier below those two, is still far ahead of Hermann. The greens are in terrible shape at Hermann (year long). The worst part about Hermann is that they dont allow walkers during the weekend. They force you to pay an extra $15 on top of the green fee during the weekend. Goes against the entire spirit of the game in my book.Only come here as a last resort.
Good price, but the course is very bunched up and with tons of amateur golfers. So duck and cover
Pretty cool course! It was fairly well kept. I liked how the driving range was set up on your way to the 1st tee. I need the warm up!!
How does management let greens go bad like this? What goes through their mind? Is it: Well just let the fungus go for a few months and see if what happens? or is it: We had NO IDEA the course was falling apart?Or is it: Only six months left on our management contract with the city. Spend nothing, not even to save the greens. Every dollar we put into maintenance is a dollar lost. Going to be the citys problem soon enough. Yeah, thats it.Whenever the city gives up management of its golf courses - Gus Wortham, Brock, Glenbrook - the courses get trashed. LEARN, PEOPLE!
They have a lovely walking area. This park like other parts of Hermann always attracts the best out of people, You never not get a chance to meet new people and find nature on every side you turn to. so go outside and always have fun. I give this park a 5/5 and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. as always have a great day and a better tomorrow
The course is in pretty good shape. Slow play to be expected. Most greens rolling at moderate speeds but true and smooth.
Wow, what an awesome course right in the heart of downtown. Beautiful course. A couple of the holes are a little tricky. I really, really like this course. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, great food at the clubhouse and it is affordable. Highly recommend.
I could have kept the 5 star review that i have previously given this golf course, but let me tell you why the downgrade. This is definitely a beautiful golf course and park in general but you guys have to do something about security. People are fishing on the golf course when theyre not supposed to and if they get hit with a golf ball the golfer is liable. Also, about 1 month ago one of my friends who goes for walks around the golf course got threatened by an obviously very deranged guy with a knife for telling him not to harass the ducks by the pond. Im wondering if this place is just getting worse or it was always this way and folks didnt notice or decided not to say anything about it?
Course was in great shape overall but the green were a little sparse in spots. Slow Play is common, there are no course Marshalls. Be patient.
I am not ready to play golf yet. I am still taking lessons from the pro. The pro there is great. I can see me improving.
Played a few rounds of golf here. Super tight course. You might not even need your driver. No matter what youre into there are plenty of beautiful people walking around the jogging track.
The attitude of the check-in gentleman.
Our Fraternity ( Kappas ) had our Christmas party there, nice facility....
Nice course, good crowd, affordable green fees. Cart was in good condition and everyone was friendly.
Love playing here. The staff is friendly for the most part. The green on hole 17 is in horrible shape, however the rest of the greens are great. The last two times I played there a homeless person on the course. Made for an interesting round.
Staff friendly but course is in bad shape. Greens are awful.
Too many distractions from people walking around the course, people teaching work out classes on tee boxes, tee box-fairway-greens were in less that fair shape, inconsiderate golfers, and the cart girl wasnt even cute..
Great staff. Some of the players are knuckleheads since its a public course. But the course is in amazing shape considering it *is* public. Unfortunately, Houston is very rainy, so at least 10-20%of the time the course is rained out.The driving range is top notch and very reasonably priced, open in almost any weather, and all lit which allows the range to stay open until 9 at night, even in the winter when it gets dark around 6pm.
Great place to walk your dog, go for a run, or have a picnic
So much wasted potential on this course, maintenance needs to step up, first time playing after the course reopened and the tee boxes and greens are terrible, dry patches, weeds, you name it. There’s not a single good green! At $58, it isn’t exactly cheap either... for 20-25 bucks more I rather go to wildcat, which is what I’ll do going forward.
Great location but its way overpriced. Would be better if it was on GolfNow. They just increased their driving range price too
Played today first time after about 10 years and was very disappointed on such a gorgeous golf day. Course is in dire need of a major renovation like they did 20 some years ago. Every other course I have played at in area is still wet, but this ones fairways were like concrete. Balls roll forever on off fairway hits, then you cant find them due to the leaves (yes, I was part of the problem here:)) Hard to find good grass to hit off of. Anyway, nice folks working there and some nice views, but not a place for a serious golfer.
This is a clean park, you cam feed the birds, BBQ, picnic, read and rest.
Great golf course to play a good game. Moreso, its quiet & well-kept by the City of Houston.
Nice little course. It’d be nice if they had a turn though.
If youre a fan of urban municipal golf this is one you have to play. Real people family friendly diverse. No hustlers. Affordable you can get on pretty easy. Its the go to in town for our group. There are other great experiences in town ad well.
It’s about what I expected for a public course. Loved that I could just show up early morning and walk on.A few greens were in rough shape. My biggest issue is the tee boxes. They are rock hard are in poor condition. The fairways are in good shape though, if you can find them.Course plays really tight between all the trees. Many places to lose your ball in the water. Driver is only needed on about three or four holes.Overall I enjoyed it! Much more fun the second time since I knew how the course played. Very challenging on the first attempt.
Great little muni.. staff is unbelievably friendly.. course plays fast.. Great value!
I come here frequently but BEWARE last weekend while I was at the range someone tried to break into my car. Ive tried calling Byron several times but hes VERY BUSY and obviously cant return voice mails either. Nevertheless, the facility itself is nice.
Greens were awful. Way overpriced
Seeming to be my 2nd home, I love the yoga in the park.
Venerable old course...fun to play, especially when its not too busy.
7:04 am tee time; nobody there on a Wednesday. Realized as we started playing most of the greens we bare or spotty. Too bad because the weather was decent for mid Dec. We played quickly for 2 people but as a rule dont forget to ask if they are having a tournament since nobody mentioned it. Hopefully in the coming months the greens will come back nicely. Give it a try. Payed $38 w/cart today.
The course has a decent setup and is well maintained. Dont expect the traps to be immaculate but you shouldnt expect that from a city course. The staff is friendly and the range is good. Other than peak times on weekends, Id say theres plenty of parking.
Actually didnt play golf there, I came fairly close to getting hit by one of the golf balls though...which is sort of like playing there. My son and I did a lot of walking in the park while he was recovering from his bone marrow transplant and the park is beautiful and tranquil... except when you here four!
Great course good price.
We had a good lunch and they were able to feed and seat 58 people
SLOW play. Overpriced. A pitiful privately managed muni. Chops playing blues, galore. Poorly managed and run. Do yourself a favor and go to Gus, Sharpstown (which isnt all that), or better yet Wildcat. SMH, an utter shame. I saw numerous occasions where people were waiting for the group in front of them who had zero clue, nor regard, for pace of play etiquette. What a joke, marshals are non existent and certainly dont marshall.
Plenty of free parking here when all else is full. cute hiking trail thru the middle of course will take you to Zoo & Miller Theater.
Nice.
Considering the volume it’s not a bad municipal. Recently moved about 30 seconds from the course so decided to go check it out. Staff at check-in and starter shack were both pleasant and courteous. Breezed through the first 2 holes then it got backed up a bit. Luckily, the twosome in front of us offered to let us join them and they were fantastic to play with. The course itself is quite short, even from the tips. If you’re a better player you won’t find yourself hitting driver much, if at all. The greens aren’t super speedy but pretty decent overall for a muni track. Beverage cart is available and did a good job making her rounds. I didn’t hit range balls but noticed you have to hit off mats when driving by it. Not a big fan of that at all. I’m not originally from TX but this seems to be the norm at many places. Overall, the experience was about as I imagined but I did think the price point was a bit on the high end for this type of course. I’d probably play again in the future just because of the proximity to where I live. However, I’ll definitely be checking out Wildcat and other surrounding area courses first.
Greens on golf course need some work done. Some were good, some were below average.
Packed, but slow play wasnt too bad. Holes 3 and 17 greens are in bad shape. Fairways are dry so if you hit them you will get a lot of roll out.
Its a great place to a out with friends and not break your bank
Nice green, inviting staff, cozy cafe area fairly quiet @ times
This is a very nice, well kept course set in the middle of the city. Which winds through a park and adjacent to the zoo.
Good golf course and the price very affordable. Wouldnt play here after a rainy day tho as the course can be really wet and boggy as I dont think their irrigation system is that great here.
Pretty short even from the tips which is nice if youre not a bomber. Its very tight and requires shot making ability. Greens are always well kept but a bit slow for my liking.
Review only on driving range: Overall it does the job, for the most part. Pros: up-keep is good....Cons: their ball machine is old and sucks. It takes only exact change. Some of the practice balls are cracked. Sometimes the machine is stuck and no balls come out. Some of the mats are on uneven concrete which renders them useless. No lights.
Its a nice place to play a quick round of golf but while playing you dont have access to the clubhouse so you better pack your own food and drinks. The hitting mats at the driving range need to be replaced! They have seen better days.
Just love this place, I try to go there almost twice a week. The range is really good and the staff is very helping. Though the machines and carpet can use some maintenance.
Great course for being public. Reasonably priced and in good shape. You cant beat the location with the scenery, especially when coupled with the great service except the food bar - slow and always on the phone taking personal calls.
Convenient at the heart of the city. Nice jogging, biking, walking areas around to relax. Houston zoo next to the area, historc district ver close inside rhe loopand medical center just next to the golf course. Very sccessiple point with highway connections.
I went for an event at the Club House. It is a clean multipupose room. With a view of the course. Good parking. High ceilings and a fireplace. Plain enough that it could be configured for any type event. The address is on McGregor Way, but it is easier to access of Almeda.
You dont feel like youre in the middle of the city! Well manicured and delightful experience!
Very nice. Relaxed
Great place to walk; lots of shade
Nice course in town. Needs more tlc
Had a great time. Food was excellent!!!
Great greens super friendly staff.
A great place for the hold family.
Fantastic Driving Range and an Awesome Golf Course, Plus an Excellent Staff.
Horrible... didnt get insight over the phone that back 9 was under construction... front 9 the greens were sand and slightly green.... probably wont play again
Great for a safe walk or run after work.
First time here just to visit the driving range. Only option is to hit off of the mats, I prefer to have a grass option. Had a great experience with the staff though. Gentleman in the pro shop was nice. When the auto golf ball dispensing machine malfunctioned on payment I had no trouble flagging down an attendant who remedied the problem.
Ducks and running paths
Good a always, nothing new, but same stuff like 15 years ago. You my to play, dont have a t time, comme here.
Good condition, a little close to jogging trails. Any erratic shot right might hit someone on the trail
Putting greens were overall in good shape. The course is rather open and great for beginners. I felt that the price is reasonable for the convenient location. Ill go again!
Cant speak on the full course, as I have yet to play a full 18, but the driving range and staff are superb. None of the snottiness Ive ran into at other places because my clubs arent top of the line and my swing isnt perfect. Decent prices for a bucket to hit, and bring cash so you dont have to walk all the way to the club house to get your range balls.
