Art Factory (a small blackbox style theater company based in the north downtown area of Houston) is exactly as their name suggests - A powerhouse of theater, with all its mechanics such as its actors, lighting, direction, musicians all working effortlessly together inside the factory to produce its end result - fantastic theater.I had the pleasure of watching their production of MURDER BALLAD. The small cast of 6 each give stellar performances that in my opinion you would expect from seeing a production in a bigger theater venue at twice the price I paid for my ticket (just $25!).I one hundred percent enjoyed this show and I would most definitely recommend that if you havent seen or heard of this show or Art Factory, then GET YOURSELF A TICKET to one of their productions. It will tick all the boxes for an enjoyable night out!
Rocky Horror was such an amazing performance. Janet was absolutely mind blowing sounded exactly like the real deal. I thought she was lip singing initially. Loved every minute of this group.
Saw Rocky Horror on opening night and was blew away by this performance. And of course the leads were amazing and the band and the set but also their phantoms, two specifically the young man with the gas mask and the young man with the bird beak, truly made me know how amazing this theatre is. The amount of focus and character you saw from both of them WITHOUT lines is truly outstanding. If you haven’t seen Rocky here get your tickets ASAP! Much love!
A wonderfully well kept place with good casting and quality proformances for such a small theater company. Great singing too. As of this review their season is over for the year, but I highly encourage anyone to go and see them as soon as they can!
Went and saw Grease and the play was very good. It is a small venue but they serve alcohol there if you are wanting some drinks. The prices were great as you just donate what you think is fair. The tickets arent expensive, for the shows and they put on a great performance.Close to Karbach brewery and downtown courthouse area. If you like going to shows then you will not be disappointed.
Its cozy--the auditorium seats 90. The tickets are not reserved so you can sit where you want. The parking is free. The parking lot seems delightfully free of homeless people wandering around. They have a bar and the prices are reasonable. They only have two bathrooms though so the line might be long at intermission and after the show. The crew for Grease was outstanding--they are all marvelous dancers.
I seriously consider Art Factory Houston’s best kept secret. The stunning talent of the Art Factory group matches anything you’d find on Broadway, but in a small theater space. If you haven’t had the luck to check out an Art Factory production - go! You won’t be disappointed.
If you liked TUTS UNDERGROUND shows at the Hobby Center, you will love this theater. All the shows I have seen here have been awesome. So much talent for a small theater. Every seat is good. You get to see new and unique shows, not the usual. You will not be disappointed!
My wife and I visited this little theater twice. Love the first play. Really enjoyed the second one aswell. Though the audio mixing was terrible. They serve you delicious little cocktails right before you go in. I guess it would be nice to have food as well.Strongly recommend this place if you like boutique little theaters. Theres several performers hear that are just fantastic.
So Art Factory is this little hole that looks like part of an old shipping warehouse. I wasnt expecting much. MAN WAS I SURPRISED!Im no connoisseur, but I didnt see a single mistake, missed line, fumbled step. It was beautifully orchestrated. The singing was impressive. The actresses and actors were well cast.I dont know what other praise I can give except to say Ill definitely be going back.
The Art Factory isnt afraid to take on some very ambitious productions, using local talent. Though the venue has some sound challenges, I have paid more than $100 for professional productions and venues that had similar challenges. The best part is, every seat is a good one....the productions are mature, and the effort....for what I am sure is under a limited budget...is worth seeing.
We love Art Factory! The local talent that is showcased here is beyond amazing! The small intimate theatre puts you right in the action and you can bond with the characters. If you haven’t seen a show there you must ! You will become addicted like us!
Incredible performance of Tuck Everlasting! My expectations were blown away by both the venue and the performers... Really excited to see future productions in this cool environment!
Small intimate theater in downtown Houston. Very reasonably priced theater with great productions. All the seats are great! The shows performed here are not your typical musical theatre! Do yourself a favor and catch a show at the Art Factory, you wont regret it!
The actors were amazing in Rocky Horror, definitely returning to another show!
Saw murder ballad on a whim with some friends. Everyone loved it and we are planning to find more shows to attend throughout the 2019 season. For murder ballad the cast was small but very talented and effective and the live band was rocking. Also, the online ticket price was stellar value.
Great theatre! Fantastic cast!!! So talented and such a variety of shows. Really great! Definitely recommend supporting local arts and talent at this theatre!
Excellent musical: The Heathers. My 14 year old granddaughter loved it as much as my daughter and I. The singers were AWESOME. We had great seats but if we would sat father back we wouldnt have been able to hear JD. He Needs to talk a little louder. His singing was Great!
This place produces some of the best theatre in Houston. Amazing talent and so much passion!
Every show is a new experience - from rock and roll musicals to classic shows reimagined, this theatre group never fails to amaze and delight their audience
I saw Murder Ballad tonight. It was an amazing show. The cast did a great job. They all should be on Broadway.
Super fun little venue. Everyone is so friendly here I saw a play and they had bottled beer and wine. Will definitely be back!
Very intimate and inspiring. The actors are so passionate.
I dont really live in Houston so getting down there was a bit tricky for me. However the play I saw was The Hunchback of Notre Dame and it was just amazing! The cast blew me away and the set up might of not been the best but they really help set the atmosphere. Would of been 5 stars but I got lost on the way there. If I go back one day I might change my rating
Your theater needs to have an usher. The people in the back row obviously knew the girl playing belle and were screaming in our ears the entire show. The show was very enjoyable but by the end we considered walking out because our ears were ringing. Please add an usher so that bad customers do not ruin the show.
Fantastic cast of actors. Never disappointed. Love this Theater
New space for Art Factory after being in the EaDo Playhouse for years. Located on The Docks. Youll think youve missed it, and you might have, but most likely youre in the right spot, it still looks a bit sketchy outside. Inside, its a very creative space. Still working out some of the kinks for moving to a new home but should be a fantastic destination for quality live performances for years to come.
The art factory has the best location and you feel like you are at home watching TV with your friends and family..one of Houston must place to visit
This place gives you that creepy feeling you might get killed raped and robbed and not in that specific order. Very lovely venue inside but creepy area.
Awesome place!
Great place to enjoy art and music
Wonderful place. Ive been going since they opened.
The Art Factory does Great shows with Great casts, and has raised seating giving an excellent view of stage at a very reasonable price. It was previously the location of The Catastrophic Theater and shares a street with University of Houston Downtown Campus complex. Once youve gone there youll see it has easy in / out access via I-10 and Hayes-McKee exit/San Jacinto St by looping around the feeder lanes. (see GoogleEarth). I have attended their Musicals for many years and most of them several times as I also do and recommend at Obsidian Art Space, The Alley, The Company On Stage, The Wortham, Opera in the Heights and so many others. Its not opulent but otherwise just fine, and I rarely miss a show at The Art Factory. I give it 5 stars for quality of the shows, OK, possibly 4 stars if I subtract for lack plushness.
Excellent place but so so cold
Great show
Awesome performance! Great cast !
Great show, entertaining and 1st rate singing
The singers were AMAZING!
Great show!
Newish small theatre . Tickets are often available on Goldstar . Mixed bag but sometimes worth the risk
Great show. Sketchy area.
Exciting!
Great time.
