Had an amazing time here hanging out with a band we had seen at The House of Blues earlier in the evening. The bartenders were awesome, in their demeanor and their abilities. Its nice to come to a new bar in another town and made to feel welcome even though were not regulars. Great music on the jukebox, the purposely grungy atmosphere (well, you are at The Dirt!) and great drinks being poured. This night was probably one of the highlights of our vacation because of The Dirt.

Great local bar with local beers. I wish they had more live bands. But, the atmosphere is chill and the bartenders are great with service. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling through or staying in Houston.

The wife and I stopped in here for a few drinks before a show at House of Blues. Their description is perfect: gothic design, a hard rock playlist. We were here on a slow quiet sunday evening and it was just the way two anti-social rockers like it.

One of my favorite grunge bars in the city, prime location right by house of blues. There isnt too much of a wait to get drinks here, fair pricing. The decor is quaint and heavy metal is usually played here as the ambiance music

Good low-key bar in downtown right across from house of blues. Great bartender and easy spot to go to if you want a chill spot to chat with who youre out drinking with. Dont expect frills at this place, and thats just how a good place should be.

If youre into dark dive bars with heavy metal and rock still being played all night on the jukebox, there really isnt anywhere else you should be looking for. This is such a unique spot for downtown and its directly across from the House of Blues, so its easy to pop in for a pre and post drink from any concert. Its an easy walk from Rockets games or anything else going on at Toyota Center as well. The staff is amazingly friendly and great at getting drinks out even in the busiest times. Its also only a few blocks walk from the Metro Rail. They always have great beer on tap and a great selection of strong drinks. I recommend having dinner at El Big Bad and then taking the Metro Rail down to Dirt Bar!

Tuesday night after Sebastian Bach show, and same night of Game 1 of World Series...Bar wasnt packed full, but had a nice vibe going! Cold beer, loud heavy metal blasting, and great people watching opportunities. Who could ask for more?!?

OK little bar in downtown Houston, very dark when we were in, Bartender was nice and all but, When we noticed she took out $8 of our money for one beer, thats when we decided to leave.

This place has a great atmosphere. The drinks are not what you may expect from a place that looks like they do. You might expect the drinks to be made too fast to be good, but the staff has been there for a long time so they have a lot of experience. Take the chance and ask for a mixed drink. You may be surprised.

Visited about four, it was not full. Staff treated us so kindly. The bill was appropriate. Ambience is similar to Fresnos scene.

Was not to impressed. Waitress was way to snobby. We are from St. Louis and we stopped in because it was in walking distance from our hotel. we stayed for 2 drinks and couldnt take it anymore. Bartender was staring and talking to someone at the end if the bar looking at us the whole time. So my fiance was like lets just go.So our party just left. I dont know if it was because we were a mixed (black & white) group, in a biker bar or what. But none the less they lost some money that night. We left found another place. Would not recommend this place at all.

My friends and I were visiting Houston for my bachelor party. We came across dirt bar and because it had great ratings decided to check it out. It had to be our favorite part of the trip by far. We will definitely be back for more dirt bar in the future!

I had the time of my life in there. Its got some neat, but not over the top goth decor and then a simple layout. Theres a big bar in the middle and places to sit around there.Its a Rock n Roll bar with heavy metal/goth roots. Dont expect much foo fighters or Pink Floyd...Do expect Ozzy and Slipknot.

Man, if you go here for New years or any other special night dont bother. They cut the booze and they will take your cups. Their open bar is only one novice bartender. Honestly go when there is no rush like every other review on here.

Been here a couple of times. No frills bar downtown that plays metal music. Drink prices are what you would expect for a downtown bar. Great place to chill out at the bar or the booths that they have there.

I am sad to say that I was really disappointed in this place (and I’m easy to please). I stopped in on a work trip (alone) because I read the reviews and wanted to experience something cool on my one night in town but I felt like a nuisance to the bartender. There was no interaction. No thank you/have a good night when I was leaving. I couldn’t drink my drink fast enough to get out of there. Another guy came in and sat next to me and the bartender was infinitely more friendly to him (maybe he knew him, I don’t know). Drink was cheap, so that was decent, but I’ll always pay more for a good experience which, unfortunately I did not have here. Not worth the walk in the rain... bummer.

Dark environment, open area. Smoke lounge is included, so can drink and smoke. Friendly staff and a decent selection. Was able to order food and eat it at a booth . Staff are well read up on and know how to make their drinks.

Definitely has a rough, grungy vibe, in stark contrast to the friendly, cheerful bartenders. Despite looking like an underground music venue (intentional) the bar and bathrooms were clean and in good repair. Dont judge a book... Only complaint is that the juke box was busted, and the music was slightly on the popular side of hard. Some classic thrash or death metal would have made it perfect. Also, everyone was cheering for the home team (Astros that night), which always is awesome.

We were in town for National Athletic Trainer Convention. This was near the hotel within a short walk. Found a gem of a place here. Veronica and her teammates did a super awesome job! I never had to wait to place my order. My final tab was accurate. The prices were not outrageous. I always was served with a pleasant smile. Needless to say if I am in the are again I am definitely making a stop in The Dirt Bar. Drinks were super cold and Service was awesome. The staff should be commended! The description of this being a speak-easy is inaccurate except that theres not a big sign out front,but that shouldnt stop you from swinging by for a drink.You might even impress your companion when you walk in and head up the stairs without hesitation as if of course you know all the hidden gems around town.Its fairly loud and they were playing rock music again, not a speakeasy but you can still have a one-on-one conversation.I think its hiding place on Mason Street keeps it as a mostly local haunt despite being smack in the tourist-vile that is Caroline St.PS They have oysters, which I was told were on point - no condiments needed.

I didnt ask the origin of the name. The atmosphere however is not dirty at all. No problem to pay the drinks with cards. If you want to escape the rush of the bar you can take your drink to the open space.

Good prices and service

My buddy took me here for a few beers after work one night and he had to drag me out of there. The food was good, music was great. This place is a great hangout!

Had no clue what I was in for, walked down beacause my hotel was near by. Was a little concerned because nobody was there. I saw candles lit and mysterious curtains hanging along the walls. Ended up loving this place. Was there in 2011 and havent been back but Im looking forward to the next trip. Awesome bartenders, great staff. Great music.
