A really nice exploration into Houston’s past. The tour is$15/person and the museum is $5 - both are less for seniors and children. The tour takes a little over 1 hr and gives a detailed look at 3 houses on the museum site.Overall, tour was well done and the homes are well preserved and furnished. The grounds are well kept and a popular spot for special events.

This place Sam Houston Park is one of the best and exciting get aways in the city of Houston. The historic homes are simply amazing. Being in the pacific area of Jack Yates and others preserved homes, take your mind back into the yesteryear. This particular park is in a nearby tranquil and remote area very close to our downtown library. Their is one Confederate monument nestled way back in a corner area. With that being said, let me say I am a black male who cherishes history (without knowing where we have been, how can I know where we are going) with a passion. Flying Confederate flags over & displaying monuments on federal, state and local governments buildings sites,...I disagree. But as far as people having these flags and relics in there vichles and on their private properties...is their business. Due to these things being part of their heritage, does this make them out to be bad individuals or should one hate the memories of their great, great, greater grandfather for being a Confederate Soldier? NO IT DOESNT! SOME OF THE BEST PEOPLE I HAVE MET IN LIFE HAD CONFEDERATE MEMORABILIA. When anything is used out of proportion it can create problems. As I lean back toward this park, I propose that all monuments of The Confederacy that has been removed from public lands should be placed in a place to preserve history. We dont want to relive history but, however, we dont need to destroy it. Put the areas of the Heritage Society in Houston Texas on your place to visit list. You shall enjoy.

Just enjoyed a delightful tour of the gallery and museum at the Heritage Society in Downtown Houston. Sheryl, the leader of the docents did a great job of providing information on the houses that are displayed and protected at the site. You cant get a better review of Houston history than by seeing the ten buildings on the site. Not only is the parking free, an almost unheard of delight in downtown Huntsville, but it is easy to get in and out of as well.Check it out. Its worth a visit.

Lovely collection of classic homes and churches. Awesome displays of turn of the century artifacts used by early settlers and freed slaves. I highly recommend the tour. Its one thing to see these structures from the outside, but youll be blown away by the interiors of these homes and churches. The tour guy was extremely impressive and his knowledge of the structures as well as Houston history make it worth while.

I was a little disappointed nobody was around and all the buildings were locked. However, it is still a great walk and I enjoyed everything from the outside.

Fascinating, educational, insightful, and eerie! Was a wonderful experience for the grownups as well as the kids. We toured the museum and three of the historic houses complete with furniture and artifacts of that time. Our young tour guide, Kean, was very knowledgeable and deeply passionate about the history and all the exhibits. Two thumbs up! Will visit again.

A calm oasis in downtown Houston makes for a wonderful afternoon getaway from the skyscrapers and traffic. Here you can find some historical old buildings and artifacts from the past.There is a literal oasis in the park that divides the modern park from the museum. Its hard not to get lost in the stunning beautifulness of the place. You might even learn a thing or two. Would recommend a visit at least once.

Great park with lots of well preserved historical buildings.

The museum is free, albeit small in size but hard to complain when its no cost. However the guided tour is $15.00 person (adult), is highly recommend it. Thats the only way youll gain access to the 9 homes sitting on the city property off the park. Its worth it since you really get plenty of information from the tour guide. Three homes will probably take about 1.5 hours, give our take 15/20 minutes. Really just friends on how many questions the guide had to address.

Fun worth the time!

We very much enjoyed touring the old homes from the 1800s and hearing the history of each one. Our tour guide Vicky was amazing.

Fantastic overview of local history. The docents are very well informed and the structures are well-equipped with period furnishings, many of which are original to the homes. The docents were patient with children and eager to answer questions from inquisitive guests. Group size was small. Highly worthwhile and certainly worth an annual donation to keep the society alive! $15 per adult, includes access to the museum (which my young children loved!)

Very nice place top visit. This is where to go to learn more about the history of Houston. The dossier was very knowledgeable of the houses and I learned cool facts about some of our founders. I loved the old maps. It puts into perspective of just how far weve come here in H-Town.

We missed our tour, so we just walked around and took the cell phone tour. Arrive early and spend a lot of time there.

WhiLe i was waiting for freedom over Texas to start this recent JuLy fourth.

Great exhibits, love Sam Houston Park, and their tucked away feel in the shadow of downtown.

Nice exhibit, it kept us dry and entertained on a rainy day. When the rain lightened up, we explored the park and did many of the cell-phone tour stops.

I stongly recommend taking the guided tour rather than just walking around and looking at the houses. With the tour, you get to go inside some of the homes.Our docent, Ann Michelle, was excellent.She is enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Ann Michelle is an architect as a profession so she brings that knowledge to the home tours in addition to the history. We learned a lot.

The history of the Jack Yates House and additional information about the Reverend was so inspiring for me as an Educator. It was so emotional.

Had a wonderful, interesting tour today with Rochelle. Great information and a very enjoyable time. Thank you!

Great time checking out the Heritage Society. You get to pick out of 8 houses which 4 interest you the most. The houses cover a pretty wide range of early Houston area architecture and home life.

A little underwhelming, but it was still pretty cool to see. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the inside museum the most.

The historic homes are all very unique. Not a dull thing about this place.

They need to put more effort into friendly and interactive guides and front desk people.Diaper bags are not allowed here for men or women with babies, per the front desk woman who yelled at me repeatedly.

Great free place to visit in Houston, you can learn a lot about texas and Houston in this place. Also you can see a different houses and urban design.

Yall should be open on a Sunday. Take Monday and Tuesday off (an idea). Sunday, like Saturday, is a day that many Houstonians have off and would benefit from this place being open when we are off from work. So, any updates from my feedback? This post and its reply state Its been a year. Thanks.

Excellent representation of Houstons history told through the medium of historic structures that depict how Houstonians lived during different eras. Our guide was a blast.

Well nice people and good to know about history, except, its not real. The houses have been moved from other locations and it have been modified.

So much history in one place! The staff was so knowledgeable and truly had a passion for sharing the history of Houston. Its such a hidden gem that you wont want to miss!!!

A must see when visiting Houston! Some of Houstons oldest homes from our contributing fathers were moved to this location on the site of our oldest park from 1899. Visit the museum while there for continuosly changing exhibit themes.
