June 19,2020 Friday. The Pennyroyal Area Museum is one of the best city attractions in Hopkinsville. It use to be a post office in 1915. Despite its small size, it is the only museum in Hopkinsville with African American history and Edgar Cayce exhibits. The $5 admission fee was very satisfactory. Hillary and Alissa, the museum staff, were very nice and helpful. I greatly appreciated the museum kit provided to me with pencils, postcards, a recipe card, and museum tokens to use. The museum is very interactive and child friendly. I love reading the weird and wonderful facts exhibits throughout the museum about the goblins, the Nightriders, the blackbird invasion, and Blind Mary. The Edgar Cayce exhibit was my favorite. I spent most of my time there. If you go to the museum, make sure to write on a museum postcard there. The museum will provide the post card, a stamp, and mail it for you. One of the unique features of the museum is the blackbirds flying all over the museum and perched on random places all over the museum like the ladies bathroom. Membership is $25 and gives you a year full of free museum admissions and discounts. I may seriously consider buying membership.
Great looking remodel looking forward to it opening up soon staff is fantastic
Great people, great message... keeping our history alive. I cant wait to see the renovated museum!
Everything was fine. We had a fun time.Good music and good people make for great fun. Food also good. HOPKINSVILLE need to have more activities such as this.
Unfortunately I was not able to get into the museum. Would have liked to have gone in, but not so much that I was willing to ride around in my scooter in the rain looking for a way to get in. A handicap ramp was not visible. Maybe it was and I missed it, but it was raining. Next time I am in the area, hopefully it will not be raining and I will be able to get it. So glad that they did have something on the outside of the museum that I was able to take a picture of though. That brightened the day, in spite of the rain.
So cute!!! We went to Hopkinsville to see the 2017 eclipse and stopped by this museum. They had sections for the eclipse, for a time capsule they were making, and for the little green men festival. They had a section dedicated to the trail of tears that was moving. Lots of history.
A beautiful, historic museum. Operated by a wonderful group of people. The Pennyroyal museum is a great place to spend an hour, with your family, or on a date, or even just by yourself. Admittance is only a couple of $ per peson, and provides some context and atmospheric details for the town of Hopkinsville. Alternating new exhibitions, and activities keep things fresh, so its a place you can visit more than once.
Its is small. Has local history. But people were nice. And Grandson loved old train set
Great inexpensive way to get to know more about the community. Great for kids 7 and up.
Got a lot of good history
