So grateful for all who served and remembering the lives lost during this tragic event. It was a really cool experience to tour and pay our respects. We didnt spend too much time at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. The USS Arizona is closed for maintenance but theres a free Memorial program which includes a documentary film with actual attack footage as well as a ride on a US Navy Shuttle boat to the Memorial. Tickets for the USS Arizona Memorial program are given out free of charge each morning on a first come, first served basis. There were plenty at 945 a.m. when we grabbed ours.It rained when we arrived but skies were clear again within 15 minutes. Dress appropriately. I didnt get sick on the shuttle boat but I will say I was dizzy for the following 3 days because of it. I regretted not taking a dramamine (I get nauseated easily- even in car rides). Our online $45 ticket included the Battleship Missouri, where the documents ending World War II were signed and the USS Oklahoma Memorial. We also explored the Bowfin submarine using an audio tour.Make sure you reserve enough time to explore everything! Everyone went with a tour guide on the Missouri, but because our time was limited, we winged it and went solo. We got there at 945 a.m and left at 130 p.m and let me tell you, that was us rushing. We didnt stop to eat or shop in the stores. It took about 20 minutes to wait for the shuttle bus to go back. You can snack on the nearby $6 hot dog while you wait, like I did. Overall, it was a great experience!Edit: I forgot to add I did stop at the jewelry shop. Opened a clam and found a pearl. Its located on the left side of the entrance to the overpriced store. Its $15, but its free if you buy your expensive newspaper photo after the tour next door. Or if you mount it, which I did on a white gold ring with a diamond. So beautiful and fun to do. But expect to spend about $200 and up to mount it on a jewelry (ring, necklace etc.) Ill post photos!
On the 66th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, a memorial for the 429 crew members who were killed in the attack was dedicated on Ford Island, just outside of the entrance of where the Battleship USS Missouri is docked. The USS Oklahoma memorial is an arrangement of engraved black granite walls and white marble posts. Not until visiting the Pearl Harbor National Memorial did I learn of how many total lives were lost on the USS Oklahoma, the one I always knew about was the Arizona because it was such a huge number. This is definitely worth a stop before or after going into the USS Missouri.
Nicely done memorial, steps away from the gate to enter the USS Missouri. Prices for refreshments are a little high at all of the memorials, but this is Hawaii and these are tourist attractions. It is to be expected. I suggest bring cash.
The USS Oklahoma Memorial is at the driveway entrance to the USS Missouri. It honors the 429 sailors who died when the ship capsized. Marble pillars represent the sailors standing at attention on deck.Plan on less than 30 minutes.
Somber place to experience some history and show your respect
So beautifully moving to attend the ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack.
Walking through this memorial kind of takes your breath away at all these young mens sacrifices for our country. So many lives were lost on that fateful day.
Its awsome
Great memorial for our fallen heros
Awesome national monument. The history of this ship and WWII are brought to life. The guided tour is a must.
Compared to everything else at Pearl Harbor, this was anti-climatic. Seems like an afterthought.
Excellent history and beautiful sights
My father was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the attack. It was just amazing to see thru my eyes, what he had seen thru his. Then there is history
The memorial itself was closed so they are running boat tours near it but you dont get the same effect. Even though its free, didnt think worthwhile. Do the other Pearl Harbor sites instead until the memorial reopens.
Have much respect for WW2 vets.
This is the only memorial to the Oklahoma. She doesnt have a marker near the Arizona where she originally went down, which is a real disappointment. The memorial was funded by a survivor of hers from the attacks at Pearl Harbor, so make sure to spend some time there in gratitude to Goodyear. It is emotional to see all the brothers who died together from many families. Do not simply walk past her. Stop and pay respects to her and all her fallen sailors. Well worth the time!
Humbling experience. Beautiful memorial located on historic Ford Island.
Nice place
Memorial is small, but visually powerful. A sobering reminder of the reality of that day, made better by its location in front of the battleship Missouri.
Spend the time and see everything Pearl Harbour has to offer. I enjoyed the whole day.
Much needed memorial to sailors lost.
Good place to click pics on the way to Battleship Missouri
Very educational Memorial that displays a very important of our history and must to visit.
This is a pretty awesome memorial but often overlooked.
Take time to pay respects at this beautiful outdoor memorial.
