We had the most wonderful hike with Alice and her cute as a button daughter a couple weeks ago!! Drinking delicious wine is one thing. Seeing first hand where the grapes are grown is something everyone should do and if you can, do it with Alice! She is a wonderful host. Her familys stewardship of the land is truly impressive!
These wines are the best!!! My favorite is always the one I have in my glass! Beautifully balanced Sauvignon Blanc and a very fun (and delicious) Rosè that came out this summer! The reds are beyond good! If you get the chance, message the owner and she offers a great hike/tour on the property where the grapes grow that goes over her family and the land. Very cool! Perfect variation to all the other more formal tastings out there. You will NOT be disappointed by any of the wines or by the wonderful wine maker.
Really adore and appreciate Alice and her creations, spirit and preservation of beauty here at Sutro Wine. Meeting Alice feels like meeting up with a good friend. A visit to the vineyards is a walk in a magical wonderland as Alice introduces you to each meticulously cared and crafted plot of vines, pointing out the microclimate and environment that cultures each wonderful flavor and character. Her investment in understanding the unique dynamic of each section is a testament to the level of comfort and flavor that her wines achieve.I definitely cannot wait to visit again, highly recommend venturing out and meeting Alice to learn, cherish and admire as well and cannot say enough good things about her wines!Grateful - excited and eager to return!
Cannot recommend enough the vineyard hike with Alice. It gives you a great perspective for the volcanic soils and everything that goes into growing grapes and making wine. Alice is so knowledgeable and amazing to see a woman owned business.
Fantastic wine on a special occasion or just at the end of a long work week. However, the best place to have this wine is at their Chalk Hill location. The scenery is beautiful, they offer a really fun vineyard hike, and you can appreciate the volcanic soil. Cant recommend this wine and the location enough. Pro tip: this is a WOMEN founded and operated winery!! #womensupportingwomen
Delicious wines and a super special place to visit with great hikes and stunning views. All on volcanic soil! Alice is lovely and extremely hard working, and that definitely shines through with Sutro wines!
With so many wineries out there, I always gravitate to ones with great stories, and Sutro has a fantastic one! Loved learning about Alices family - 5 generations of growers - and then she embarked on creating her own label to specifically showcase Bordeaux blends native to Alexander Valleys volcanic soils near Chalk Hill (Cab Sauv, Merlot and Sauv Blanc). Also love the vineyard hikes you can do on the estate!
