Great experience teaches all about real life past moments that our brothers and sisters went thru to provide a meaning of war and etc.
A Museum dedicated to the African American Armed Forces and the many roles Blacks/ African Americans Served their Country, during each War or Conflict and Non Declared Warfare. The separate military act did not flaw the proud appreciates Black Americans had and HAVE for their country The United States of America.
Outstanding historical memorabilias. Museum displays are superbly presented with the added touch in some instances of virtual presentations. All military branches are represented with highlights of members from the local and surrounding areas. Rich source for significant historical information. Buffalo Soldiers display is awesome. Should be on the must see places to visit.
Walking through the doors, I was enveloped by history. The USO building was originally used in World War II for African American military men and women. There were replicas of the original furniture placed around the lobby and 40s music piped in. I felt like had stepped back in time. Each exhibit had several short videos to watch about historic figures, were filled with artifacts and haf some pretty cool displays. Check it out!
This museum is an original USO that opened in 1942 for African soldiers during military segregation. It is a wonderful place to learn about past heroes and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during wars. In addition, highlights the many Hattiesburg and Mississippi locals that served in Armed Forces. The staff are very knowledgeable, professional and simply kind! Ensure you come by when its Storytime with a Soldier,A Must see and Visit road trip!
Great place!
Amazing little museum, friendly & informative staff, I am so happy Hattiesburg has this. Whether you live here or are visiting, you should see this museum!
Amazing place.
A great museum with extreme cultural significance.
Great place to visit and see the huge contributions made by African Americans to help the U.S. remain free and home of the brave!!!
Fantastic set up with a lot of important historical moments. A must see.
Wonderful History of of the African American military. Its a must see for anyone who wants to review all of the war.
Amazing. Wonderful exhibits. Informative history lesson. USO background priceless.
Critically important place. Everyone in Americas history is directly related to these and all veteran service members.
Took my son. Full of history. He learned a lot. The people working there were friendly and full of information. Loved it
Im glad this museum exists, especially in Hattiesburg, which has badly segregated neighborhoods. The building is neat, the staff is friendly, and the tour is free! Audio/video options are also incorporated.I do think the exhibits should be more straightforward about the struggles African American troops faced. One small panel describes a couple of veterans and their wives who were pulled from a car and shot by whites, but mostly the museum focuses on integration and speaks of racism in overly polite, generic terms.
Free, but wish for donations. Nice little museum to learn some history..it is not on a major road.. but easy enough to get to..
Very informative will go back next time Im in Hattiesburg. When you go please be sure to donate to the museum.
