Gilmore Metropark is best in the spring whens the marshes are salad with water. There is a loop trail that takes about an hour to complete. You walk through the marshes on a raise berm. There are a bunch of power lines above so that is a little distracting and there are roads and trains nearby that could be a little loud. If you dont let any of that distract you it is a wonderful walk through the woods
Great spot for birding--saw a Great Blue Heron!
This park was neat. It was a good littke hike for my family and different from most trails we have been on. My kids said it felt like they were in a swamp. We saw wildflowers, turtles, beautiful birds, fish, a snake, and frogs. Wear water resistant shoes as you will get your feet wet on the floating boardwalk. Also, bring binoculars if you have them.
Very relaxing and beautiful park.
The lake dried up but still had a good hike and seen a dear ️
Great place for birding! Boardwalk needs some work
Great hidden little walking park
One of my favorite parks to go to!!
Nice park. Parking is a bit limited.
Beautiful park, although some trails are permanently or temporarily closed recently. The back trail along the canal is stunning!
The trails are well groomed. A better internet map would have made the walk easier but we had a great time anyway.
Gilmore ponds is absolutely beautiful its peaceful as can be nice body of water to fish as well as plenty of species of birds to try an recognize... About the fishing as I mentioned above there is a nice body of water with plenty of structure for the people looking to catch bass, now with that being said in my venture around the pond I could tell that due to the recent weather and lack of rain the water level has dropped somewhat rather significantly in which case caused quite a lot of the fish to be trapped off from the main body and parish an I guess I counted at least 2 dozen BASS, small catfish, Large Carpp, hundreds of bluegill and other baitfish which Im sure will definitely effect the growth of this pond an that truly is SAD... So if there is someone that in metro parks that reads this an can do something like stocking the pond or anything 2 help the ecosystem in the pond so tht is can flourish once again with the different species that were once in here please HELP...
Nice walk.
Interesting place. Nice to see once, probably wont be back.
Very relaxing, and what a geological Wonder in the middle of this city, definitely worth stopping by and taking a stroll around the boardwalk
I so badly want to give this park 5 stars! Let me explain. My husband and I stumbled upon it while traveling through about a month ago. We got out and walked just a little ways because it was muddy and wet and we were not prepared. (Didn’t mind the mud just didn’t have our rain boots) there were a couple sketchy cars in the small parking area which made me a little nervous. We couldn’t wait to bring out kids back to walk the entire trail around the water. So today we were in Hamilton visiting family and decided to stop with the kids and we made sure to bring rain boots. Once again a couple sketchy cars and folks in the parking lot. We are birders so we were excited to see the birds and wildlife. On the one side the pond was littered with trash and possibly homeless folks bathing. As we continued the area was much cleaner. We LOVE this park, just wish we felt 100% safe leaving our car In the lot.
Nice, quiet place to walk. Decent amount of parking. Very scenic walk. Lots of mosquitoes in the summer. Good for bird watching. Park Rangers frequent the park.
Meh
Great area for walking your dog. Has a paved trail that passes a small pond with lots of turtles when I went by. Clean, well kept. Porta potty. Limited seating areas. Paved trails are rough - gravel and mowed lawn but very flat. Good place to see local wildlife or enjoy nature.
Excellent place to walk and take in the scenery.
Nice place to walk
Great place for an afternoon stroll. Plenty of places to bird watch, too.
Beautiful and small
Grass needs to be cut
Very relaxing. Lots of birds to watch
This is an amazing park. Our dogs love to run and swim here. Yes there are ticks, but my dogs have protection. I just take any ticks off me. The Bird life, insects and flowers are amazing. A walk around the perimeter of the park is about 2.5 miles. I love this place, just wish it was closer.
My dog was super disappointed I wouldnt let him in the water. It looked disgusting and there was tons of trash everywhere. Come on people pick up your trash!
Good place to bird watch.
Small and seemed like not a lot of people visit
Bring your mudders if you plan on visiting the trails!
Its fun
Nice and quiet place to fish
Great park for birding. Saw a Wilsons Warbler and some Yellow Warblers, lots of waterfowl. I plan on visiting during fall migration.
Its a good bpond to fish from put a just catch and release them their be careful there are a lot of snakes thier
Excelen very fine
We were there last May. Our experience was not good. We enjoyed our little walk but our car was broken into while we were walking. I dont feel safe going there anymore.
Love me some good nature.
I didnt really see much here just look like a mud puddle long side the road maybe there was more to explore Ill have to check it out again when its not raining
Great park to walk when it is not overly wet.
Really pretty park. My boyfriend and I took our two dogs (Lab and Maltese) there to enjoy a walk. We were there for maybe an hour and we were all covered in ticks!! We know that spring is a bad time for them, but we found at least 30 ticks on the Maltese and my boyfriend and I had them inside our shirts, pants and in our hair! I have never seen that many ticks, even camping in the woods. It really ruined our perception of the park and we will probably will never go back. Unfortunate.
Nice little hidden gem.
Love this place
Nice trail, fun family adventure
Its a marsh pond park
Great place for birding!
Not much here, other than a short boardwalk.
Lots of trash strewn throughout the park and in the water. Has potential, but urgently needs cleaning up :(
Great trails
