Really nice aquarium store, wide selection of saltwater fish. Their freshwater selection more limited, however, they happened to have the ones I had been looking for! I’ve been searching for somewhere to buy assassin snails, Japanese trapdoor snails and honey gouramis locally for awhile and I finally found them. They also had Agassiz’s corys which I hadn’t even heard of and may consider later. All fish look healthy and are very fairly priced. I will definitely be back to get some fish when my tank is ready for them. This was the furthest aquarium store in Greensboro from my house but worth the drive.
I was there accompanying my boyfriend, who went in to buy a clown trigger. I havent been in many fish stores, but this one is by far the cleanest and had a great layout, and was just visually appealing. They have a wonderful selection of freshwater and saltwater fish, invertebrates, corals, and anemones, all of which looked healthy. The staff was very knowledgeable without being condescending know-it-alls, which weve run into before. They also have a large section with tank setups, accessories, and water treatments, testing kits, medicines, etc, so its a great little one stop shop. Definitely worth the hour and a half drive from where we live.
Nice aquarium store. Just got stuff for a simple setup but they stock a bunch of supplies for the more complicated and bigger setups too. Seems like a local business, feels better shopping there vs a chain store. Their website doesnt have inventory or prices but I took pictures of some of the stuff there.
The staff is amazing and truly want the best for your system. They make great recommendations and do not push anything on you. Prices are very reasonable!
We went to Triad Reef Critters on July 4th, they were extremely professional and a great help in setting up our new 55 gallon (check out the pic!) Everything came from TRC! My wife and I had to travel a few hours to get to this place so our hopes were high that theyd have what we were looking for and they did not disappoint. Well happily travel the distance again in a few weeks to get our fish here once the tank has stabilized. Thanks TRC!
Feel so safe with everyone wearing masks, staff and customers alike, and social distancing promoted throughout the store! The staff always answers my questions, and I enjoy the spacious aisles. Lots of nice coral and fish, and good selection of supplies.
Super excited to get my son a fish tank, and this store looks amazing walking in. Unfortunately we were given poor information, and less than a month later we are in crisis mode trying to save our last fish. One died and we asked what we did wrong, we were told it was the ammonia ( we tested that evening the levels were perfect). but they happily sold us a replacement with no help for how to help this next one alive. We made it clear we had no idea what we were doing and since then we have talked to a few other people about fish who are horrified with the info we were given. The biggest being the reason 1 fish had died and the other is on its last days (unless we are able to save it) is they sold us a known aggressive breed that had killed the clown fish. they reimbursed us for store credit for the aggressive one but not the more expensive one it killed. The wrong bottom rocks, 2 fish that do NOT get along even though we were told they would be great, too small a tank, told nothing about cycling water, told to give them way too much food causing the bad kind of allege and numerous other small things. We were so excited but this has become a head ache and i want to just be done with aquariums. we should have done more research on our end to begin with but really thought a store like this would give us valuable start up information.
Wonderful people and fish. They took the time to answer all of my questions and were extremely helpful!
Fresh water Dave is awesome, we are newbies and he took the time that was needed with us. Great place, will be back
Very clean and bright fish store. Have a good inventory of tanks, equipment, and supplies. Their coral collection is suburb and seemed to have most of the common reef fishes and some Ive never seen before. Deducted one star because they didnt have a pump to fit my Innovative Marine tank, none of the ones that would fit were even close to what Ive been using in gph. IM may have cornered that market with their all in one tank design.. and their specific pumps so since they dont carry IM. Maybe nothing they can do about it. All in all for fish corals and supplies great place to visit.
Amazing selection of fish and coral. The staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
I’m not going to be made to wear a mask . I drove 35 min to this store to buy two new fish for a new tank just started . I was gonna be a repeated customer. Older guy insisted I wear a mask. Like I can’t read the sign on the door. No one is gonna make me wear a mask if I don’t want to. If you don’t want my money then that’s fine I will not be back.
Fair prices, great selection and very helpful employees.
Great aquarium store! Excellent service, great selections, good prices.
Went in for the first time today. Setting up an old tank and needed some items/advice. Man things have changed in the last 15 years of reefkeeping! The staff was super friendly and we got asked multiple times if we needed help. We got a ton of great advice, the right supplies and cant wait to set things up tonight.See you guys again soon for some fish and corals!
The store was very clean and the tanks were too! There were plenty of staff members milling around for any assistance we needed. Will be back!
Our new favorite place to shop for all our aquatic needs! Super friendly and informative staff. David goes above and beyond to make sure we have what we need and all our questions are answered!
What a fantastic aquarium shop! Having grown up in the NY/NJ area, I was accustomed to a great deal of variety in aquarium shops that offer quality livestock with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Triad Reef Critters is the only shop anywhere near Winston Salem that foots the bill. If anyone knows of anything remotely like it, please let me know!
The employees are friendly and helpful.
Very professional and know what is all about tropical fish
Awesome fish and supply store. Both fresh and saltwater. Recommended for fish and coral lovers.
First time there. Very nice people. Nice products. Will be back.
The staff was knowledgeable for the most part and everything was clean. But god forbid your fish dies, theyll do everything not to have to refund you or give you another fish.I bought a pair of pea puffers and 1 of them passed away, I checked my water parameters and they were ok other than the smallest amount of ammonia in the tank and they told me to bring a water sample and they said my ammonia was high, my nitrates were high (they werent when I checked them before and when I checked them after) and they said my pH was off for the type of fish I was keeping. (They said puffers needed 7.2 when they need 6.8 - 7.0 pH based off my extensive research)Moral of the story make sure to test your water before you go and watch them as they test it
Very nice to do business with.
So I went here about two months ago. At the time I had just been given two large goldfish in a tank they had out grown. I went from a 10 to a 30 gallon and wanted to add a few more friends in. Wanting to get information about my new set up and recommendations on other fish to put in with the tanks I ended up here. When I started asking questions, the girl working went to go get this guy named DAVID. Rather than answering any of my questions, David was annoyed to see me. This old guy wanted nothing to do with me and wouldnt answer any of my questions directly on top of rolling his eyes with every statement he made. After telling me that there was NO WAY to house anything with a goldfish, he proceeded to tell me that he wasnt going to argue with me. As a beginner trying to learn about a new hobby I was pretty upset. No explanation passed they produce more ammonia and will kill everything else.Fast forward: I have a 30 gal tank with a canister filter circulation 100g/h. Ive got some lucky bamboo currently thriving, and guppy grass on the way. My fish are doing great (all of them bought from petsmart).Moral of the story, my angelfish, beta, 2 goldfish, rainbowshark, 8 bluebolt shrimp and pleco are doing FANTASTIC. And if youre looking for good people to buy from; theyre not at this location because they cant be bothered to answer questions.
This was one of the worst experience Ive had with customer service in general!! At first it was average, I came with tons of questions and a thirst for knowledge. The Freshwater Expert helped and guided me. I decided to purchase a Motoro stingray. Not to go far off the reason for this story, so to keep it short, I purchased a $180.00 fish, $5.00 food and $42.00 worth of sand. I got a stingray! fast forward, I get home, perfect setting, water, heater and pump! by the which was all new. I got the back story of the stingray before I got him home. He was special ordered. For some reason he was left at the airport for two days, then once he made it to the fish store they placed him in their tank. now that is three different environments in less than a week! Maybe 5 or 6 days later, I get him home. I was told that Stingrays are quick adopters in terms of water quality and I should be fine, again this is from the the freshwater Expert All that and he dies within 10 hours. I woke that morning quit perturbed by the situation had to wait 5 hours for them to open, I truly believe I was the first person to calling which I made exactly at 12:00:01 pm. This conversation lasted all of 2 minutes with 2 different associates on how it was out of there hands and I quote He was fine here. No one took in account the things Ive went through to get this fish, the lengths I went through. The one day in North Carolina it decided to snow, I drive 1.5 hours to pick him up. I live in Burlington and as you all may now, all it takes for NC to close down is a dusting. Annoyed and really heart broken I felt as if my purchase did not matter and neither did I. I said all that to say I do not see myself trusting the associates or buying anything else from them.
No one bothered to ask if we needed help with anything. When I asked someone a question I was essentially blown off. Not the first time this has happened. If you go in there, prepared to drop some money they will bend over backwards, but if you just need some advice or have a question they are not necessarily friendly or helpful. Its a shame. There are probably 2 individuals in there that are actually helpful, so now we are on the way to Reek Architects to spend the money we were prepared to spend at triad.
They have great variety of fish and coral. The employees are very nice and knowledgeable.
This fish store is a amazing hidden jewel, David and the rest of the staff helped me with every question, comment, and concern that i had while i was visiting Triad Reef Critters, the selection is amazing, the service is beyond amazing, and the store is exceptionally clean and very well put together. I will be back, and now a frequent customer of Triad Reef Critters!
Nice place workers was very helpful
WOW! Fantastic customer service and so very knowledgeable. I took my children and granddaughter yesterday and I couldnt believe how friendly and helpful they are. I HIGHLY recommend this store!! They dont have a lot of freshwater fish but the saltwater selection of coral is out of this world. They are going to be getting more freshwater fish and are happy to help you find ANYTHING else you are looking for. Great place to start!!
Great clean place! Great prices! Definitely worth the 2 hr drive. Will be back!
Has to be the best aquarium shop in the Triad. Knowledgeable staff and decent hours. Love TRC!
Great place to get supplies! Careful when buying livestock though. They get a lot of wild-caught animals that stress and die pretty quickly. If youre fairly new to the hobby try to stick with tank-raised live stock.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. If the person helping you does not know the answer, they will point you to someone who does. They even inspected a used tank I had purchased. Great bunch of folks here.
The only place I buy my livestock and corals from. They are knowledgeable and quite helpful.
Very helpful and polite staff.
Extremely expensive and way overpriced don’t recommend this place to anyone
I went to buy di water. Very helpful and friendly staff and my new go to for fish for my aquarium.
Got poor service been bad since they moved such a shame
Triad Reef Critters is phenomenal. Everytime i go, they answer all my questions honestly. Im new to fish keeping and they have never made me feel dumb for asking questions. They have helped me avoid many first tank mistakes and have helped me work through problems that have occured. Everyone is friendly and helpful. I had purchased a group of corys and 2 died right after getting them home. Called them up explained what happened. They had me bring in a water sample to test. Afterward they replaced the two fish that i lost (cause there was only trace amounts of ammonia on the test, everything else was normal) and gave me some great advice on my tanks. I will definitely be going back to TRC and would recommend this shop.
A very good selection of fish, aquariums, and accessories. Staff are very knowledgeable.
Knowledgeable staff. Great selection
Great selection wonderfull staff will go back.
Extremely clean, fresh smell, and fish looked very healthy and happy. And they had some awesome Bettas there. Colors Id never seen before
Very clean and well stocked. Every one there is very nice and helpful. A special shout out to salt water Dave!! I came in ready to stop or totally redo my tank. He calmed me down and gave a very precise set of instructions that made my tank healthy again without spending $600 that I was ready to spend to get my tank back. He is a super nice guy and is so willing to go above and beyond. I am a customer for life!!!
Triad Reef Critters exceeded my expectations yesterday while assisting me with what I needed for a new reef tank. Both employees I delt with were extremely knowledgeable and answered every question I had. They even spent the extra time giving me tips and pointers of what not to do as a new hobbyist. One of the biggest things that I appreciated is they did not try to upsell me. I now understand why this store comes so highly recommended. I will definitely continue to use TRC for all my aquarium needs!
Feels good to have a tank again! Thanks to Dexter and Dave from Triad Reef Critters for getting me set up today! They were fantastic! Very professional and answered any questions I had!
Awesome fish store. Actually the best Ive ever been to. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. I drive 1 1/2 hours to get there. Definitely worth it!
Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable.
The quality is wonderful with everything. Just wish it was quicker to get water
Purchased a large salt water set up. They came and installed which was great. We had multiple issues with product a few days later and the employees not only handled it quickly but also gave me cell numbers to contact them in real time for any issues or questions. Who else does that? The price is a little on the high side but you get what you pay for. Tanks are like boats, its not a question of whether you will have problems or not, you WILL have problems. I am happy to pay a little more to a company that stands behind their product and service. Well done Triad Reef Critters.
This has to be my absolute best saltwater shopping experience. Everything is clean and organized. Staff are friendly, approachable, and helpful. If you are in the Greensboro, NC area, this is the stop for you.
At first glance this store looks like a dream. But as I walked around I noticed the quality of fish was very poor... only a handful I could see really looked to be in good health. An example is their discus display tank, discus are meant to be round and full, theirs are very skinny, and are either stunted; or wasting away. The entire store is insanely over priced. I noticed some fish I could get at other stores for significantly cheaper... and in much much better condition. If you’re a salt water enthusiast try comparing the price between other stores for their fish... ITS CRAZY EXPENSIVE, some species even double the price of what they should be. Freshwater selection was very poor, and what they did have was also crazy expensive. It’s a beautiful shop, and well maintained, but pricing and health of their fish needs to be worked out to earn my business.
I have had a saltwater tank for quite a while now and when I heard about Triad Reef Critters, I decided to go check it out. In the past, I have always gone to a fish store in Charlotte that is great, but have been looking for another store that is closer and just as reliable as the store in Charlotte. When I went to this store and was walking around, it seemed to be great. It has a great setup, everything in the store looks clean and organized. The prices were fair and the fish seemed to be healthy. After speaking with an employee, he said he could sell me a Coral Beauty, which is a fish I have been wanting in my tank for quite some time now. The fish was not yet put out for sale but he assured me that it had been in quarantine and was a very healthy fish. I agreed to the fish after telling the employee that as long as it is a healthy fish I would love to purchase it. The employee said “Yes, it is a healthy fish, I would not give you an unhealthy one” then explained the no return/warranty policy. When I got home I added the fish to my tank and when I finally got a clear look at it, I noticed it was infected with ich. One side of the fish was completely covered in tiny white dots, which is clear to see in a tank but not easy to spot in the bag they sell the fish in. By the time I got a quarantine tank set up at my house and went to move all my fish into it, I noticed a couple of my other fish were already infected as well.I am very dissatisfied with this store, while the appearance of the store looks great, the employees are not good and their fish are not all healthy. I do not recommend this store and I will not be returning.
Great people, great service... Youre not a customer they want to make you part of their family
Despite being a clean store I have had severe problems. I bought a Coral Beauty, in which a coworker advised the other coworker helping me to not sell the fish due to it not being in quarantine long enough. The employee disregarded this and continued to try to sell me the fish. Only after I got it home, I noticed a large white polyp under its mouth. The fish promptly died a day and a half later. It started with the left fin becoming immobile and appearing to be rotting off. The next morning it was on the bottom of the tank dead, with the entire left side of it being completely white. I also noticed that the life rock I purchased on an earlier visit, contained white spiders and other hitchhikers I could not identify. I had not seen any kind of hitchhiker in my tank prior to adding the rock, but it miraculously appeared once I added the new rock. I am incredibly displease with the result of my two trips to the store, in which I dropped quite a bit of cash. Based solely on my experience with the Coral Beauty, I will not be spending any further money at this store. I just do not feel that supplying me with a quality product is what they are intending.
Everyone in the store is great to work with. If they dont know the answer to your question they find someone who does and stays to learn themselves. Great store, great people and great prices on excellent products.
I absolutely love this place! They have an amazing saltwater variety and tons of gorgeous fish overall! Their prices are pretty fair and they have financing options on the more expensive items such as tanks. The only negative thing I could say is that they dont have labels for the fish so if you want any info on them you have to ask. However, the owner/manager is super knowledgeable and totally happy to help! Who wouldve thought I could get a shark and 3 catfish together? Love it!
Awesome staff helped my buddy get everything for his red sea 250 to get it up and running in one night! Even stayed a hour past close to help us
There selection is ok. Bought a fish and 4 snails only three snails made it home I drove two hours one way to get there if your local tour good but dont waste time if u got to drive any distance cause the bagging process sucks there and there is no guarantee on them
Beautiful store
The is by far the best aquarium life and fish store I have ever been to! The whole place is clean AND organized. Everything is easy to find. Even if I couldn’t find something, that wouldn’t be a problem. The staff and owners are sooooo nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. They would help at any moment. I think every single person, working at the time, stopped to welcome me and ask if I needed assistance. They have more than earned a repeat customer and I’ve told everyone I know. They specialize in salt water aquariums but have an equal selection of freshwater life and tools. They also water, rocks, and wood sold in bulk.I loved seeing the buckets in the back by the rocks. I guess I’m assuming, but these appear to be for the new fishes coming in so they quarantined for a bit.Anyway, this place is a great choice whether you have a betta, seahorses, or anemone. You will be upset you didn’t go sooner.
Awesome variety of freshwater and saltwater fish. Very helpful staff.
Love the new store. Staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. Great selection, I am glad they now have more freshwater fish.
Good selection sold me fish with a parasite which later died
If you like salt water dish or just adult African fish its the place to see.$$$$$$
Love this place. Great staff.
We are new to the hobby. They were great to answer all of our questions and help us get started. They spent the time feeding the fish and showing my young kids around the store.
Friendly staff, very patient and go above and beyond. Best in Triad.
Great place with fantastic ownership and engagement of the employees. Unbelievable how just about everyone in the store desperately wants to be there. The best selection of fish and corals on a consistent basis that Ive seen. Mostly salt water at this time.
Expert advice and great prices on all things fish. Will absolutely return.
I absolutely enjoy walking into the new store every time I go. The staff is exceptionally knowledgeable and always has what I need in house. Prices are a little high but I feel the quality of the service and health of the livestock is higher than other local places.
Great place to get all of your supplies, salt and fresh water. A little pricey but worth the extra money. I enjoy just going to look at the fish.
Great store. Met the owner last time we went and he was very nice and patient with us. We kept going back and forth about which fish we were going to purchase. Go check it out!!!
Very pretty n clean. Fishes are gorgeous
This is top of the line . My rams and upside down catfish are healthy and well kept . The place is the epitome of fish stores . Polite knowledgeable funny.
Employees left in the evenings do not always give out correct information. Called to speak with owner/manger about the issue and have waited more than a week for a return call. (I have tried to call him twice as well) I have spent alot of money here over the last 12-18 months and am very disappointed...
The staff are wonderful. We are always greeted when we come in and they are very knowledgeable. The selection of live stock is great for both freshwater and saltwater.
Amazing selection of fish and plants. Well worth the drive from Winston-Salem. Money well spent.
Everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful! Great selection of fish for both fresh and saltwater. I finally found my pea puffers here!
Excellent local fish store/reef shop. I was mainly looking for freshwater, which they have a small section but was very happy with the knowledgeable staff and very impressed by the entire store. The prices were fair for the freshwater stuff and I will be back to support the business.
Very nice store. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. There is a larger selection of saltwater fish than freshwater, but all of the tanks are very clean and everything looks beautiful and healthy. I believe theyre working on expanding their freshwater selections. Good, quality foods are available in dry and frozen formats, and they have a good selection of equipment and treatments. I was verrrrrrry tempted to buy one of the beautiful bettas, but I talked myself out of it because I already have three. Its great to have a shop like this in Greensboro.
New to NC but not aquariums. Went to Triad Reef Critters to get my supplies to reestablish my aquarium. The staff is not only friendly and knowledgable but they are patient and helpful as well. The prices are fair and their selection is outstanding. Everything you could need to bring a piece of the Ocean into your home. Thanks TRC, Ill absolutely be back!
Great customer service beautiful displays, these guys know their craft. Very helpful. Beginners welcome.
Love the place...very clean, great service and the fish are awesome and well cared for.
A little pricey compared to other stores but overall nice selection.
Very nice people and awesome store. Very knowledgeable staff!!
The gentleman that helped me was very nice and informative! Plus, the fish are beautiful!!
Nice employees and nice set up.
Great place for aquarium keepers! Need more Cobalt!
Lots of knowledge for fresh and saltwater fish. Good quality and good prices
Great place great selection .. prices are higher but we need support our local stores..
Very expensive on their Fluval products...not much sold in the store for planted tanks besides lighting...order online or even Petco.
I highly recommend Triad Reef Critters for all you Fish and Aquarium needs! The staff are not only knowledgeable but take customer service to the next level. They arent interested in solely making the sale. They are invested in helping you find the best fit for aquariums, equipment, accessories and the right FISH for your lifestyle/home. They offer a diverse variety of products, with recommendations, to ensure you are well taken care of without making return trips for this didnt work items.Honestly, how many times have you gone to a store and the employees arent knowledgeable about what theyre selling? You wont find that here! And, when Ive had questions or had problems, they are quick to answer any questions and provide helpful suggestions and recommendations. No matter if you spend $10 or $10,000, everyone is treated with the same level of exceptional customer service! Many thanks to Dexter, JJ and the staff at Triad Reef Critters for going above and beyond to meet my needs!!!
