The best museum in Green Bay! Very knowledgeable and spacy.I have bought tickets online for 1 oclock to the museum and for 2 oclock the train ride. If you pay the museum admission the ride is just 2$. Wich is very nice.I got there at 12:20. Got on time for a movie Big boy. My advice: watch the movie before you go look at the trains. You will look at the exhibits with different eyes. You will able to understand the work and affort people put in building and maintaining those old trains. The ride was nice. Also, I was able to witness the wedding preparation in on e of the buildings. Beautiful place to have a wedding!
I expected more Christmas trees as its listed as festival of trees. Great gift shop . awesome trains, wish we could of boarded them instead of looking through plexiglass
Super fun place to take your kids when youre in Green Bay. The museum is awesome and the train ride is even cooler!
Ive been here twice, I took my dad, who has never been here, we seen the engines my grandpa Pete used to be a fireman on. Excellent experience if you are young or older.
Fun for family with little kids .Old Train with good long history. I wish city can (help ) donate same money for renovate train and wagon Paint only from outside .
Home of the Big Boy! A very informative collection of real steam locomotives and railcars. Fun train ride on the museums track. Very knowlegeable curators. AMAZING SELECTION in the gift shop!
Nicely presented, clean, good collection. Train ride around grounds in an open air car.
Visited 2 years ago and could walk through the trains. Due to the pandemic now you can only look through windows and plexiglass. Hopefully things will change and you can go through the trains again. Gives a better learning experience and understanding to kids of all ages
They have train rides and even a wheelchair lift so anyone can ride along. The staff here are so kind and the place is clean, even with the old trains that use coal and oil. They do a great job.
Seems like it would be more fun if it was all actually open. Not being able to walk through the trains was a disappointment- its not like we were given a discount for the less than experience. Staff at the ticket window were not super friendly. The train ride was okay. The train moved very slow and we made lots of stops. The tour guide on the train was very nice but he was hard to hear. Idk what is in the kids depot since it wasnt open but my 2 year old would have loved to see some Thomas the Train stuff. Supposedly there was a Thomas hidden near one of the trains but we couldnt find it :(.
Never knew there was such a national museum. Very interesting place to see. I highly recommend this place.
If you like trains and the railroad history check this place out!
It has a very nice collection of rolling stock, passenger cars, and locomotives the facility is nice and clean.
I wish we had read the reviews before making the almost two hour annual drive to the Museum this year. The website states:“Any areas of the Museum where it is difficult to maintain social distance or cleanliness will be closed.“ This information can only be found under the COVID tab and is open to interpretation. It does not make it clear ALL TRAINS and the Children’s Discovery Depot are off limits to walk through. There are some stairs placed near some of the trains so you can glance inside but your view is limited to a room or two. Their mask policy is obvious and clear. I hope the website is updated soon to also make this obvious to anyone wishing to visit.
What a unique collection! Not just the Big Boy 4017, but the Aerotrain #2, 5017, vinegar cars and a 102.Its a must see museum.
Pretty cool indoor exhibit they have. They are also very clean ....the big boy locomotive is pretty cool also and is in outstanding condition
We had a great time at the museum. We got to see alot of different things such as the Big Boy, caboose cars, snowplows, among other things. Had a nice little play area for the kids outside and we got to take a train ride. Very nice and courteous employees and not too badly priced. I would recommend checking it out if your in the area.
Great museum. Wish the cars would have been open for walk through.
Went for festival of trees. Would have liked to have seen more trees. Inside trains were well kept. Outside trains could use a little TLC. Learned a lot about train history and being inside the trains was a fun experience!
Spent my afternoon here. Loved going back in time when looking at our history of trains. The train ride was nice. Liked getting to walk in the train cars.
Great educational environment! Fun and family atmosphere. All trains of all sizes to see on display. Indoor and outdoor interactive environment puts you up close to the actual trains on display, able to walk through the cars, train engineeers area and caboose cars styles of various years. Friendly staff, clean and well lit areas.
We got married here! We had our very small wedding and reception here and Hailey is amazing to work with. She was flexible with all of our rescheduling, guest count changes and working with regulations due to COVID-19 and helping schedule with our outside venders. A lot of great history of old locomotives and restored cars, which make for some fantastic photo ops! Would highly recommend coming anytime of the year (with or without kids) as they change up their gallery and hold special events too. If you’re looking for something unique, memorable, with a nice and professional staff; look no further! Thanks to Hailey & Adam for all you did for us on our day!
Fun walking around and seeing the trains on display. Loved the train ride, too!! Union Pacifics Big Boy. Locomotive 1407 is HUGE!
Im going to have too say this right away. This is my favourite place in the whole world PERIOD. This place is full of amazing locomotives and related items! Id youre a parent with young kids bring them! If youre a person who loves locomotives bring yourself! I love this place so much that I have a membership and Everytime I go I get a pin. PLEASE VISIT THIS PLACE ASAP!
Very nice museum, we spent several jours exploring. knowledge staff
The family and I had a blast. My 4 year old son loves all things trains. So he was very excited to run around all the engines and cars. A very good line up, some that I have never seen before. A very nice surprise. Cant wait to visit again and bring my father along, as he does train derailment clean up.
Kids love it. The highlights are probably the Big Boy train and the General Eisenhower, but there are plenty of other worthwhile trains to see. The summer adds train rides and a more pleasant outdoor experience. Kids area is a hit with a long train table, coloring and other train related activities. Extensive gift shop.
I really loved this place. But apparently with covid 19 you cant walk through the trains. I get the restrictions, but this ruined it for me . I look forward to visiting again without these restrictions! I would surely give this 5 stars from before when you could walk through the trains.
Super fun for the kids. We missed the train ride but there a lot of trains and old rail cars to walk through.
I went there specifically to see the Gratitude Train Car. It is in beautiful condition. Nice job you guys. Sorry it was tucked way in the back, however. Many other cars.were on display but no train car car walkthroughs were available because of Covid. Too bad.
I visited last year and I had to come back while I was in town. It is well worth visiting. They had thomas the train there this time giving train rides my daughter just loved it we had a great day out there again.
Wish we had more time to spend there. Will definetly try to go back.
Trains are cool that have rare things there to. Good 2 hour ish to look at everything
Very interesting. staff was helpful and friendly
Went years ago and wow what a change. Family was thrilled and a bargain at $12 which includes a train ride. Great place to pack a picnic for. Loved that you could walk through so many of the trains and the contrast of the indoor area with the little bit creepy, but super cool outdoor area. Can make a great full day going here and nearby Lambeau!
What a cool place with some really well restored engines and information
Great place to spend an afternoon with your children or grandchildren. Dont miss the train ride! It is well worth it.
Wait till Pandemic is over... interesting museum and definitely worth visiting but theater is closed so no movie and trains that you could normally walk through are closed and you can only look into them.
Husband enjoyed it. Gift shop should have had you trains but didnt so I could get for my husbands train table.
Nice place for a visit. If you have children theres a outside playground. We visit here every year. Cost to walk through the train or take a ride is only a few dollars.
My Goodness. I was in Awe from the history of the and the train ride. Wonderful customer service and COVID 19 complying staff. Just great.
Really cool museum with many well preserved train engines and cars. Very impressed. There is also a playground area, kids museum area and large gift shop.
Fun for the kids. Great info for all train lovers
Id totally live here, but I forgot a phone, so here is a modern locomotive somewhere else.
A very open and self guided museum. Allows you to actually climb in the trains and really feel like you are experiencing the history. Try to go when its warmer to enjoy the outside portion in comfort.
This museum is great, we really enjoyed our visit. This is a good place to visit for both kids and adults who like trains. Its worth going just to see the Big Boy, which is inside so its still in pretty good condition.
It’s a good place, we take the tour on the train and then wonder around the exhibits and trains. If you like trains you must visit this place, and if you’re in Green Bay, WI this place is a must visit.
Pretty cool little place. Loved the history lessons about porters. My kids love trains and they loved the museum - even if most of it was geared towards adults.
Great collection of historic trains beautifully displayed. Only gave 4 stars because the theater was closed for repairs and train ride was closed for winter. Will be back FGor both this summer.
We had a great time & our youngest went nuts once he realized where we were! Well definitely be back!
Absolutely loved this place, any train enthusiast would greatly enjoy it
I was awed by the size and diversity of the rolling stock here. Much of the museum is out of the weather which makes planning a visit much easier. Our favorite exhibit was Big Boy followed closely by the Pullman car display
My fiance is *obsessed* with trains, and he was super impressed. He especially loved seeing the Big Boy. We both loved getting to go inside just about all the trains so we could see what it was like while they were running. Climbing the tower was great, too! Fun for all ages and levels of interest in trains :p
Impressive machines! Kids (and I) were disappointed that you cant walk thru the trains though and I believe still had to pay normal rates.
I had a great time. Very rare train collection at museum.Big Boy is a gem to look at.
Always a great place to visit.
Historical steam locomotives and much more. They had some awesome restorations of an impressive array historical steam locomotives and period passenger cars. It was worth the trip just to see Big Boy and General Dwight Eisenhowers Allied Command Train from WWII. WOW!
Underrated museum. Great staff. Fun events
Great museum, I used to go here when I was little! This past summer I had the opportunity to stop and explore the trains once again! It was a awesome experience! Make sure you also take a train ride!
What an amazing Museum for the train lovers in your life! My son and I spent the day exploring all the trains. I loved that you could go in the trains and not just look at the exterior!
Variety of displays, childrens area, short train ride, lots of history and ability to see inside of many displays.
Great evening w/ our Granddaughters enjoying the Polar Express for the Holidays!
This is a nice resource for the Green Bay area. Keep in mind that many cities have railroad museums and the “national railroad museum” does not rank at the top of the list. I prefer the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth. The Lake Superior Museum is attached to a very historic depot built in 1892.
Went there for rails and ales. A lot of good vendors but always more impressive is the display of trains sitting inside the building. The train yard outside was closed but in the past it has been a very good day adventure. Especially for kids. If youre in the Green Bay area with kids, they will not be disappointed. As an adult with appreciation, you will be completely in awe.
The journey and evolution of trains can be seen and enjoyed here.Dont miss the Festival of Trees during the holidays.
I don’t really have any interest in trains, but my kids do. We took them here and I loved it! They have lots of old trains you can walk through; it’s like going back in time. The outdoor train ride around the museum was well done and informative.
Friendly staffing and great historic pieces of material.
One of the most Pleasant Railroad Museum experiences you could ask for. Full of informative railroad history.
This was a great family trip for us! Amazing collection of locomotives and passenger cars. The kids loved the train ride and especially went crazy at seeing a real live Big Boy! Well worth the visit!
Historic, train rides available, and nice views from the observation deck!
My grandma use to take me here when I was a kid now she came with me and my son. It was a great experience coming here with her again and this time was extra special since it was my sons first time. We each bought a book for him in the gift shop to remember his first visit there.
Its a great fun place
Nice place to visit, it has many exbhist to look at
This place was awesome! I am not a train guy, but my 22 month old son loves Thomas and Friends, so I thought he would enjoy seeing real trains up close. There is an indoor play area for kids with toy trains and exhibits. We took the train ride around the grounds and the conductor explained all the historical significance of the train engines and cars we passed by. There are some trains indoors which have been restored. You can walk around in them. I was impressed by the Big Boy steam engine. It is a great time for all ages.
Awesome museum! A lot to see! Wish I had time to ride the train.
Great collection of trains and information. My family enjoyed getting to walk through all the types of trains they had. Only thing that would have made it better was heat in the outside trains. They had a cool kids area as well which was warm sonwe saved that for last. Great educational area!
Its a great museum tomorrow learn about the railroad. The kids of course just love the trains and the ride but there is a lot of information that adults can enjoy.
For $5 bucks, this place is amazing. If you love trains and you are in the area, must check this out.
Really cool place. Can get up close to the trains. Even get aboard some. A lot to learn. Great for kids. My own had a great time
Great place to visit, all year round!
My children and I look forward to visiting this place every year. So much fun for the whole family. Love the train rides and the history.
Limited in that it was to much for 3yr old grandson. Very much enjoyed the train ride and he liked the childrens depot even though a couple of things didnt work. As adults, wish we had the ability to stop and read information on the trains that are there. Will go again...when grandson older!
My family and I really love going here. The museum is very extensive and you can actually board many of the trains. You can even take a short guided tour on a working train. Well worth it.
Lots of interesting trains and lore. Wish they were still with us...
Great museum! Lots of cool trains. You are able to walk through or into about 20 trains. All were well restored except one. The one that wasnt restored was the coolest because I was able to see the original seating and other such things. They also have a very impressive observation tower from which I was able to see the whole museum and a good part of the Fox River. They offer a cheep but fun train ride of 2 miles with an announcer giving history as you ride. Fairly cheep and definitely worth it. You could probably spend 2-5 hours here easy.
Great place to go if youre interested in trains. Only comment would be that it would be nice to clean the trains every now and then. They get dusty on the outside a lot and even just hosing it down with water would help to make it look more presentable.
My kids love the trains and playing Engineer, Conductor, or just being a passenger on the trains. They will spend hours in the kids depot playing on the wood trains or putting the life size puzzles together. Its a great place for all of us.
Really a 3.5 score. Some of the displays are nicely maintained while others need a lot more restorative work. The available train ride is okay for small kids but not worth the extra couple dollars for most adults as it is simply two laps around a half mile loop. A Big Boy is one of the highlight displays well maintained while a less well maintained GM Aerotrain, one of only two in existence is a nice surprise.
This is a must see place for all ages. I enjoyed and my great granddaughter did too. We are planning another outing in June.
We ended up loving this place so much we became members! It is a great deal!
Nice museum. My wife and I spent 2 hrs there. The Big Boy is there too.
Really great place to check out even in winter. We got to go in a bunch of the different trains and the whole family had a fun time
I didnt realize how many different railroads and trains this country had. Walking through and around these great achievements fills a person with awe and wonder. I didnt think it would be as interesting as it was. Im glad I went I think you would be too.
We went to Thomas the train. had blast. Cant wait to come back and see all the awesome trains.
Nice museum and a small informative train ride. Little run down but hopefully funding will come through for future renovation.
Great time! Interesting
Want to stand where Dwight D. Eisenhower stood? I knew it would be interesting. I had no idea it would be breathtaking. I literally gasped audibly when I walked in... and Im not even into trains.
Been here a few different times now, each time for a special event going on. First time was near Halloween for their pumpkin patch picking event. It was a lot of fun and very well done. We did go very first thing in the morning for that one so it wasnt super crowded on the train ride or really that crowded inside. By the time we left a few hours later the parking lot was completely full.
Impressive collection of retired trains cars and engines. They have a ride on a real diesel engine train. There is 85-foot observation tower you can walk up. You can walk through a lot of the cars. There is a kids building and outdoor play area with picnic tables. The whole family enjoyed it. Allow 3-4 hours.
