Cross Orchards has a fabulous farmers market Wednesdays and Saturdays in the morning. Its a real farmers market with local produce stands. The Cross Orchard museum is nice for kids, its small and focuses on the history of agriculture in the area.

Wonderful way to start off the year with a field trip back in time. The whole group enjoyed themselves and the knowledge they now have about 1800s- way of life.

EVERY visit is like a journey through time! We love all the museums in town but we have the most fun at this Museum! The Tower is a great treat and the views are good 360*. The school room, the plane and the stage coach are always the favorites!

The website States they close at 4 but when we pulled in at 2:45 they said they closed at 3 but still wanted to charge us $10 to get in. Informed the man at the front that their website says 4. He said thanks Ill take it into consideration. we ended up leaving because they wouldnt let the kids walk around for the last 15 minutes even though we drove all the way down there and their website says 4

Our family loves visiting Cross orchards. They have the original buildings from when it was a huge orchard with packing sheds etc. Bunk houses where one of the curators bakes cookies on the original wood stove. The curators are very informed and make your visit fun and educational. There are still some apple trees on the property and they hand squeeze fresh cider. Theres even a black smith occasionally making horse shoes etc.

As far as museums go it is small, but it is packed with great historical information. Grand Junction is an interesting area and this museum is filled with exhibits. The staff here is also amazing. On a whim my wife asked a research upstairs if she happened to know if she could find any information on her family - it turned out the researcher had land deeds and even more that once belonged to my wifes great grandparents. If you are a resident here this place is a must see. Its kid friendly, and has a small gift shop as well.

As far as Museums go, this is not a highly curated experience. If informational signage is something you require, you will probably be disappointed with a good deal of this facility. That said, there are some informational plaques, and the grounds and buildings are positively full of interesting equipment and artifacts from a bygone era. I had a great time just touring around and visually examining everything, especially the extensive collection of antique farming equipment. Definitely worth a visit, but it would be nice if they could get the funding to spruce up some of the exhibits, and get all of those cool old tractors out of the elements and into a proper building.

One of the many great options across the Western Slope to immerse yourself in Colorado history. Much needed when my family and I relocated from Oklahoma. Lifelong Coloradans should also see what they may be missing out on!

We thought this place was wonderful. The staff was great, friendly, knowledgeable. All volunteers in period dress. You can go through at your pace. Look at antiques and explore the buildings and talk to the staff. You can breeze it all in an hour but could linger for 3 or more.
