A very cool place to visit with lots of displays. Ticket counter and security were very friendly and helpful. There is a Firefighters museum next door which is convenient. Plenty of free parking. It was fun to take a step back in time and see these amazing instruments of flight up close. I highly recommend this museum.

Im not an aviation enthusiast, but I had a great time at the museum. The information presented and the airplane models were incredible and helped me learn about the history of aviation. Mr. Joel Friedman took the time to explain the various exhibits and tell us interesting stories as we walked through the museum. It was a very enjoyable time. I would definitely visit again.

Aside from the fact that Im an aviation junkie, this museum is very informative and the staff is super friendly. Theyll steer you towards areas where you express interest and they have the knowledge to explain about the artifacts that you want to look at. You might even get an amusing anecdote or two.Definitely one of my favorite places on Long Island.

This is an open museum where everyone can get involved with great display of planes and space craft. Lots of history and a very informative staff and an attached firehouse exhibit. Plenty to see for everyone, from vintage planes flown during various wars, banners and plaques commemorating famous flights. Theres also an I - Max theatre and a cafeteria located within. Kids and adults will have a great time.

Good for kids. There is a childrens play space bear the entrance and there is an extensive exhibit hall. The second and third floors dont have much. The entrance and exhibits are wheelchair accessible. There is also a dining space that seems to sell food but did not use that. There is also lots of parking on premises. I would recommend this place if you have children and an activity. Adult tickets are $15 each. Some libraries have passes that you can use so its free admission if youre a resident in Nassau County.

They put the models in a chronological order from the air balloons to the space shuttle. Great museum with the opportunity to watch the learning movie at the planetarium. Ive been to a few aviation museums around the country and this one can compete with some of the larger ones. Even if your kids arent that interested in airplanes theyll still have fun there. Lots of cool displays and cockpits to sit in. The arcade is one thing alone Id go back for, being that it is all vintage arcade games and old video game consoles. It takes me back to the 80s.

It was really fun. Their was fun things for the little children, like building blocks, and going inside a mini spaceship. While it was fun, you get to learn alot of stuff too. Their was also a theatre. It wasnt a normal one though. The seats were slanted, so it made it feel scary. In theatre, their was a round ceiling and on the ceiling you get to see the sky in a close up image. It was pretty cool too.

Ive been to a lot of aviation museums over the years (thanks dad!) and this one is up there with the best of them. Its very Long Island-centric as you would expect but the sheer amount of aircraft and the variation is very impressive. The staff are very helpful and insightful; willing to share information and have a chat. The thing I enjoyed the most was Just how close you can get to many of the exhibits - we were even let into a couple by the staff that were sealed off. You can touch many of the things there too.It has a gift shop that is reasonably priced, although not as varied as some and although I never tried it I am led to believe the cafe is rather good!

A nostalgic experience for me to revisit this place. I came a few times when I was younger and although part of the museum exhibits change, it is a great daytime fieldtrip to take with friends, students and family alike. I highly recommend the planetarium/ dome theatre, they have a open cafe area to sit and eat (with a selection of food/drink/snack thats not overpriced, considering its food on-site), and the museum store has nice gadgets, science toys, souvenirs, and miscellaneous for children, youth and adults alike. I highly recommend if youre looking for a peaceful and learning day trip.

First time here. Had no idea how much early aviation history happend on long island. I knew about Grumman and republics contributions during WWII, breaking the sound barier and beyond. But long island played a huge roll in aviation history going all the way back to the Wright brothers. It wasnt a coincidence that Lindberg chose to fly from here, most test flights happened here. They have senior citizen volunteers that can answer any questions you might have. Check out the movie theater, sit as high up as possible for best view. Its worth the 8 bucks.

Not the easiest museum to reach from LIRR Westbury Station, and even more difficult to return due to transport issues - taxis dont stop there. But an interesting, if small museum. What it lacks in numbers of aircraft is made up for in the well-laid out display areas. It was great to see a Thunderbolt, Wildcat, F-14, A-10 and an Intruder among the exhibits. An unused lunar module, LM-13 is on display. Would have been an extra star if they had more exhibits. Ticket price on date was $15.

Took my toddler son there today along with the firefighters museum located next door. Really great place and if you haven’t been there before plan on visiting both museums since they are almost in the same building, in fact if you go there with kids they are going to spot the airplanes from inside the firefighters museum and want to go inside. The kids love to climb on the fire trucks and play with the costumes. The air and space museum is the same with a much bigger display and it was humbling to stand almost on the very spot so much of America’s history took place. My only complaint was the fact that throughout the air museum there was an assortment of coin operated video arcade games and although they were all aircraft related I really wanted a place I can take my son for entertainment without electronics and to absorb his surroundings, as soon as the kids see the video games they run right to it and ignore the great parts the museum has to offer. I would still highly recommend this place for people of all ages.

I was holding one of my sons to prevent him from going in on our way out, but my other son ran in while I was holding him. The woman at the desk saw this and had another employee come and tell to leave. She wasn’t nice about it at all! I was obviously struggling to contain my twins and was having a rough time by myself. I was in tears, and the employees saw this. They accosted me anyway.

Knowledgeable Docents, that is, volunteer tour guides make this Museum come alive! Each tour of the eight galleries are customized by the Docents, taking into account the age of the visitors, including children. You can learn as little or as much as you wish to about any of the exhibits and subjects represented by the exhibits. It is a good place to spend the entire day or just a short time, returning another day to see the exhibits that you did not see on that visit. Learn about the considerable history of Aviation that was and is a major part of the history of Long Island! They even have an actual Lunar Lander, that was part of the Apollo program! It is one of only two such spacecraft left in the world!

If I could rate less than 1 star I would. Just came back from a Winter Overnight with my cub scout pack, there were 4 packs in all for this sleepover. It snowed overnight and the temps were freezing, THEY SHUT OFF THE HEAT IN THE MUSEUM!!! When we went to bed it was very comfortable, maybe around 72 degrees. Then I noticed it started getting colder and colder. Eventually by 1am it was probably about 50 degrees in that hangar (the part of the museum you sleep in used to be a hangar). Let me tell you, I would not let my dog sleep in 50 degrees, I dont know how they get away with it. I didnt sleep the whole night. These people are cheap crooks, the city should slap them with a citation every time the temps drop below 65 and there are people, including many children, sleeping overnight in there. At 6:30am I grabbed our things and we ran out the door, they can keep their bagels and coffee. Save your time and money and pursue other ways your scouts can have fun and complete their electives and so forth.
