Shineh Art Studio has been the best art experience of my life. Before attending, I enjoyed creating art, but had little confidence in my creative abilities. Shinehs expert tutelage has taught me not only artistic technique, but allowed me to explore different styles in various mediums. Through portfolio reviews, weekly exercises, and figure studies, my skills have grown in leaps.Shineh herself is one of the sweetest, most supportive and compassionate teachers Ive met, and the class atmosphere she cultivates is warm and inviting. Even students who might be shy will feel at ease here.My only complaint is that I wish I had started earlier! One year was not enough.
Wonderful instructor, I have learned so much in such a small amount of time!! Attending class was the highlight of my weeks!
During my time here at Shineh’s I picked up more than just the fine arts. The educator offers well-informed advice and is serious about each student’s story in their art path, but the educator is also very nice and compassionate. Shineh’s Art Studio is unique in that the art setting is well tended; the interactions with other students that build encouragement overcomes competition; and attending each class always invites an exciting challenge but never a dread. Each session at Shineh revitalised my passion. Each session was something new, something unique, in that we always had different mediums and methods of ideation that gave us the realisation that we could achieve more.Without Mrs. Yoon’s insights, I wouldn’t be able to reach the gold medals in national competitions and the bountiful scholarships that secured my place in college. I can’t thank SAS enough for the firm foundation it has set for my future forward!!
Learning under the guidance of Mrs. Yoon has been a such a privilege! As a student at Shineh Art Studio, I have grown immensely as an artist. I learned to form depictions of personal and conceptual messages, and these pieces have been recognized both regionally and nationally.Mrs. Yoon not only helps students build foundational skills, but she also offers students the opportunity to explore college-level projects and activities. She has great flexibility and gives personalized instruction for each student. For these reasons, Shineh Art Studio is a warm and welcoming environment for all artists, from beginners to portfolio-prep artists.Mrs. Yoon also exposes students to diverse selection of art medium, shaping her students to become well-rounded artists. In addition, she gives students the extensive freedom to explore their own ideas as she also points out areas of improvement.Overall, learning with Mrs. Yoon has been an extremely rewarding experience, and I highly recommend the studio!
I can sincerely say that I would not be where I am without Mrs. Yoons passion, guidance, and trust. It has been 5-6 years since I graduated from her studio, and I just recently graduated from RISD but I still remember her teachings as it was yesterday. If you have a vision or a technique that you want to achieve Mrs. Yoon will be there right beside you helping and guiding you until you surpass that goal. Also the range of art she teaches are incredible. She can teach young children to upper high school students preparing for professional art careers or art colleges. Her teaching is unique because she is not obtrusive. She is not bias to a style or an approach when it comes to art, she cares about each students perspective and has a fiery passion to see them grow.I am proud to say that I am her student and excited for so many other generation of student to come :>
If you’re serious about studying art in college, applying to art school, or just improving your artistic skills in general, Shineh Art Studio is a fantastic place to do so. Going here really developed my foundational skills in addition to my regular art class at school. The monthly figure drawing session helped me understand how to draw different body types and poses.Ms. Yoon is an amazing instructor who knows how to introduce students to new mediums while also nurturing their personal styles. She is able to rotate checking on students to give feedback and answer questions. There are also 1on1 portfolio review sessions given by representatives from the top art schools who visit the studio which I found to be great for getting feedback on my work. By going to Shineh Art Studio I was able to build a diverse and competitive portfolio which earned me a number of acceptances to the art programs in colleges and art schools. Also, Ms Yoon notifies students about upcoming art competitions to submit artwork for. The flexible curriculum allows students the freedom to choose what projects they will work on, whether it’s an AP art concentration or an entry to an art contest, she is able to assist them. There are also sketchbook assignments that students work on at home with a new theme each week. The unpredictability of what the students have to work on each time keeps their creative minds on their toes. At the due date, students bring in their assignment for a group critique which is helpful for observing other students’ styles as well as getting to know them better. The ability to meet other aspiring artists with a wide range of styles and specialties provides an inspiring and encouraging environment to do art. I highly recommend that any students who are remotely interested in studying art in the future to attend this studio.
Mrs. Yoons portfolio prep class helped me to grow and learn so much as an artist this year. From figure drawing sessions, to one-on-one portfolio reviews with visiting art colleges, to extensive preparation for art competitions, Shineh Art Studio is an amazing place for learning artists to practice art, prepare for college, and have a positive learning environment.I had always drawn on my own time, but since Ive started coming to this studio, Ive seen tremendous improvement in my work. With the help of Mrs. Yoon, Ive been admitted to multiple juried art shows and have put together a solid portfolio. I love coming to the studio every week because it gives me a space to really be productive in my work as well as a really positive environment among the students. (everyone is so friendly and encouraging :)If you are looking for a place to improve as an artist, prepare for college, or even just enjoy art, Shineh Art Studio is the perfect place to go!
Being a student under Mrs. Yoon has changed and significantly improved my abilities as an artist. I guarantee that Shineh Art Studio is the place to go for any student who is interested in pursuing art in the future, regardless of skill level.Mrs. Yoon is a patient, kind-hearted woman who knows how to talk to each individual student at a comfortable level and knows how to help them. Shes been nothing but a wonderful teacher through and through. In addition, shes always quick to respond to emails, texts, and phone calls - always alerting her students on upcoming events and notices such as competitions, figure drawings, or anything thatll affect the schedule.Everything that Ive done in that studio and under Mrs. Yoon guidance has helped me build a strong portfolio that got me high rankings in the Scholastic competition and into my dream art school. And for that I will always be eternally grateful. Again, if anyone is interested in pursuing art in the future, Shineh Art Studio is the place to go.
Small art studio yet appears popular.
Ms. Shinehs a great teacher!!! If it wasnt for her, I definitely wouldnt have gotten into MICA. When I first started her class last September, I was in a perilous state: I had never taken any extracurricular art classes nor had any art pieces for my portfolio. But through her pinpoint feedbacks and weekly assignments, I saw vast improvements in my art and creativity! Although I couldnt apply to many competitons due to my lack of pieces, Ms. Shineh has a wide range of contests and scholarships which she constantly encourages her students to apply to. Not only does she strive to provide extensive resources to her students (like figure drawings and visits from colleges), she also takes great care in adapting to each students personality and learning style. As such, her studio has a homely atmosphere, in which students are comfortable in letting their inner artist roam freely--no idea is too out-of-bounds!
I attended the studio for about a year. I started the summer entering my senior year of high school. I honestly wish I had started her classes so much younger like a lot of the other kids she taught. Just within that year I grew so much as an artist. Shineh is an amazing teacher. She is very encouraging, patient, sweet and always makes you feel good about your piece. She gives very insightful critiques. I learned much more from her than my high school art teacher that I had for 3 years. Her classes helped me improve art pieces and create new ones for my portfolio to apply for art schools. School of Visual Arts and MICA even came to visit the studio and gave me portfolio reviews the Fall before applications were due.I applied to SVA, MICA and Ringling and got in to all 3 of them. I am so grateful to Mrs. Yoon for helping me with my portfolio. Shes the best! I am now a junior studying Computer Animation and Visual Effects at the School of Visual Arts.
I loved it at Shinehs! Ms.Shineh is a wonderful teacher that really helped me develop and push myself as an artist both conceptually and technically. Each project prompt provides the basic structure to practice technical skill but is developed in such a way to cater to each individual student. Through the ideating process and the back and forth personal feedback and critique I was able to develop the bigger picture thinking to make my pieces stand out of the box conceptually. It was always a pleasure to see my peers work on the same prompt but take it to so many different levels and perspectives. The fluid open ended structure of the curriculum of projects, and personal attention is unique to Ms.Shinehs studio - a mix of traditional class, personal development and career/college prep. Ms.Shineh introduced a lot of different competitions to her classes, brings in lots of different colleges to provide feedback and reviews, and overall brings a lot more to the table than the usual one time 8 week session styled classes one might find elsewhere. I owe a lot of my personal growth, AP and college portfolio to what I learned at her place. My art portfolio was a part of all my college apps, and given I got into SAIC, MICA, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellons design school with scholarship as well as Brown, RISD, Columbia, and UPenn....well, Id say I learned a lot. :)
