When I was here for my birthday wine tour, I had just left a poorly organized winery, and Messina Hof was our next, and final winery. I am thrilled to say that I had a complete 180 experience here. We were sat down and given menus quickly. We were able to pick the wine we wanted and there was a wide variety to choose from. Our server was absolutely fantastic and had the best attitude. The wine was delicious, and I would recommend Messina Hof to anyone wanting a good wine tasting experience.

Wanda and Garrett are amazing people. They took good care of me on my debut visit to try wines and learn of the place. The tasting room, wine bar and outdoor seating are all huge, open and welcoming. The wines are vast and variable for all wine drinkers likes. Great place to bring a group and take an afternoon to just chill out and sip wine and grab some lite bites. Walked out with 2 bottles of wine myself.

We just stopped in for a wine tasting, they said they were having them. They walked us out to the back patio that is covered by a tent like cover. Sat us down in the middle of a completely full, crowded patio in 100° heat. No fans, no cool air, no social distancing. We sat there for 15 mins and NO ONE came to help us. They were handing out cold waters. No one gave us water. They sat a table down 15 mins after us and helped them right away. Brought them cold waters and food. Thats when I got up and walked out. Im livid.

This was a great quiet little area. The room was very clean with an excellent bed. The staff left some tasty pastries and a complementary bottle of wine in the refrigerator. The winery was the best one we visited in two days. They had a great selection of red/white wines and the pours are generous. I cant wait to go back and stay there again!

Easily my favorite winery in Hill Country! Aside from the wide range of wines and the beautiful location, their staff is phenomenal. I’ve been a member for three years, and J.R. has consistently gone above and beyond to make every visit exceptional. Although he works upstairs from the tasting room now, he makes time to come down and say hello if I ask about him. When he is working an event, he’s adept at making everyone feel welcome despite the large crowds that are often in attendance. He’s also great about making wine recommendations based on my preferences. You can tell that J.R. truly cares about what he does. Check out their cottages for an overnight stay if you have a chance, but at the very least stop in for a tasting. There’s no set tasting list you are bound to, you are given tokens and can choose your own wine adventure.

Loved the room. I thought I was staying at a Wine vineyard. This property only has 6 rows of grapes. I feel like they planted them just to be able to say they are a vineyard. When enquiring about the grapes they said all there grapes are grown elsewhere. Which is fine, but I was expecting a Much larger vineyard. Also there was no communication that we would revive a free tasting or any type of communication on what the winery had to offer.

After going to the non family friendly snobs up the street, we came here. Nice, somber atmosphere where you can just be you and enjoy time out with the family. Excellent variety of wines and the staff is just right. Not in your face, not snobby, just friendly and full of smiles. We are locals and we will be back.

Worst wine tasting experience my family has ever had. Yvonne was not welcoming at all and when we told her that we are not experienced she reacted by being condescending and ignoring us during our wine tasting. We were going to buy several bottles, but after the terrible way we were treated we left. The winery was also very small and didnt have any good views. We will definitely tell all of our friends to stay away. We went down the road to Beckers Vineyard and had a much better experience.

It was more than we had expected. The cabin was stocked with basic necessities in the kitchen area and even had a fresh pastry waiting for us! This property was along the path of the vineyards. We have stayed in Fredericksburg 7 miles out with concerns with those drinking but staying here gave us peace of mind. With the AARP discount it made the cost of the stay equivalent to staying in town. Fredericksburg closes down in the evenings anyway and there is nothing to do in town.

I brought my boyfriend and his parents here during a vacation at the suggestions of several people. That combined with the reviews had me hoping this would be a great stop. Yvonne was extremely curt with us and treated us like an annoyance more than anything else, and all wed simply asked was how the tasting worked and what was popular here. We were ignored and passed over several times while she gave others very attentive service, made wine suggestions, and asked others what they liked in a very friendly matter. As someone who has been wine tasting all over the country I can safely say Ive never been treated so horribly at a winery in my life, not even when my sister and myself walked into Columbia Crest wearing PJs during a roadtrip, where we half expected poor treatment. (Spoiler alert: the wine and hospitality exceeded my experience here.) We were planning on buying a few bottles of the GSM but ultimately decided against it after this experience.

Great spot to try some 100% Texas grape wines. Many styles to choose from, we enjoyed some fruit forward whites, and juicy yet dry reds. Our server Michelle was great, tried to match our pallet preferences to their offerings. They have happy hour 3pm to close on weekdays. Select wines are $5 per glass, including some on draft taps. We enjoyed spending time on their patio sipping glass of red blend as the sun set over the onsite vineyard.

Lots of wines to choose from, assembly line atmosphere. The workers are nice, but dont spend any time with you due to the volume of patrons. Its loud inside and no seats at the bar. I only like sweet/dessert wines, and they have a decent selection, but nothing I wanted to buy. I had a nice time and the service was pretty quick, but this is more of a cattle line atmosphere than your typical winery. $12 and you get 5 tokens for 5 tastes, which were very healthy pours, and you keep the glass, so a very good value. The ports were also very expensive per bottle - $45 for most.

This was our first and last visit to Messina Hof:( We brought our staff from my dental practice to enjoy some wine for a birthday celebration. Shortly after arriving, we decided to play some music from our phones to listen to while attempting to enjoy poor wine. This seemed perfectly fine since you could barely hear it from outside our group of 15. Caitlin, the GM, was very rude about us wanting to have a fun time at their winery listening to music. The previous 2 wineries had music playing. This place is poorly managed and Caitlin needs to be doing something else for a career since customer service is not her thing.

My husband and I love to visit winerys in our Texas hill country! Our visit to Messina Hof was the first time and it was quite nice. Most of the employees were good with the exception of the man that was in charge of our tastings. This gentleman, while not rude, had a very dry personality. We are seasoned wine drinkers and enjoy trying new wines from different establishments. My husband paid for 3 tastings for the both of us to make sure we got to experience several.Honestly speaking, I was ready to leave after this man poured the third sampling. He gave very bad attitude in a job that should be very customer driven! He even walked away without excusing himself! He just left us standing there!!! Thank goodness that another young man, J.R.Sanchez noticed we were just standing there with empty wine glasses! He was charming and answered all our questions. Truly, a real people person! Thanks to J.R., we decided to purchase at least one bottle of wine, even after being upset at being ignored by the other mid-aged, dark haired, man! I mentioned to J.R. of our treatment and he apologised for the ill treatment of his fellow worker. Im sorry that I did not enjoy the varieties of the wine we sampled. My husband and I thought that they were much too young and needed maturing. We did buy a very nice port at the suggestion of J.R., so we could age in our cellar, but in truth, we just felt compelled to purchase a token something, because of J.R.s professional attention to us. I was also impressed with him when I offered to tip him alone only. We are generous tippers when we are given good service. He gave me explained how the tip jar works well, for all involved. He made it sound like such a great thing to be making money even on his day off, due to the structure of dividing all the tips, as one large pot that is divided evenly. Our hats off to your company, at having an exemplary, employee such as J.R. Sanchez. He saved the day with his professional demeanor and attention to customer service! Bravo! ***Oh and 2 stars off because of the rude treatment by the first man...

This is a highlight of the 290 wine tour. During the weekdays, this isnt crowded and there are more than enough staff to tell you about the wines without feeling rushed at all. Although I found their sparkling wines very sweet, some of the other whites were great with the chenic blanc as a personal favorite. Their reds are where they truly shine with a Paulo Bordeaux Blend and the Primotivo as knock-out successes. Dont forget to try their award-winning sherries and ports too. They have a happy hour from 3pm in the weekdays which offers 50% glasses consumed on site and it seems they have a full menu of different events at weekends that look enjoyable. The tasting costs $10 per 5 pours and includes a souvenir tasting glass to take home. Overall, if you are on the fence about Texas wine, give Messina Hof a try and you might be pleasantly surprised at their range.
