Enchanted Rock State Natural Park has perfected the camping experience. The camping sites fill up quickly, and you can book reservations 3 months in advance. For the summer/fall months at least, you have to reserve both Friday and Saturday night for camping. Everyone hikes The Summit at Enchanted Rock, which is quite the workout on the thighs, so you have to do it. But there are a lot of other trails to hit up as well. And you need to be up on one of the higher trails for a great overlook at sunrise and sunset- definitely worth it! I cannot say enough about Enchanted Rock.
Great place to visit, hike, take pictures you can enjoy the views. Small suggestion if you plan to do more than one hike or reach the summit plan to be on shape. Take plenty of water for yourself and if you have others with you like children have more drinks for them. One more thing I will recommend is mosquito repellent, an sun screen lotion.Hope you enjoy my pictures as much as my family haveBefore I forget please keep in mind that due to our new friend COVIT19 you will need reservations which will require you to be on time since you will have a 2 hour window to enter the park.
Great place. I spent an hour on the summit. Most people visit only the summit, but there are very nice trails there, try them out too ! There are many “sub” trails not documented in the map, I got lost now are then, but I use a hiking trails app so - Rut helped me get back on track.
Great hike. We went there a few hours before sunset, so while we were on the summit and on our way down everything was lit up with golden colors and the view was incredible.
Hands down, one of the best camping experiences Ive ever had. The staff was incredibly helpful and polite, the facilities impeccably clean, hot showers, well maintained campsites. It was a perfect trip. The dark skies made for some breathtaking star gazing. One thing to note is that the playground is currently closed due to COVID-19, but theres plenty of trails for the kiddos to explore. My son is 5 and had no issues at all.Its worth staying overnight so you can get some great hiking in first thing in the morning before that Texas sun is in full effect. However, there are plenty of shaded areas to rest in throughout the park.
Great place to camp, have a picnic and climb the mountain. The Summit trail is the most challenging since its pretty steep. Otherwise, its a great way to spend time outdoors!
Beautiful hike! Make sure to book in advance for the best chance at your desired time. Bring a backpack w/plenty of water. When we went over Thanksgiving there were only porta potties, the bathrooms were closed.
Breathtaking view from the top of Enchanted Rock. The hike is long but completely worth it. It gets very hot in the summer months so bring plenty of water. Creeks are dried up so there is nowhere to swim. There was a burn ban in effect so we couldnt have a campfire. For that reason i gave it 4 stars. The night sky is amazing. It was a wonderful experience.
This place is amazing! I visited for the first time recently and was awestruck. The only complaint, if you can call it that, is the large number of people there on a Monday morning. I really enjoyed climbing Enchanted Rock amd hiking nearby trails.
This is a wonderful place to hike around and see beautiful scenic views, or challenge yourself with varying levels of rock climbing, from beginner to more challenging levels. Great place for families and friends alike. Bring sunscreen and a water bottle and enjoy!
Great State Park about an hour west of Austin! Start early with the hike to the summit as it is the hardest and most sun exposed. Make sure to take lots of water and wear sunscreen. The trails around the park are nice too. We saw many hawks and other wildlife. Fun day trip!
Wonderful place to hike... remember you cant take dogs on summit...but they can go on loop trail... also loop trail on east side is closed and you get detoured via turkey pass...which is rocky and might hurt dogs paws...great place to visit...BRING PLENTY OF WATER
Enchanted Rock is a beautiful area and is a must-see if you are in central Texas. The summit trail can be tough depending on your fitness level but the views from the top are so worth it! I also highly recommend the far less traveled Loop Trail which followed a beautiful creek around Enchanted Rock. Wherever youre coming from, enjoy the drive as the entire hill country area is gorgeous.
Very good place for family outing. Camping sites available and hike is fun as its not very tough. The view is good at top of rock.
The outer loop is easy and great for a run or family hike. Full of beautiful scenes. The trails get a lot of sun so plan accordingly. The summit is as breathtaking as is the park. After rains the water flows through the streams adding to its beauty. The outer loop is about 4.5 miles long. Its a great place.
Another great state park. Nice open camp sites. Clean facilities. When its hot its really hot so check the weather and drink lots of water. Even in the heat its worth the hike up.
A Texas treasure. Be prepared for a steep hike, however there are multiple other trails available for those not wanting to climb to the summit. Excellent picnic areas so bring a cooler.
Wow this park was a wonderful family experience. We climbed up the Summit with our 2yr old and had lots of fun such a view all 360° around
This is one of my most favorite places to hike in Texas. The view from the top is breathtaking. It doesnt look like much, but if you are expecting a casual stroll to the top you might be in for a surprise.
I had such a great visit to Enchanted Rock! The landscape is so beautiful and so unique. I also saw a lot of wildlife - tons of birds, and an armadillo right near my campsite! When I go back, I would love to camp on the upper side of the campground, closer to the rocks - the campsites are a little more secluded. The other side has a big lawn and is great for larger groups or those with kids / pets who may want more space.
This is a great place to spend 2-3 hours. Try to go when its not so hot because there is very little shade. Of course make sure to do the hike to the summit for the best views. Wear sturdy footwear as there are a few rough sections.
I had been planning a trip for about a month, and decided to add this to my weekend plans. When I was setting up my plan, I had meant to register for Saturday, but I somehow ended up selecting Sunday. When I arrived and noticed that, I was very upset thinking I wouldnt get to do it (as I was going home on Sunday). The woman working check in heard me out, and since I had registered weeks in advance she went ahead and let me go in on Saturday. I was so happy with my experience at check in, as well as the hiking in the park that I am planning another trip in a couple of months!
Very nice hike with Amazing views!! Recommend as a must visit if in the area.
Nice climb. Steeper than it looks. Bring water and hiking shoes for sure. The view is unreal. You feel closer to the Earth when you get to the top.
Perfect as ever, every time. Family. Friends. Solo. It works for all groups. If youre peaking 60+ you may wish to plan your hike along the bottom of the Rock. Really nice flat trails there. Be warned: RESERVE your park visit 4 weeks in advance.
This has been an amazing state park experience. It is a great place to hike, and have fun with the rest of the family. The summit climb can be a bit challenging, and I would definitely suggest to pace yourself if youre not used to climbing up a slope. Since it is Texas, make sure to also take plenty of water and maybe some snacks or granola bars. Have fun everybody!
Amazing place to see!!! Make reservation ahead of time though they sell out quick!
Not much to do here, but if you like to hike, it’s a wonderful place to visit. It’s amazing to see such a massive rock!
Make sure you have reservations and plenty of water, some good foot wear and sun screen. Some paths are relatively easy to navigate others are geared towards a serious climb. Absolutely breathtaking beauty. Will be back
I love this place! It is the perfect hike and a nastalgic place for me as we camped here many times as a kid. Make sure to have water, a hat and constantly hydrate. Its best to go in the morning before the heat sets in.
50+ years in TX and I cant believe I havent been here. A real treasure.
A must GO and SEE! Beautiful place to hike for all ages, young and old. Several different paths, easy and challenging.
Great little hike to the top of Enchanted Rock Sunday 5th July, we had an 8:30am admission and it soon hots up. Take plenty of water and a hat as there isnt much shade up there. The 360 views are amazing !! Wish wed had more time to explore other trails but we were heading home that day ️
Been going every year since I was 2. Love the different skill level rocks that are out there and the caves. You can also get up and down the rocks pretty quickly if need be.
Loved it. Amazing, relaxing. It is a way for me to come face to face with God and His amazing creation. The views, the air you breathe up there, the exercise going up the rock, all of it was an unforgettable experience. I should also mention the work of volunteers at the park and the staff. They are always friendly and knowledgeable. I traveled from San Antonio and definitely encouraged anyone to go and visit for a relaxing time.
My first time visiting the Enchanted Rock and although the temperature was 112 degrees and the hike was steep, the view was well worth the effort!I have a bad ankle and made the trip okay and I saw people of all ages, including children, navigating their way safety. My partner and I choose to wear masks if we passed people on the trail but it was pretty rare to see anyone else do this.Bring lots of water, take stops along the way and make a reservation before you go!
Enchanted Rock state nature park is beautiful and magical. We bought our day pass online so we didnt have to wait when we entered the park. We set our time for 1030-1230 to be in the park. We arrived with enough time to enjoy a nice lunch before we hiked up the summit. Even on Christmas day there was more people than I would have expected at the park. Trails are clearly marked and well groomed. I would say that it is a moderate climb to the summit only due to some of the trail being very steep. There is plenty of caves and small trails all over if you have the time, energy, and willingness to do some bouldering. It was an amazing day and look forward to going back.
Great hike 3/4 of a mile about 800 foot elevation. Great little hike around the rock too. We did it in the fall. In the summer it might not be as fun
Awesome park!! Trails are really well maintained and the scenario is just gorgeous. Dog friendly only on the Loop Trail, but still definitely recommend with your pup!
Photos were taken a few days ago. Gorgeous sunset and the majestic Milky Way.
Just as I remember it!It’s a bit busier now, so definitely get a reservation. Do it online, the easiest way to get it done. If you’re making it for the same day, call the park directly and they can get you set up easily. May take awhile to get through, which is why online is the best option. We pulled in about 4 pm. Recommend later in the day as it’s cooling off, or earlier in the morning. This was perfect timing for us. Didn’t get too hot, which was nice. Bring a water bottle with.Came as a family to hike up, and we ended up going to the less traveled rock after going half way up the main rock. There were several people traveling up and it just seemed easier to go to the rock next door. Beautiful pink granite.Looking forward to coming back soon.
Incredible scenery and views. Great hikes and trails. Well-maintained park, including bathrooms and showers. Perfect for our #honeymoontour.Note that the park only allows tent camping, no vehicle camping of any kind. After we got a reservation, we drove 30 mins to the closest Wal-Mart to get a tent. Then, we got lucky that someone was coming out of the gate because otherwise, the gates are apparently locked for outside entry after 5pm.
Great experience hiking this beautiful pink granite rock! Will be back again to hike the rest!
Beautiful weather for hiking. Word of caution: We had reservations to camp for one night. The ranger checking us in forgot to write down the gate code on the back of the receipt that gets taped to the windshield. So when we returned to Enchanted Rock after visiting Fredericksburg in the evening, the gate was closed and we didnt have a gate code to get in. Also, there was no number to call. We had to get a hotel room in Fredericksburg for the night (bummer). So REMEMBER TO GET THE GATE CODE UPON CHECKING IN
My family camps at a lot of different state parks in Texas, but this one was so well-kept. The bathrooms were always clean and had paper towels, and soap. Loved this park!
The name says it all.Reservations are a must, but they will let lookie loos in for a few to drive around.Bring plenty of water, snacks and your love for the outdoors! This place will fits the bill!
Its a great few hours of hiking. Hurts on the way up. Take the time to read and respect the rock and surrounding environment. Drink water, it gets hot. Dont play with snakes... they hurt. Wear loose fitting clothing so your body can breathe. Go potty as there arent any on the trails themselves. This is my favorite place in Texas!!!Remember hiking etiquette: take nothing when you leave, leave nothing when you go.Destroy your cairns, take your trash, leave the arrowheads and animals. The place has a spirit... respect the spirit.
We couldnt have asked for better weather! We had a great time. But definitely go early on a weekday. The later it gets, the more crowded. You dont want to tackle the summit trail in the middle of the day.
Beautiful scenery, peaceful, and something you should experience in your lifetime.
This is a great, no actually amazing place to visit IF ITS NOT RAINING. If it is raining they have closed the Summit Trail for sure because its too slippery. If you are coming from a long distance and have purchased the required pre-admission tickets and you cant miraculously change the weather yourself from rain to sunshine, dont bother. $16 for two tickets down the drain even though you can see the rest of the park. The other trails just arent as good.
Epic experience! We were only brave enough to do summit trail (the easiest one). Visited in August, heat was omg of course. But my 9 and 5 year olds made it. Great but exhausting adventure. Bring water, Gatorade and hat!
Enchanted Rock is very popular, so don’t expect to have a natural experience away from humans or their dogs, but it truly is a magical place and it is absolutely worth visiting. I recommend hiking the outer loop trail to experience the beautiful rock formations and gorgeous landscape.
Real fun. There is alot to see and hike during the day. Making the summit exhausted me but it was worth the view. I recommend purchasing a day pass to make sure you can enter the park....thats what we did online and it worked perfect. We want to go back sometime to stay overnight, we hear the stars are beautiful.
The kids and I made it here during spring break. I knew it would be busy and got a day pass prior to our visit online. I’m glad I did and I was able to pick a time slot of when we’d be there. It helped bypass some traffic and get in a little earlier. There are a few different trails with the summit hike the main hike. It had some fairly challenging spots and the view from the top was great.
Beautiful area we arrived to find out they were all booked for the day. There is no driving around, you park and hike. I would suggest early morning since it gets pretty hot there.
When my son was young we’d hike back to the lake and camp out over the weekend. Loved the stars and the time together. Fond memories. One of my favorite SNAs/Parks in TX. Just there a couple weeks ago ... with a reservation. Go early! The rock was warming up by lunchtime.
My first time here and frankly was upset I never knew about it before - especially since I was born and raised in Texas. This place is a must visit! The scenery and landscape are spectacular and the trails are amazing. The drive to Enchanted Rock from Austin was a nice trip - not too far. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone who wants to see something so beautiful. Please make to bring a lot of water and sunscreen, youll be sorry if you dont.
Nice 20 Min Hike to The Top with Some Great Views of the Texas Hill country. Need a Reservation to get in, but definitely worth it!
What a wonderful Park! I love it!
PLEASE explain to me how a NATURE reserve sells out?! If humans weren’t there “running” NATURE, that would NEVER happen. I am highly displeased. Drove 2 hours to enjoy nature, and the land that was there, BEFORE humans decided to claim it, is “SOLD OUT.” WHAT SENSE DOES THAT MAKE?!?
It gets hot and there is very little shade so I suggest going when the there is cooler weather. Great hiking and amazing views!
Tried getting in 4 times in my life and have all been unsuccessful. Until now. Late in afternoons, it can be horrible with the amount of traffic to get in. I have twice been held off by over 4mile-long lines to get in. Other times, was held off by what Ive heard was the huge 420-gatherings that take place here that I did not want to partake in. Now, with the pandemic, was finally able to get in during the early morning, and thank goodness I did. It really, really does get hot. Very hot. A lot of exposed rock and little shade. But great sweeping views, and not that difficult a climb. I will admit that the trail wrapping around the Rock is NOT well marked, particularly the west end (so if you take the trail clockwise from the summit trail). If you CAN find it though, I would recommend that way since going counterclockwise will result in an almost entirely slight incline of the trail the whole time. Just to keep in mind.
Beautiful hike! I cant wait to go back and see more of the park
Honestly, this was so worth the effort. The hardest part is everything at tree level. Heat just collects and sits down there,, but once you get out in the open, the breeze kicks in and pushes you up to the summit! GORGEOUS view, my partner and I felt accomplished and the photos were lovely. We made our reservations for the morning, so as noon came on our descent down, we could feel the temperature difference. There are a few paths you can take of youre not hellbent on climbing to the top that Im sure are just as lovely, but in truth, my partner and I have been out of shape since the quarantine fell. This climb was definitely more than enough!!!
Pre reservation is recommended. We didnt have a reservation but could get a day pass due to no shows. Once you climb up the summit trail which is very steep at places, you get wonderful views from the peak. Avoid going on hot days as there are no trees for shade on the hike. And i found there are no food joints so better carry lots of water and your own food.
Great place to go if you are in to hiking. There are not a lot of bathrooms in the parking area. Wear good hiking shoes. Lots of the paths have cacti growing along the sides so I dont recommend wearing shorts or open-toed shoes.
Magical place beautiful views but not a easy climb to the top or coming down so beware.
A must do. Would love to be able to do this every day. I had to take a break or two. I am afraid of heights and it was a little rough coming down but mind over matter and I conquered it. Felt absolutely amazing. Looking forward to doing it again one day.
Beautiful and doable on many age/ activity levels. Advice..bring your own water!
Wanted to experience the beauty of this location but park was closed during the pandemic. So I did what I could to show all what I could see from the closed gate at the entrance.Note: you have to go online to get a pass to enter when open through the Texas Parks and wildlife in order to get in. Beautiful place and beautiful scenery while traveling to get there.
Fantastic place for a good hike. I do not reccomend small children since the rock can get steep most times and can be slippery if you do not have good grips on shoes.
You drive 2 hrs to find out, you gotta have a reservation, to be in the country.. to be in Nature . You gotta be kidding ... ! There is plenty of room to be distancing...
Great place with several trails aside from the summit. Dog friendly but they arent allowed to go up to the summit. Family friendly but please do age and ability appropriate trails...dont drag small children up to the summit. We want them to grow up loving nature and hiking. Bring plenty of water and respect nature leaving no trace behind. Most importantly reserve your spot online and have fun.
Must visit if youre in Texas. Its busy so make reservations well in advanced. Car camping and primitive camping is available. The hike to the summit is moderate and takes about 20 - 25 minutes. If youre brave you can explore the caves at the summit.
Great hike with a great view! Make sure you go online an buy your tickets in advance.
A perfect hike for the family. Guide said its 45 minute walk to the top, we did it in 20 minutes. Very easy walk up and down. Wonderful views from the top and plenty of big rocks for the kids to climb on. Next time well pack a picnic. We came in November and would probably avoid in dead heat of summer. Cost $7 per adult (12 and under are free).
Its such an amazing place. Great hiking and campsites. If you dont like to camp, its not far from Fredricksburg, you can stay there and drive out for the day.
Very cool hikes. Super views! Great way to get the kids out into nature!
Definitely a fantastic natural area to enjoy and hike. There are multiple trails you can traverse based on your preference and what you would like to do. If you want to get to the top, take the summit trail, if you want to go around and hike longer, take the loop trail. Beware that the top gets hot in the summer, carry hydration with you. Also, parking can get crazy in busy times such as weekends and holidays, plan early and I’ll suggest getting a pass online before coming, makes it easy for everyone. Potable water is really scare and so they suggest carrying your own water. Washrooms are available but might be out of water, there are also porta pottys in the welcome areas. I loved the drive as well, you get to enjoy nature in all its glory. Highly recommended spot for solo hikers as well as families.
Enchanted Rock is a busy place! Its also a spiritual mecca. We go yearly, at least, when I need to feel grounded again. The 360 degree views atop the summit trail are the best. If you come during summer you will need water. Can you find the cave? :)
We LOVED it. Went there with the boys to climb up the rock, and it was absolutely amazing. Trails are very well marked and maintained, and the site is gorgeous. If you happen to be visiting Fredericksburg, TX, you should definitely plan and spend 1/2 day at the park.
Awesome place to be. Hiking was fun. Make sure to take warm clothes during winter as the place can be windy. We happened to be here at perfect time. It was sunny and not that very hot. Visiting a small lake down enchanted rock was fun too. View is really nice from top. We met a lot of people doing the hike.
Looks incredible but unfortunately I didnt get to climb since they are currently as of oct25, 2020 reservations only bye bye two hours drive.
Always a blast!! Take plenty of water if you are planning a day trip, wear comfortable shoes and light weight clothes.
So much fun! Got lucky for the overcast. So really didnt start getting hot till after lunch.
Great place for star gazing. We also saw meteor shower while there.
It was amazing! We drove an hour to get here and were not disappointed! It was a tough hike to the top but it was so worth it! You just feel so humbled when you get up there to see all of nature’s beauty surround you! It’s not called Enchanted for nothing. Don’t skip over this one esp if you have friends and family coming to visit! It is a great day trip! Come early in the morning because it will get hot quick!
It was beautiful me and my boyfriend when and honestly I wish we couldve stayed to star gaze
Enchanted Rock rises 425 feet above the base elevation of the park. Its high point is 1,825 feet above sea level, and the entire dome covers 640 acres. Climbing the Rock is like climbing the stairs of a 30- or 40-story building. One billion years ago, this granite was part of a large pool of magma, or hot liquid rock, perhaps seven miles below the earth’s surface. It pushed up into the rock above in places, then cooled and hardened very slowly, turning into granite. Over time, the surface rock and soil wore away.
One of the best state parks in Texas! Family friendly, and activities for people of all ages and activity levels. You can camp overnight and there’s primitive toilets for you out there. Don’t go in the prime Texas heat though! Don’t miss exploring the cave crevices and the lake in the middle. Catch a beautiful sunrise. Great for stargazing at night, and you’ll feel like you’re on top of the world when you reach the summit. Get there early to beat the crowds and the long line of cars during peak times of the year. Close enough to San Antonio for a great day trip that you won’t regret.
Awesome views. Loved it. 2 hr window to visit.
The hike up to Enchanted Rock is challenging, but very rewarding. Once you make it to the top you can see for miles and miles. Absolutely beautiful!
Such a beautiful area! I am new to the state of Texas and finding state parks and preserved areas to visit. The hike up Enchanted rock is challenging but doable if you pace yourself. The top of the rock you see from the bottom is not the true summit. I highly recommend this adventure to anyone in the area
First, realize YOU MUST MAKE RESERVATIONS AND PLAN THE TRIP!!! All state parks are requiring it. And we had no issues getting a day pass, took less than 5 minutes to check into the park. Hiked echo canyon to moss lake then went off trail and up little dome and across to the third dome. The trails are well marked and maintained. Be sure to bring water and know your limits. It’s a great park, will be back.
It was a super hot day but our family of 8 hiked all the way to the top. Make sure you have water. Also, park reservations are sometimes necessary so call ahead if possible.
We made our day pass reservation a few weeks in advance and it was sold out but not crowded at all.
Always love coming here! Amazing views, and during this pandemic they are taking the right precautions (making reservations to make sure not too many people there at one time)
I love this park, i would give 5 stars but a exit sign on the trails would be nice. Rangers are awesome
Beautiful hiking and views of the Texas Hill Country. Be sure to purchase your tickets in advance due to limited entries because of Covid virus.
Beautiful park, well maintained, hard to get into. Hike up Enchanted Rock is very close to parking lot. A few close drive up camping grounds. Three remote, primitive hike in campgrounds. No fires allowed in the primitive sites, about 1.5 mile hike. Get a day pass or campsite online, hard to get in without reservation on the weekend.
