One of first original German construction and still existing homes in Frederick, Maryland. Knowledgeable volunteers are on staff to host tours, maintain the garden, and manage the small gift shop. Many seasonal exhibitions invite other period craftsmen to display or perform their trade on the grounds. Delightful historic home tour can be covered in about an hour. If youre into period craftsmen, for an Exhibition, allow at least 2 to 3 hours to wander among the vendors.

Visited during the Fall craft show. A small but quaint experience. No parking at the site but street parking or private lots are within walking distance. All vendors are outside so a decent day is required. The building (architectural museum) is worth supporting and preserving.

Simply said this was a wonderful tour. Well planned event for adults and children. The volunteers were very knowledgeable on the history of the building and its original owners. My only suggestion would be to have a video of upstairs with narration for those with handicaps and cant make it up the steep stairs. Overall a piece of history no one should miss out on.

Since my childhood memories of my parents volunteer service in the foundation of this special early German Architectural Museum, to the adaptive culture who maintains it into the next generation, Shifferstadt will be the cornerstone of Frederick Citys best historic architecture and preservation. Enjoyed by many.

Went to the annual Oktoberfest event, which is excellent. Great food, nice crowd, good vendors, tasty beer, fantastic um-pah band playing German drinking songs. Fun! Prost!

When I (a German native) studied abroad in Frederick, I visited the Schifferstadt house twice. It is known to be the finest existing example of German colonial architecture in the US and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016. I really recommend visiting the museum to everyone who is interested in the citys history and German heritage. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable!

If Im not mistaken, it is one of the oldest homes in Frederick and an excellent example of the German style arcitecture. The staff are very knowledgeable not only about the houses history but the area as well.

Tour of the house presents architectural details for the unique construction of this mid-16th century stone house . The old wooden beams and central fireplace for efficient heating are just two outstanding preservation efforts of the museum. A must visit for Frederick residents!

When I first moved to Frederick, I was told how much my parents loved the preservation project when my Father served as one of the Presidents of Schifferstadt Architectural Museum. For The Landmarks Foundation. Which ironically he also named his real estate business Landmark Realty which I adapted for current law to be The Landmark Group. It is amazing how over the past 40 years, it is still the same chapter of history in that early German property. We are soo grateful for the people who formed this preservation movement in Frederick to preserve much of our unique architecture. The Festivals are much appreciated. It is wonderful to enjoy the seasons in the museum to see how would the original occupants have utilized the property during that season. This is a wonderful way for the community to connect over volunteer and fund raising to keep this special culture alive in Frederick!
