Awesome 3/4 mile trail! Beautiful area! Note... the trail is to the right of the parking lot....not up the steps.

There’s just something about this place besides the history that was very special. I enjoy Franklin and make sure I stop here whenever I am in town. Thank you to the ones that are keeping it clean, the grass cut and maintaining the park!

Lovely place for a 3/4-mile walk through the woods. Civil War interpretive signs help explain the significance of the site in the Battle of Franklin. The squirrels everywhere were about the only companions I had this September evening. Id love to come here again.

If you are interested in our countrys history and the Civil War, then check out the historical City of Franklin and Winstead Hill. We picked up a pamphlet at the visitors center that is a audio tour of the area, including Winstead Hill. We thoroughly enjoyed learning more about this period in our history.

I love this park. There is a ton of history all around Franklin, but the way they have the monuments set up and the detail is incredible.I also enjoy the way the walking trail is here too. You get a slight grade increase on certain parts, some of it feels like your walking in the woods on a paved road, and other parts are wide open.Definitely worth a visit if your visiting!

Outstanding open public park, free to enter. Winstead Hill park is the location where the Confederate army command post was set up 2 miles south of the City of Franklin and for the Battle of Franklin. It has monuments for all the Confederate armies from all the southern states as well as cannons and the original command post of General Hood. You are able to look across the valley from the exact views General Hood had of the Battle of Franklin. There are historical information posters around, talking of who Winstead was and the Confederate army command post. There is also a 3/4 mile walking trail. Nothing to see on the trail, except for nature. Easy access and a must see.

Small park has a very nice paved 0.7 mile walking trail or you can take the 0.5 mile short cut. There are monuments for many of the southern states in an area on the hill. There is a large map laying out the laying out the November 30, 1874 Battle of Franklin.

Winstead Hill is less a park then a memorial. Good parking lot opens up directly on a small Hill that beautifully overlooks Franklin Tennessee. At the paths peak is where civil war general Hood led his confederate forced into the Battle of Franklin. There is a fascinating Stone relief map built into the covered overlook. There is a walking trail, short if a mile. There is restroom facilities but theyre is not a playground for children. But there is plenty of photo spots as you climb the hill lined with informative memorial stones.

A historic treasure on the southern end of Franklins city limits. Sobering to read how many Americans died that fateful day. Be prepared to walk a little, stone steps as well. Ample parking.

I was directed to stop and see this park and was pleasantly surprised. I really appreciated the fact that there is a phone number you can call and punch in the park number and there is a recording of what piece of history went down at that particular location. If you want something to fill a half hour or somewhere to walk and stretch out, this is a good place to do it.

I cant say much for the trails, as I come here for the history. Years ago, we used to camp in Civil War uniform here and then march to the Carter House to reenact the battle. This is a must-stop for anyone interested in the history in the area. The battle of Franklin kicked-off here, so one must imagine what it was like to walk from here towards the Federals, about 2.5mi away. The monuments here are certainly worth taking the time to read. This is a nicely done park that keeps a piece of history alive.

Well, Govan, if we are to die, let us die like men were the words of General Cleburne as he and his friend General Daniel Govan parted before Cleburne died charging the Union breastworks on November 30th, 1864. This place, formerly known as Breezy Hill to the people of Franklin, is where the Confederate army had an observation post during the battle of Franklin. I feel the power of this place; the pride in the courage and chivalry of the men who fell at Franklin, one of whom was my ancestor who is buried at Carnton, runs very deep. You can feel it here. The monuments that have been erected will likely stand for some time, and are properly represented in an honorable arrangement around the area. It gives me pride of place to be associated with these men who put courage and honor above everything else and charged to their deaths. However controversial or misguided their cause may seem today, their courage and sacrifice is echoed today in our military and the sacrifices they make daily in fighting for what we believe.

Not to be missed when visiting Franklin. Hidden in plain sight. Take the stairs up to the overlook to see the bronze relief map that outlines how the Battle of Franklin unfolded. Especially worth the climb in the winter, when the leaves have fallen and you can see the contours of the land, — on a clear day, all the way across town to Fort Grainger.Recent improvements include a paved loop, great for strollers and walkers and areas for a picnic.PRO TIP: the long sloping approach to the overlook makes a great sledding sit for the two or three days every winter theres enough snow to break out the snow saucer.

It looks like a really nice park, but Im going to go back during the day. I went there tonight because Google said there was activity here at all hours. My husband and I go on walks at places like centenial park in Nashville at night all the time so we didnt think anything of it. There were no other cars and it was not really well lit so we decided against walking very far. We stopped to read the signs at least while we were there plus there were some pokestops and then we saw someone in the woods staring at us! Yes this sounds like some made up spooky scary story you tell to your kids at a camp fire but I am serious yall! They started walking toward us but didnt say anything. It was really scary. So do not pay attention to the popular times thing on Google, only go here during the day for sure.
