Quite a few years ago we were able to have a campfire at the Franklin State Forest off Summer St. near the camp with the Webelos as they were transitioning to Boy Scouts. It was wonderful and so peaceful. The whole setting meant a lot to the entire pack and their parents. It really made people understand from the moment they stepped out of their vehicles to start their hike into the woods, many for the first time; take only pictures, leave only footprints. (Do you?)

Good for a quick walk. Or you can go into the other half and get lost for 4 hours. Been there, done that.

The states website describes the forest as historic and undeveloped. There is nothing notably historic here, however, and it seems like an unremarkable area of typical MA woods (no old growth here). By undeveloped they mean there is no trail maintenance, and the trails are torn apart by dirt bikes (which are allowed and also disturb any tranquility of the forest). Nothing special here at all.

The singletrack is beat to death. Definitely not smooth like Riderplanet-usa.com says.

Great park. The Heart Healthy trail is mostly flat, and makes for a nice walk.

Has nice trails in most of it for walking and biking. Does have a rule against ATVs and dirtbikes, but it looks like such a great trail that Im not suprised to see lots of tracks in certain parts. Meaning that you should wear boots in case you run into some mud.

Lots of dirt bikers at times but everyone is cool. Muddy after the rain but no bugs, no poison ivy, and fairly clear trails.

I entered the park at the intersection of Grove and Beaver St. Trails are nicely defined throughout. Trail markers were great heading in, not so much when heading out, pay close attention to your turns!
