A perfect day for this walk. Great time for the cost. Friendly staff. Educational and plenty to see. Will definitely visit again.
This was an excellent place for me to take my son, who is fascinated with animals. Some of the activities and exhibits are closed, due to Covid, bit thats understandable. My only suggestion is that they get rid of the blow dryers in the restrooms and make the doors open out, so that you dont have to touch the handle with your freshly washed hands.
Great experience! Reservation process is simple and admission is reasonable. Friendly staff and covid precautions being followed.
Best place to take your little ones for a quick getaway to the zoo shows all the natural wildlife of Kentucky
Its a pretty place to go and fish or even walk or have a picnic. Very nice place to have family time
This place was pretty fun. There was a few displays of animals. The inside was closed. We walked around the whole place. Theres some cool little paths you could take. Its not very big. It took us about an hour or so to walk through.
We walked through the outdoor exhibits and they were great! We went on a weekday and there wasnt a huge crowd. The kids were able to linger and watch each animal as long as they wanted. They loved watching a black bear and bald eagle up close.
Great area to fish! My son and I like going there. There are all kinds of wildlife there. 2 huge fishing spots, nature trails, enough shaded picnic areas, and quiet. Beautiful place.
Such an amzing place, I absolutely love coming here. Very family/kid friendly and reasonbly priced. Super well kept. Highly recommend, if you want a more quiet, personal visit, go during the weekday.
Great place to take the kids walk around and see the wild life.
Its a great place to take the kids and just enjoy local animals and nature.
Good nature walk with some neat animal enclosures and interesting information plaques. Anytime you can see a bald eagle up close, it’s a good time. Friendly staff and plenty of place to picnic after your animal tour.
So much to see and learn... Very friendly staff
We enjoyed the sites here. It was a nice walk with our native animals within site. With a show put on by the bobcats.
The native animals & plants are wonderful. The inner museum like part is so informative, entertaining & interactive. The outside is great to walk thru & experience with kids. Like a small zoo.
Amazing place. Great for the whole family. We went to the Halloween party and had a wonderful time!
Love this place!! Great for family time.
My kids and I love it here! There is all kinds of animals to see. They have educational activities and events for adults and children both. They have multiple stocked fishing ponds. They have nice hiking trails with a map. The price of admission is affordable and fair. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend checking out the Salato Center if you have never been.
Made a day trip up to Frankfort from Owensboro. We came there for something else but SO GLAD we stopped at the Salato Wilfdlife Center!!! It was an amazing place for our daughter. She loved the bears out front and then someone brought out a snake which she REALLY LOVED! Can’t wait to go back! We even got to have a little educational time with a Raptor encounter!!! Such a great asset for the Commonwealth!!
For 5 bucks this place went above and beyond. the volunteers brought snakes out for me to pet and were well informed about the animals at the locations. a must see for everyone
We had such a great time at Salato Wildlife Ctr. And plan on returning! Lots to explore and plenty to keep the kids entertained. You can also take a little hike on the trails while you are there! Very clean, friendly place to take the family! Highly recommend!
Very cool place to take the family. Not at all expensive. Animals seem well cared for and the scenery is beautiful inside and out
With a variety of animals from Ky, this is a great place to go to learn a little more about the animals youll find in Ky. With animals indoor and outdoor, this is an awesome place to visit on a nice summer day. They have a nice variety of animals ranging from snakes, turtles, Bees, Eagle, Elks, Buffalos. They even have a cute fishing section for little kids to play. This place isnt huge, but to take your time and visit everything takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Before leaving also stop by the fallen police monument.
Our grandchildren love animals. A great way to spend some time with them.
Perfect for a family day out, especially with younger children! I loved this place when I was younger and still enjoy it today.
A great place to visit to see nature in the city.
Fantastic time. So much to learn and enjoy.
We were not able to see everything because of COVID but the organization was great and we enjoyed seeing the exhibits that were outdoors.
What a wonderful place for a quick educational getaway.
The loop is nice to walk with kids. The loop is not very long so dont plan to spend more than an hour or two.
Great little center/zoo/aquarium of local wildlife. Does have interactive exhibits for the kiddos. Small pond for insect, bird viewing. Short trail for hiking. There are public restrooms at the main entrance. Picnic areas for a bring yourself lunch. Great place for an educational and fun afternoon.
Beautiful setting, nice exhibits, friendly hosts and hostesses. Were so thankful for this wildlife center!
Love visiting this place, peaceful walk, little hiking opportunities and the Wildlife Center is also nice.
Awesome place for the family.
You get to see, learn and even touch some of the exhibits.
Took toddler nephews. They loved it. They both got in free. Adults were only $4, so it was very inexpensive compared to most places. Nephews loved seeing the animals and fish. They really loved petting the snake and turtle! Great place to go with the family.
I live close and enjoy the area weekly. Great for jogging and hiking that isnt too challenging if you are up for it.
Lovely place for children to walk and explore
I cant wait for it to open back up 100%. But I love this place.
Definitely worth a visit. Its like a zoo and a park together. Very affordable too.
We love walk our dog here and have picnics at the park.
I’ve gone here since I was a kid and loved bringing my nephews here. Some things have been added which is nice but as nature may go, I was sad to see the dragonfly marsh pretty much dried up. That was one of my favorite spots as a child. Great place to go to see some interesting animals and learn a lot.
Loved this experience. Its not overwhelming and very beautiful and educational. The entrance fee isnt much and they have plenty opportunity for walking trails. All the animals were outside and playing and the streams were gorgeous!
Amazing park staffed by the friendliest rangers. Great educational opportunity to lean about native wildlife and the world around us.
Always a fun day trick or treating with the animals. Even on a rainy day!
Its such a great place for everyone! Between the animals and the nature surrounding you, its an amazing place to be. Bonus: the bear is adorable.
Always a good time with the kids. Its small, but we always manage to spend a couple of hours. And extremely in expensive!
Great place to learn about wildlife and ecosystems in Kentucky. There are both indoor and outdoor exhibits, all with great information. Plan to spend about 2 to 3 hours if you want to visit all the exhibits.
Good for a half day with the kids. The focus on local wildlife is nice.
Good place for a meeting and a relaxing walk.
This was way better than i was expecting! Lots of information, lots of animals, and plenty of outside time. Definitely worth a visit!
It is a great place for a (half) Saturday or Sunday with kids. It is not crowd so very enjoyable. A lot of animals to see, wildlife and educational activities. Also shelters to stay and to celebrate kids parties. Plenty areas to fishing. And good prices, $5 for adults and $3 for kids.I did not remember any place to buy food other than a drinks machine and water fountains, so make sure to bring you food to enjoy the day.Ah, you can hiking too.
Very spacious and the wildlife part is really neat.
Good, clear trails. Nice informational signage. Good for a warm clear day.
Absolutely love this place! My 4 year old and I visited and it was only 5$ for everything. Loved it so much weve been back 3 times in the past week and got the yearly membership. Very clean, organized, the animals look great and well fed,and the staff is super nice.
Good place to learn about nature
The price is reasonable and it is an educational for kids of all ages. It isnt a zoo so dont expect a large variety of exotic animals it is filled with local wildlife. It makes a nice day especially if you pack a meal and a fishing pole for trip.
The mammal, fish, bird and reptile exhibits are very good. They have a fairly wide selection of species to view. It was a treat to get that close to bobwhites and observe their behavior. The elk and bison were also worth making the visit.
Very peaceful and clean.
Great place to learn about the wildlife in KY. I do remember a time when there was no charge but even now the price is more than reasonable. Family of 6 was a little over $20 and we could gave bought an annual pass for $35. There are plenty of fish and wildlife employees around to ask any questions you may have. Something I always forget about until Im there is the fishing pond. I did notice this time that they have poles for rent but it was pretty hot out while I was there so I didnt do it.
Great place to take the kids to see the wildlife!
So so fun and beautiful a must but come on a cool day so that all the animals are out. Bring plenty of water!
There was literally no animals to look at up close other then the eagle. Also had to go all the way thru just to get back to the bathroom. Heck had to go out and come back in just to use it...
Nice, small zoo featuring animals native to Kentucky.
I like this place alot. Lots of things to do for the kids. Adult 5.00 kids 3.00 a piece for the zoo. They have a building with snakes, a few fish, and learning center for the kids. Outside in the back they have various animals to see and a small pond in the back you can sit by.They have two ponds you can also fish at as well in the front of the buildings. . Nice and relaxing, place to picnic and spend the day. If you dont go to the zoo its free to go fishing provided you have your fishing license.
Love this place!!!! I have lived in KY my entire life and finally got to take all five of my kids to see this awesome place!!! Would like to go visit again when it isnt so hot, but even with the high temps it was totally worth it!!! Admission was very reasonable, cheap in fact, even for our large family!!! Our favorite part was the Black Bear enrichment, where they fed the black bear berries and things from a paper sack and he had to get it out of the bag himself.
Great place to take kids of all ages. Entrance to the park is free but to tour the wildlife center is $5 per adult and $3 for children, well worth the small price. Very educational and informative about Kentucky wildlife.
I love this place. Everyone should visit here.
First snow fall of the season hike
The Salato Wildlife Center is educational and enjoyable. We went on a Thursday at 10 am in June, 2019. There were very few people at the center. We enjoyed the exhibits. We learned that some of our native animals had almost.become extinct. Thanks to the efforts of the Kentucky conservation department we now have a lot of our native animals to enjoy
Great place to bring the whole family. Its small enough to get in and out in a couple of hours and cheap enough not to break the bank. You can hike the trails, picnic or hang out at the pond for free. The facilities are nice and the people are very helpful.
Amazing
It was absolutely wonderful
Absolutely the best. Great animals and great care for them. Great exhibits. The grounds are clean.
Awesome experience!!! There is a lot to do there and it is very inexpensive. Very educational and a fun outdoor activity
It had been some time since Ive been here but I love this place
We took our 5 year old out to walk with animals. Unfortunately its raining today but the folks there made it work. We did miss seeing the animals. Thank you so much Salato Wildlife Cener.
Etremely educational, very professional
Great place to take the family great place to learn about the outdoors and Wildlife great place for fishing picnics and being outdoors
This place has so much to offer! There are plenty of trails to walk, lots of animals to see, special events periodically, knowledgeable people! You can even fish here!
Good price for its size. very educational! small but beautiful scenery! had lots of carpenter bees! even tho they dont hurt you... we were still running from them lol.
Great fun for all!
Great covered pavilions kids had a good time even though it rained
Great place. Went for the first time in hunting and fishing appreciation day. Kids had a blast.
Great place to visit. I highly recommend it if your into wildlife and the environment.
Thanks for providing me with a wonderful, succinct brochure. All I needed to begin my rediscovery of what I still refer to as The Game Farm.
Its a very fun and cheap place to go if you want to enjoy a hot day looking at animals. It is a bit hot outside but the range of animals and the care for them is amazing!
This place is really a gem! I love taking my kids here better than the big zoos! They are able to get up close to most of the animals. It’s normally pretty quiet here unless you go on a day when school field trips are happening. The main building is full of native snakes, fish, bees and other reptiles. Then you walk outside on a nice paved walking path where you can go see larger mammals (deer, elk, bison, etc). There are also some hiking trails if you are feeling brave with the kiddos. My favorite thing about this place is the quail exhibit! Your kids will really enjoy it here and it’s way less stressful then a big day at a huge zoo and way cheaper too! You won’t regret stopping here for a day trip!
Free to everyone right now but not able to go inside due to pandemic.
Beautiful place, not expensive very informative. Kid friendly.
Great place to enjoy nature
Game farm is. Beautiful place to picnic, read, walk, fish. The salato center itself is very interesting.
Great place to take Kentucky children to learn about the wildlife in Kentucky.
Great place for family time
