Fantastic place to visit for a short walk. The path is wide and well made- more like walking on a dirt road (as opposed to many hiking trails in New England full of rocks and roots). Wow there were way more flowers than I expected to see on a mid-September day.Parking lot and restrooms not available due to Covid-19. We parked on a public road and walked in - it was easy & a short walk, this was a weekday however and I imagine parking is probably more of a challenge on weekends. We found a clean restroom available at a nearby Shaw’s grocery store (go to the 2nd floor).Highly recommend checking out Nzuko for a delicious meal or snack after a walk at Garden in the Woods!
Perfect for someone that is interested in identifying native plants. Takes maybe an hour to tour the place. Good cause. There were some art installations throughout the garden but it seemed overgrown and forgotten. If you are mainly interested in a nice nature walk, go to cochituate state park. At least there you can walk the trails and go to the beach at half the cost.
It was as advertised. Nice little place. Lots of named plants. Bathrooms and visitor center not open due to Covid. Would have spent more time there if open. Outside plant store is open and service and advice was the best. Masks required. Appointments for entry required. Parking is on street a short walk away. Not an issue.
Absolutely beautiful. Perfect wall for a two yr old. We enjoyed the 20+ turtles in the pond, frogs, and all the pretty insects.
Lovely spot for a walk. There is an entrance fee and during Covid19 you need a reservation. Also no bathrooms so go before you arrive.
Coming from Wisconsin visiting my in-laws I was over taken by the diamond in the rough with this garden in the woods excellent just excellent. Great walking trails even though some of the places were closed because of the pandemic but we survived it was an awesome trip strongly recommended.
So beautiful. Amazing views and really nice to be in nature.
I’ve made several springtime visits — always rewarding.
So peaceful. The planting are great
Visited today. Its beautiful. Could have been a little more bigger.
This is an outdoor park with a fee to walk it, we went early june when the flowers should be blooming but there was very little of that! Definitely Not for me! As soon as we reached the pond we were ready to head out. I give this two stars.if your someone who just wants to sit in the woods supervised then maybe this is a good place for you! Otherwise spend your money someplace else!If at best even if free we would not want to return.
I had a wonderful time there this past weekend. The setting is very relaxing and peaceful. The store is also great! There are tons of great gift ideas and a lovely collection of plants for sale.
FYI, theyre still not open for the season and their voice mail message mentions no target date of opening. It only mentions to check back for updates. Im looking forward to the day we can visit, thanks.
Its very beautiful, well maintained, clean and rich with plants.
Costs $14 for adults just to enter. Not sure how these people in the reviews blitz through their money so hard they need to spend money going into a glorified park, when you can go to several free parks in Boston that will allow dogs.
Beautiful educational place
Nice place to visit but its too far.
Love trilliums in spring. Always something to see whenever I go. Love the plant sales too. So many wonderful native plants!
Visited on Mothers day with my 1 year old son and husband. Lot was full and had to park a bit back from visitor center. I feel like we went too early because most flowers hadnt bloomed yet. Hoping to go again mid summer for a more colorful experience. There was a family area where kids can run around and I enjoyed it with my 1 year old. It was a beautiful day for a stroll and overall I had a great time. My son loved the turtles at Lily Pond and I appreciated that the main trail was stroller friendly.
As a longtime Boston resident, one of my joys is spending a leisurely time strolling through this miracle of the joint effort of Nature and Man combining to create a a piece of heaven. Yesterday the ground was blanketed with lovely wildflowers, including Trilliums everywhere, and the turtles were sunning themselves on a log in the pond. Yesterday, I saw two hawks flying above the treetops while a woodpecker was busy hammering away at a dead tree limb above my head. I hesitate to share this because I like the feeling its a secret magical place!
Such a beautiful place. Loved it. And to tell you one important thing: Check it out. It is simply lovely.
A hidden treasure.
Beautiful and peaceful
Great nature hike!!!
This is one of my favorite places to visit. I love the incredible variety of plantings, the different themes. I especially appreciate the areas with rare New England plants.
Garden in the Woods is run by New England Wildflower Society, and everything in the gardens is a plant native to this area. If you are looking for formal gardens, this is not the place. GitW is much more of a wild garden and has more of a feel of a nature trail with amazing wildflowers. If you enjoy that kind of thing, then it is a wonderful place to explore. There are a couple miles of trails to explore and the scenery is beautiful. Also I recommend going in the spring if you can, as many of their blooming plants are spring flowers, but it was still very beautiful to go in August
Beautiful place, Ive been a member for over a year now.I go whenever I can, and I see something new and amazing every time I do!
Fantastic - wonderful design, amazing plant collection. Highly recommended.
