If anyone is bored at home during COVID-19 and wants to take a stroll this trail is nice and easy. To our advantage there were no other people here besides us, but I don’t think it’s ever truly busy? The trail is nearly 2 miles and it’s a good place to take a walk here in town while enjoying a bit of nature!
Had a lovely scenic morning walk, I must say thank you for the heads up to wear shoes you dont care for! It gets muddy when the trail ends for a bit, but the views were great. Got to see lots of nature and teach the young to respect being in wild lifes territory. Got to see lots of birds, snakes, lizards, bones, and historical buildings. Will definitely be back no gators seen on this trip.
Nice walk.. Lots of open area bring water especially if sunny.. Historic markers from wwII
Very interesting. Too wet to do the complete trail. Will be back in dry season.
Great place to get away from the hustle & bustle of life. Nice long walk on a trail where you can get in touch with nature and a little bit of history.
I really enjoy this park. Its close to 82, so you hear the traffic easy. It has a nice paved parking area and old structures from the training ground that used to be here in 82. In the rainy season, the entire trail isnt walkable, but in the dryer months, you have a 3 mile trail to hike. The trails are very well maintained otherwise. Also, 2 GeoCaches can be found here.
Great trail. Not alot of shade. Go early mornings or late afternoons
Fabulous place to visit. Easy flat walk. Part of the path is paved, part has a boardwalk, and part is mown grass. Really lovely nature trail. So many birds! I saw a rabbit. I took a picture of some poop, there was fur in it. I wonder what creature left it? Highly recommend this walk. Bring a bottle of water and your camera. Enjoy!
Very nice trail system and walking paths. Nice facility, just smaller than most.
Nice place to get away from the crowds. Be aware that the shredded-tire paved paths turn quickly to dirt. If its been raining, be prepared to wade if you want to make a full circuit. Quiet and very natural, despite being close to the airport.
This preserve is located in a neat, uncluttered area of Fort Myers that is a breath of fresh air to explore compared to the busy inter-city area. The trails are short, but well kept and are constructed of a sort of turf material thats easier on the limbs than regular old pavement. Its a great spot for birding if youre into that type of thing. The old Army base remains are pretty eerie and cool as well. Take a trip and see for yourself. It wont take much of your time and youll see something new!
Pretty trail. Interesting WWII background.
Never been here pass by everyday I go to work good in dry season but under water right now
Nice place, but bring boots or something you dont mind getting muddy if you want to walk the full loop. Very pretty at sunset. Boardwalks and paths that are built are really nice.
I went on a tour of the old Buckingham Air Base. It was very interesting. We saw some of the old structures that she still standing. The preserve itself it very large and makes for a nice walk.
Interesting walk. The rough parts of the trail are under water this time of year, but I expected that. Morning is a good time to go. Bring water and consider mosquito repellent. Lots of dragonflies today.
History in our back yard. Nice trail, easy to walk, watch for roots, not a lot of shade. Enjoy!
Beautiful place
Needs to find its personality! Very few shady areas and thus not a pleasant summer walk... Oh, bring sturdy, water proof shoes. You will need them if you want to walk further than the prepped walk.
If you like outdoors...
The best recreation & walking path I have found in the area. Most of the pathway is comprised of a 100% recycled tire paving, giving it a little bounce and making it good on the back and joints. There are a number of boardwalks and lookouts to enjoy the local wildlife. A small portion of the 1.8 mile loop is rustic and the ground may be a little wet at certain times of the year, however the boardwalks are accessible without going through this section of the trail. Please support local wetland restoration projects.
This was a great find in Lehigh!
Very peaceful
Cool path with reptiles around
Its owned by the public but we can only access a small part. The gun club controls it? I dont get it. There is improved trail and boardwalk as well as rugged trail that is submerged in rainy season. Some nice wetland that is slowly getting back to what it was, lots of wading birds, actually came upon a gator recently. 20 20 funds at work. Good job Lee county.
A nice little walking place. My dog is going next time with me.

Legs need to be stretched!!! Turkey style.
Great walking/nature park. A bit flooded today.
Just being out door is satisfying.
Great historical site!
Love this place. Nice and quiet.
Amazing trails always kept clean and beautiful view.
Great trail
Great place to ride around on the 4X4!
This is a great park that gets little attention for some reason. There is a walk path throughout the park and virtually nothing has been built or modified there. The area used to be part of the WWII Buckingham Airfield Training Center so, there are a couple old pieces from that era there. At various spots along the path there are markers explaining what used to be there, and what you are looking at.During our walks there we have seen several deer, hawks, eagles, and endless other wildlife. We go here pretty often, but not during the summer because of the heat. There is a single bathroom in the main parking area and there is no cost to park. Several pictures I have taken are loaded onto Panoramio.
Nice quiet place good for a hike or a jog. Old Buckingham Army Airfield training ground. Nice natural Florida landscape.
Awesome trails that highlight the historical significance of this place during wwii for training our gunners for shooting guns from planes to hit moving targets
Nice relaxing walk with the family. You get to see Turkeys for free....
Nice walk on trail. Along trail there is posted sign of the history of area. Used to train pilots and airman during WW2.
Natural Scrub Habitat with a dirt hiking trail, not wheel chair friendly but if you enjoy the Florida Scrub this is a great preserve.
Beautiful stroll, with comfortable walking. 5 star once they finish the path.
Love the trail! Bathroom was clean.
