One of the most interesting things to visit in Florence is the Florence Indian Mound museum. Not only is the mound itself incredible, but the museum is top notch. The museum is host to many events, many of which are geared towards educating children. The owners are super awesome and make sure to treat you like family when you visit. When in florence this is a must visit, and you will walk away well educated, and with a smile on your face. Do yourself a favor. VISIT!!! You will not regret it.
Awesome place! History comes alive with displays and features that are wellmthought out and engaging. Definitely worth the trip!
An unsightly industrial zone now surrounds the 43-foot-tall mound, and its adjacent museum. But that shouldnt put you off. If this ancient relic were in Rome, tourists would be lining up to marvel at the several-thousand-year-old pile of earth. Standing on its grassy top feels a little like being an astronaut on a dead alien planet. The museum next door can give you insight into the long-ago world of its creators.
Its good for its price kinda small but very informational
The mound was very cool. The museum was nice, clean, and very informative. Super nice friendly staff. We had a great time.
Neat place to go for an hour or so
What a fantastic place! It gives a great deal of context around the cultures existing before and during the creation of the mound. It also details what occured after European contact within the area.
Very nicely set up and so much history and information. The kids enjoyed it and I would like to go back to see more detail. Were local but will definitely be going back again soon!
This mound is kind of hidden in an industrial complex so it can be a little bit of a maze as you navigate around trying to find it. But it is really really cool. It basically looks like a medium sized hill to the uneducated eye. But there is so much more. Too bad the museum was closed when I drove by this place. Either way it was still very fun to look at.
$2 for students, $5 adults. Loved the mock cave! Loved the leaf imprints on cement in the short movie area. Enjoyed the history lesson, very kid friendly. Mound was pleasant. Looking forward to future discoveries!
Very informative museum. Impressive and spiritual mound
Lots of interesting information
Muesem was really well done. Lots of interesting exhibits.
Small museum but very informative. The attendant will give you some additional information about the mound as well as showing some old photos. There are some steep steps going up to the top of the mound.
Its a weird spot for a mound to be now. Great spot when it was first created. Now it sits in an industrial area. The building is much nicer than the mound. However, the display area inside is small and contains conflicting information. Three different time periods on when bows were introduced. So you wonder how much more information isnt correct. The mound itself isnt much of youve visited others. The whole point is to see how connected to the sky and spirits that the top of the mound is, but when all you see are industrial buildings the connection is broken.
Very educational and they offer continuous programming that is great for all ages.
The Florence Indian Mound is such an amazing part of history. The museum is beautifully designed and provides excellent education. Definitely a must see in Florence, Alabama.
Great info on the Woodland native culture...many interesting artifacts....the size of the mound is impressive..
Awesome place to visit. Lots of cool artifacts, and the top of the mound is a cool place to take in what life may have been like.
If you havent been here then you really need to go its very cool
Must visit if you enjoy native American history.. My kids loved it.
Well curated and interesting museum. The attendant was very knowledgeable and his passion for the history of the mound was evident. Definitely recommend.
Interesting slice of history.
Very interesting if you appreciate history
Not semi truck friendly. If you are passing through there is really no local spot close enough to safely walk there. In personal vehicle its a quick little stop to go to.
The Mound is a safe space for spirituality, creativity and the celebration of indigenous culture.
A hidden gym please go see it if youre near there
Amazing history
Very interesting
A surprisingly great little museum! They pack a ton of very interesting history in a small place. Worth it.
Mound is excellent, very few center exhibits, short walk through.
Great exhibits despite the small size of this attraction! Getting to climb thr mound is a serene experience.
This is a hidden jem in Florence. Outstanding exhibits lots of artifacts and a well done video. The view from the top of the mound is really neat.
The museum is small but the exhibits are very informative. Worth the admission. Lots of arrowheads, tools, and pottery.
Pretty cool little place. Was raining so did not get to climb to top.
Delightful museum. We are visiting from out of town via steam boat and stopped here. I marvel at the effort it took to build this, preserve this, and keep it for the learning experience it is.
Super disappointing that you cant visit the mound if the museum is closed. We were just staying a night here and walked down to see the mound but since the museum is closed, so was the gate.
Small but excellent museum. Enjoyed
Neat place historically, but nothing much to it. Big hill to climb.
Very wonderful ️
Very nice place has a good amount of exbits. Would recomend watching the short movie and climbing to the top of the mound. Hope more things can be added to this.
Really enjoyed the entire experience.
The new museum is very well done. It is informative, full of artifacts, and the exhibits make you feel like youre stepping into the past.
Great place for everyone to learn the history and culture of the native indians and to see it.
Its interesting to say the least
Interesting place.
State of the art brand new museum. The mound is awesome too!
Loys of great information. Although, I dont feel like its worth $5 to see such few exhibits.
Small but well done and worth the time to visit.
This new building is very nice. They have a great collection of Native American artifacts.
The museum is small but packed with interesting displays and information.
