Great staff and easy load in through the alleyway in the back right onto the stage. The green room is cozy. Very cool old theatre and the sound system was great.
Fantastic music venue, its been undergoing renovations over the past few years and feels more classy now. Layout is intelligent, bartender was efficient and friendly. Staff kept tables cleaned off and acoustics were very good. Will be keeping an eye on the calendar for future shows with people I like. Worth a visit. Ferndale is a great town too.
Has potential to be better. Went there to see a comedy show for Todd Barry who was freakin hilarious! They should definitely ditch at least 1/2 the tables for the next comedy show to make room for more chairs. There was probably 30+ people standing. They couldve easily sat down if they killed the useless tables.
This is a great venue!!! Lots of space to sit or stand....plus the different levels means everyone can see the stage!!! They had a pretty good selection of beer...no draft but that didnt really matter....and the staff were all friendly and helpful!!! I will definitely go back!!!
Cozy little venue with some big name acts! Went to see The Mother Hips and the Magic Bag. The sound was great. The venue is small, but its got a really cool vibe and ambiance. Drink prices were decent. Surrounding the venue are several great places to dine at before or after a show. Would definitely go back to catch more shows at such an intimate setting.
Magic Bag is a pretty good venue for its size. Its got a unique layout which can make it a little difficult to navigate when theres a large crowd but otherwise makes it much easier to see the stage from anywhere in the venue. Its also fantastic how many seating options there are. Thats a huge help to disabled folks trying to stay for an entire show. The bar also doesnt charge an arm and a leg for one beer which is super rare in any venue nowadays. Its still going to be slightly pricier than a dive bar bottle but way better than $9 for a can of pbr at a major spot.
Saw Dead Again here. They have limited seating, its a small venue and is a bit crowded but we still had a blast! The decor is cool and the band was awesome.
A very nice intimate venue to see a concert, even though seating is limited the staff makes up for with fast great service.
Great venue and great time listening to the bank and their versions of the best 80s music!! Definitely will be back for another great show!!
Great venue! Small, but not too small. Great acoustics, rad look and friendly staff.
Amazing venue, such a great atmosphere. Lots of seating for everybody, space for dancers up front. The decor feels like an old school theater and their band selection is so diverse you can certainly find something you like.
Unique, intimate space; great venue for music or comedy. staff is friendly and efficient.
Really enjoy the different shows offered. Ive visited for Class of 98 twice and wasnt disappointed, either time. The wait staff is attentive, even though there arent many staffed! Very impressed.
Great, fun place to see The Mega 80s rang in the New Year here & had a Blast!
Nice venue, great dance floor, with lots of other entertainment options nearby to make a night of it.
I love the acts they bring in. the mostly standing room only format is a little crowded and uncomfortable with awkward views in places.
Tickets are reasonably priced, but the seating is horrendous. We thought we were getting there early, but we did not get there early enough and had to stand the entire show. While trying to get comfortable, the same guy kept forcing us to have our backs against the wall. I understand for fire hazard purposes; but this is likely something that they should consider selling less tickets for.
Doors tribute band was A+++++ the venue was cool but seating a bit funny.
First time there for Kingfish show. Friends said to expect tables with small standing area. Only benches around the edges...no tables. People standing wall to wall. Never again...
Loved Old 97s both last week and last year. This is a great venue and Im sure Id be there a lot if I lived closer (its a long haul from Grand Rapids). Lots of intriguing acts!
Great acoustics and a very nice venue to see anyone. Everyone is up close.
Really cool spot. tonight was 90s night with live band performance, definitely took me back with all those classics. Will definitely be coming back. staff was very friendly/ tentative had a good time tonight.
Best concert venue in S/E Michigan
Awesome show great stage and sound... great drinks
Christone Ingram... Kingfish was awesome, walked around the venue and then out onto Woodward. Security was good about keeping anyone with drinks inside still, but it was a cool experience.Ive been here a number of times, Mega 80s, Taylor Davis, Reverend Peyton, and one or two others. Ive always had a good time. The bar is small but gets the job done, and they have popcorn. If youre coming to see someone big, get there early, it fills up fast, but standing room is still pretty good.
Willie Nile was spectacular in this intimate setting. Great place to see live music.
Good small venue and I really enjoyed the concert I went to see. The sound crew did a great job as there was a feed back issue early on they were able to isolate and fix.The only down side was the security after the show ended. Lots of people were still around for meet and greet with the bands and during this security was forcing people to only be around the bar area. After realizing a lost personal item after leaving I had to show purchases merch from the show as proof to get back in to the security that was yelling at us to leave. After coming back in I was almost tackled by another security person as I was going back to my table where I found the lost item. I appreciate being able to go back to get it but I dont want to feel that it is the staff/security is the biggest risk to my safety.
Drink prices were perfect loved rock star
Great place to see a show. Small but not too small, great sound and pulls great acts. Youll see some big names here in an intimate atmosphere. Service is always fast and friendly.
Nice venue, great acoustics, limited seating.
Its weird that the doorman tells me I should go to another bar whenever I go there by myself to meet my friends that are already inside. Its also embarrassing that they havent figured out how to do a misc charge for $10 to allow us to pay the cover with a card....doorman holds ID, pay with card, trade receipt with doorman for ID.
Saw Pauly Shore here. Good place. Cool layout. We will return for more shows.
Magic Bag is decent place to see a show. If you are seeing a movie or live comedy and you dont find a seat, youll have to stand in the back, which sucks, so show up early because its always gen admish. But if you see a band its pretty fun, just small and can get really crowded and hard to move from the front to the back and vice versa. Tons of bars and resutrants around Ferndale to hang out before and after the show and you can get a good parking spot but you may have to hunt for it.
One of my favorite places to see a show.
So much fun! Great venue!
I really hope some of the smaller artists I listen to decide to have a concert here.
Such a small venue that brings in big name acts, why would you go anywhere else?!? If a musician you like plays a show here, go see it!
Fun venue. Mostly standing room, some seating asking perimeter. See is layers- can get pretty steamy once the shows get going.
Great shows. Saw the Reeferman Duo, and Detroit tap
Fun, great musical groups, large dance floor
Went here with friends to see mega 80’s band. Band was good, had a great time. The venue is small so the band was easy to see, has good sound quality. There are no seats, only some wood benches flanking the sides of the venue. If you need to sit, get there at doors-open so you can get a bench. Bartenders were fast. Apparently they will let you run a tab because some guy skipped out on his after the show and the bouncers were combing the street for him.One bouncer was in charge of making sure the isle was clear...he walked in a circle around the venue the entire 4 hours we were there. I don’t expect bounces to be friendly, but I do expect them to be respectful to those who aren’t causing trouble. This guy did not make an effort to try to get around people, I saw him constantly hit his shoulder into people. He hit our friend so hard, she stumbled, almost fell and dropped her drink. My wife was swaying her arms overhead to one of the songs and accidentally bumped this bouncer - he got all in her face, I thought we were going to get kicked out. If they want to ensure clear isles, tru to not overbook your venue by 100 people. Must do his ego good to push women around and throw his shoulder into everyone.
Doors opened on time. Nice intimate venue. Can quickly grab your drinks from the bar. Also has a server coming around. Fun night!
Great place to see a show. Prices of shows and drinks are very reasonable and staff is friendly. Only downside is the headlining show usually doesnt start for 2 to 3 hours after doors open.
Great band (Lez Zeppelin), great crowd and great atmosphere! It was my first time and I definitely will be going back!
Nice place. That was my first time there. It was a lot smaller than what I had thought for having a concert there. But still a nice place.
This is probably the best music venue in the metro Detroit area. Its thoughtfully designed, with tiered levels going to the back of the venue so those farther away from the stage can still see. There is lots of seating around the edges, but still room to stand and dance if thats your jam. There are also little tables and ledges everywhere to put your drink while you enjoy the show. It really adds a level of comfort no other venue has.
Small venue with a lot of character.
Same staple its always been. Great venue to see a band for a decent price. I wish theyd modernize into 2019 and actually have a basic cocktail menu, perhaps thats wishful thinking of a hipster
Clear site lines from front to back and is acoustically pleasing.
Probably never go back. Two bad experiences. Rude doorman the first time, and 2nd time arrived before 8, all seats taken. Had to stand for an hour and a half before the show and then all during the show which wasnt even good.
Always enjoy shows at the Magic Bag. The bar is well stocked with something for everyone, there are good views and ample seating; although if you want a seat you should arrive early. Its not so big that the sound gets lost and distorted nor is it too small making it too loud and cramped.
Great place to see a show. Sound quality and acoustics are always good.
Great small venue for shows. Drinks are reasonably priced as well.
Kingfish played beyond expectation, orderly standing room only crowd
Very pleasant little surprise. The venue has an old movie theater feel and its fantastic to watch a show in! The stage is very visible from any area in the venue and you really cant go wrong seeing a show here.
Intimate room for concerts...great sound...
Went to a great show, which is not unusual for the Magic Bag. What I dont like is the general admission policy, which necessitates that you arrive well before the show, and line up outside, in order to get a good seat at a table. They sell drinks at the bar, and they also have table service. They really pack people in, including standing room.
Super friendly waitresses, very fast service, great show, one security guard was kind of hassling only the most non-threatening people, which was amusing to watch, but everyone/everything else was great.
Cool but limited seating.
Love this venue very intimate place to see really good bands!
Intimate concert venue. Nice place to catch some great live music and cover bands.
Wow enjoyed the place, intimate and great fun service!!!
Fantastic Venue!! Like a private concert.
This place is great for concerts and safe. The staff is the best. The bar is friendly and fast service at good prices.
Ive been to the Magic Bag numerous times in the past for movies, but this was the first time I went for a concert. Considering that we brought almost 70 people to the venue to celebrate a birthday, the staff was unaccommodating in advance and incredibly rude at the end of the night. They literally pushed us toward the door about ten minutes after the band left the stage. People were still finishing drinks and waiting in line to cash out. Im not sure why they sell drinks close to the end of the concert, if they wont give you time to finish them. I dont think any of us would ever return to the Magic Bag after that experience.
Nice, intimate venue.
Good concert venue and they serve drinks
Great venue. Great bar. Great drink service to those out on the floor during concerts. One of my favorite venues. Id recommend getting there early for the big shows because theres usually a line waiting for the doors to open and it fills up quick. For the smaller shows, youre fine to show up after the doors open and still get a good spot.
Very interesting venue
Nothing better than Dead Again at the Magic Bag!
Ive never had a bad time here! Great live music, clean bathrooms, fast bartenders, fun atmosphere. The crowd ages are completely across the board, so if youre looking for a spot to go where you wont feel too old or too young, this is the place. Ive only come here on Saturday nights and its set up like a concert space with standing room only, except a bench along the wall. It is tiered a bit so you can still see regardless of where youre standing, but if you need a seat for the show, get there when the doors open and grab a spot on the bench. It fills up fast and theres a good reason why! Enjoy!
I came in from out of town to see Dead Again, The Magic Bag has always been a home town favorite and they never disappoint ! Plus the new legalization laws made the show interesting as we all piled out onto the streets during set break ... lol PpP
Love it!
Intimate venue for live music & great bar staff!
Love the venue!!! Very relaxed vibe. The bands are good, the bartenders are friendly. They have areas where you can sit and areas where you can stand so which ever you prefer is available. The drinks are decent size for the price.
Good small venue.
Best small, local venue to see a show!
The Mega 80s are AWESOME!!!
Nice small place to see a concert. Problem is wait staff. Just not enough of them. One woman going from table to table.
Great place to catch a show! Enjoyed it immensely
