I visited the park on the Saturday of the Labor Day weekend. Many people were here to dig clams, play in the water, picnic/BBQ, and hike. There were many picnic tables, and I was able to find one for lunch. I then hiked the Thames Creek Trail and proceeded to the Outbound Trail. At one point of the Outbound Trail, there was a sign that read Restricted Dangerous as well as some yellow tape that blocked the way. The yellow tape had been damaged. Being a good citizen, I turned around and headed back to the parking lot. There was another trail that led to a campground. I may consider camping here next time.
We loved this park! We visited when the tide was out and you can see all sorts of small tide pools and sea creatures. There are a lot of picnic tables but the park fills up fast, I recommend arriving early. We saw people kayaking and kids brought skim boards. It is dog friendly and it’s so nice walking on the sand with your pup.
Lots of thick vegetation but not overrun by mosquitoes. Plenty of parking ( the lot is humongous but hardly anybody there in comparison ) and out-of-the-way, seclusion is available. Great things to photograph. Theres a freshwater stream there but not much in the way of stillwater we rs or bogs that breed mosquitoes... then theres trails and walks and nice, easy, paved trail to beach with entertaining scenery along the way, and unique beach setting including driftwood. If youre into adventuring, traveling and exploring parks along The Puget Sound, this is one youll want to add to your photographs, memories, and places-youve-been collection. It wouldnt be complete without it.
Make sure to go at low tide! During low tide its a huge beach of soft sand - perfect for running youre dogs or taking a gentle walk along the water (5/5). During high tide its a tiny beach of all sticks and rocks (1/5).
Nice views nice trails. Also seen a creepy weird guy with a hood and full black face mask with only the eyes visible (cutouts) on boundary trail.Ladies if you come here alone I suggest you carry pepper spray or something. It is federal way after all and its a little sketchy in this area.
Close to home, beach access, hiking and biking trails (mtn bike), campsites with and without hookups, often open campsites w/o reservations (not as popular since it’s close to suburbia), lots of parking for day use (though it can fill up on busy days). My photos are of campsite #69, and where Hoyt Road trail intersects Shannon’s Shin trail.Tip #1: if you want to use the trails but don’t have a discover pass there are other access points, like the one on Northpoint Way East.Tip #2: you can buy a discover pass from the park ranger at the campground entrance booth without paying the extra $5 fee if you buy it online or from a retailer.Tip #3: If you’re a rookie at camping this is a great place to start, because it’s probably close to home and it’s embedded in the Seattle Tacoma area, so you’re not far from anything. If it’s your first time and hesitant to camp, I recommend spending a night or two here to get a feel for what all you need (and don’t) before going somewhere far and out of the way.If you can afford a discover pass, buy one! It directly supports maintaining our beautiful state parks, which have seen drastic funding cuts. There are many awesome parks you can visit with it. Maybe if you buy one it will encourage you to make use of it and get outside more?Hope this helps, have fun!
The beach area is very small and super crowded with families and groups on the weekends. Picnic Point trail is extremely steep imo. Its a nice park on weekdays, but pick somewhere else on weekends if youre looking for something more secluded/relaxed.
Beautiful and warm.Plenty of beach and driftwood for sitting. Easy access to the beach. $10 day pass parking podium, takes cards! We had a blast, will definitely be coming back
Cute spot. Not much each to walk when the tide is in, but I hear there is quite a bit when it is out. There are some hiking trails we did not get to explore. We will be back.
Great place to experience the Puget Sound. The beach next to the parking lot is usually crowded but there is plenty of shoreline if you walk a bit north. Be careful with logs, especially at high tide they have barnacles or something on them that will rip your shins to shreds
Firstly, I just have to say what a positive and amazing experience I had at this campground. The volunteers were friendly, kind and absolutely awesome to interact with. Also, the camp was clean and beautifully laid out. I will definitely be camping here again the next time we go to Washington. Thank you Dash Point for being so amazing!
We walked a couple of trails near the beach today and will def be back to try the others. We got there at noon and it wasn’t busy. The trails are pretty narrow, and in most places there is room to pass people safely. About half the people we saw had on masks. All dogs are on leashes, and most owners tightened up on the leashes when people passed. The trails we took were to narrow for strollers and I wouldn’t recommend trying to bring one. I had my 2yr old nephew and had to baby wear (carry) him for the majority of the hike. There are maps in clearing areas that show where you are and how you can connect to other trails. Trail signs are posted above eye level on the trees in certain areas. By the time we finished our hike and got to the beach the tide was getting high so we didn’t get to explore the beach. I wish I would have checked the tide chart like the other reviews recommended.
Absolutely love walking the miles of trails in the woods with my dogs. They love the area as well. I usually go out here later in the evening when theres less people so I can let the dogs run free for a bit. They love it. Most people out here are courteous. Havent had a single bad experience yet.
Great escape with well groomed trails. It can be a bit congested at peak times but overall people are respectful of ones anothers space. Highly recommend for a dose of nature.
Dash Point State Park a nice trail and beach combination tucked away in Federal Way!Once youre done walking the trail, it is nice to relax on the waters. The beach itself is not my favorite as it is not sandy like Alki and Golden Gardens. It is more like wet solid sand/dirt with sandy areas here and there You can reference my photos to understand. However, it is still quite nice to enjoy the view and relax. Based on my experienced it is quieter in comparison to other beaches.
Because we can hook the motor home up to electricity water and sewage, and most of all the assistance I got from the park ranger was awesome
Dash Point is a beautiful park that has awesome trails and a gorgeous beach! The beach is huge, plenty of space to spread out and take in the views. Discover Pass required or pay at the parking lot- worth it!
The campground is well organized, taking advantage of terrain features to make each site feel a bit separate from each other. The facilities are convenient and kept clean. The sand beach across the road is easily accessed by foot or vehicle. I would camp here again.
Beautiful beaches, lots of trails, camping.. Only downside is its packed on the weekends, but mostly people are really chill with friends and family here.
Beautiful area! Sandy beaches but they fill up fast. If you want a picnic table you need to come in the morning. Campgrounds are nice and spacious. A little slice of heaven just outside the city.
Anytime you can go to the ocean. pick up shells. and smell the sea salt in the air its a good thing. Hehehe. My dogs enjoyed it. they were wore out when we got home.
Love this park. Beautiful bikes and scenery. Can get crowded. Dont go at night. Dont camp here. It has a camping section, wouldnt recommend it to family or sober people.
Love the campground! Although I will say finding your campsite for first timers can be hard with all of the one way roads and some missing signs. But once we found our campsite we absolutely loved our experience! Lots of privacy and well kept sites.
A nice beach with some sand and lots of walking trails. Watch the ships and boats go by
(Review is hiking focused)there is multiple easy access points to a surprisingly large state park with lots of trails for being surrounded by houses. The trails are quite honestly fantastic to walk on and are very pretty. But they are narrow and there is little to no signage in the upper park with quite a bit of graffiti so beware and bring a map and compass or even just your phone. There is parking at the park but on a warm enough day it can fill up pretty quickly but considering it has multiple entry points that is not a big deal. This is a good trail system for beginning hikers since while the trail system is quite expansive and easy to get lost on if you dont know what you are doing the park is small enough that even if trees are covering them you are never too far from a house and as such aid. Plus encountering people who live in the area and know the place like the back of their hand on the trail is quite common and most if not all can either give directions or lead you out themselves. Overall great trails although kind of dirty and so so signage.
Always a favorite and plenty of room to distance. Great place for varnish clams.
Beautiful place to take the kids. Its a hidden gem. I recommend you come early to snag a picnic table. My kids love all the sand and trails.
We saw a beautiful sunset. And enjoyed walking through the trail.
Pretty nice park. When I went yesterday there were closures on some of the trails so something to keep in mind if you go in the near future.
Love this place. Closest thing to a California beach we get. Plenty of parking, it is not free to come unless you pay for a day pass or have a discovery pass. If however you are walking, it is free. The shower wash off area is off. There are restrooms. Animals are welcome. They have picnic benches and also one gazebo with a bbq for anyone who wants to have a picnic or sunday bbq with the family. There are also a lot of hiking trails here as well.
Nice place to go camping nice place to take your family for a walk down to the beach watch sunset and let your kids play in the sand
Great local beach! Shallow and sandy. Great for kids.
Bring the Washington Pass to Enter Hiking and Park. Its nicest quiet in the forest.
Great beach area for kids. Tide was low and we walked and my 3 year old played with the sea shells. Park is clean and well maintained. People were all social distancing. Half the parking lot is closed which limits the number of people. I greatly appreciate that. Will definitely be back!
Nice beach with easy access to the water. Plenty of shade from trees with logs you can sit on.
Dash Point State Park is a nice park to visit and photograph.Good parking lot.Nice walking trails.
My girlfriend and I enjoyed camping here alot. The campsites were all very clean and all the other campers were very friendly. Most of which were families of many diverse ethnicities. Dash point makes for a great one or two day camping trip even if you bus there, which is what we did. It is easy to get to and there are a few miles of trails for hiking or biking.
Super sandy. Moderate amount of people were there, but able to easily social distance. Lots of seaweed and sea creatures for the kids to explore. Beautiful sunsets too
Very pretty park. Great access to the water. Heads up for those concerned about COVID, it was very crowded when I was there. Everyone was careful to maintain distance but theres only so much you can do when theres a lot of kids running around.
Really nice sandy beach...which is rare for Seattle area beaches. Plenty of space to socially-distance and enjoy the beach even on a busy day.
Too many unleashed large dogs and people who camp right at the entrance so you cant keep a safe distance trying to get down the beach. Covid haven waiting for you... Have fun!!
This park is huge and nice! Lots trails, little streams which is really good for dogs. There are couple of lakes. It’s really good for hiking and biking. On the side of the park there’s a really nice park for kids and at the end of the park there is a beach. It’s a total package!! Love this park!!
Great place to play in water or on sand. Even when the tide is coming in the water is still rather shallow. I recommend looking at a tide calendar before coming so you know if the tide will be high or not. Definitely recommend coming at low to mid tide for water play.
Camped here for 1 night really enjoyed my stay
A beautiful state park in the middle of the city. Plenty of trails, beautiful beach, nice little stream and some cool riding trails. What more could you ask for. All around there are cute little benches where you cna bring your family to picnic, a perfect little get away in the middle of a city.
Love this park. So many different trails to walk and you can walk for a long time. Love that is on the beach as well, so you can see water which is my favorite.
Took my family out on the beach. Such a Lovely sandy beach with clamshells and sand dollars. It is a treat to have this beach near the cities! Was not too crowded on a lightly rainy afternoon during the pandemic, parking has been minimized so as not to get too crowded. Beach is large enough to maintain social distancing. Bathroom was open and clean with soap to wash hands.
I dont have anything else to compare to. I went for the trail hike, which was OK,if not quite confusing. Thankfully, I had all trails app installed. There are a lot of diverging paths along the way and signs not placed very well. I would expect novices, like me to get lost if they arent prepared. The paths do seem well maintained though. And, if you can read the maps, you can somewhat create your own trail. Theres also a $10 rec fee.
This is a great place to trail run with lots of options to add up the miles! Signs are not always visible on the trails, so it might be a good idea to take a pictire of the map if you are concerned about finding your way.
A beautiful park with good trails! Unfortunately it was a rainy day and trails were partially closed!
Wonderful natural atmosphere! So relaxing and enjoying.
Fantastic park with plenty of picnic tables. There are a few spots with a grill but those I believe are the spots you reserve. Pay for parking and check if you have a discover pass. Multiple restrooms throughout the park. Dogs allowed on beach on leash. Tide goes out really far, perfect for skim boarding.
Lots of trails, beach and parking can get crowded but its very nice. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed. Seems well maintained and the rangers have always been nice.
This park has easy beach access for walking, forest trails for hiking, picnic areas, and camping. Beautiful park! It is also close enough to town that you can make a quick run (in your vehicle) to a local market or restaurant.
Decent parking, it was busy but we had no problem finding a spot. The beach area was crowded, but we had a nice vantage from the top of the beach to the water.
Camping was super fun, but the most fun was on the beach in the morning. The tide was so far out. There are so many sand dollars, alive and dead, carefully where you walk, you dont wanna crush them. I have never in my life seen hundreds of sand dollars anywhere. Its was fascinating to just be there and be present. You will love it.
Tons of parking. Lots if beach to walk when the tide is low... Miles and miles of hiking with groomed Trails. BEAUTIFUL
This is a wonderful public Beach. This has some of the best sand for sand castles, that is within a quick drive from Tacoma. Check the tide schedule and go when the tide is low. Also make sure you get a Discovery Pass from the state of Washington for parking. Otherwise you will need to pay for a day pass (cash only).
I like this campground. Its a good weekend getaway. I little pricey for tent camping but its probably the same everywhere in this area. They have a variety of spaces to fit big or small camping gear so that was cool.
Walked around for 4 hours and it was absolutely lovely. Although there is a lot of people the trail is large enough for you to comfortably walk around and explore without people constantly being around you.
Its a nice place to go but it is kinda small. Both times weve gone it has been packed. Probably not the best place to go given the climate. However, week days arent nearly as packed
Nice sandy beach. Kids loved to beach comb and skimboard
One of my all time favorite places to visit and hike! You do have to pay five dollars to park unless you have a pass. If you dont want to pay, you can also park further up and hike the Norpoint trails down for free. I highly recommend doing this! Great bird watching, usually a seal or two, and not very crowded during the week unless its extraordinary weather. Either way, if you want to take a picnic, might be worth bringing a blanket to sit on as picnic tables near the water fill up fast.
Place to go for a quick run
Non hook-up sites small and dirty bathrooms but beach is cool
The sand is like pudding, its so much fun to play with. It seems like a lot of families enjoy coming together, with toys and tools for digging up clams. Theres a small stream that flows from the forest onto the beach that carves grooves into the malleable sand. There are also trails, a picnic area, and a bathroom on site. A discover pass is normally required to park (sometimes there are free access days)
Nice little jaunt to the sound. Has public bathrooms and at low tide you can walk way out. Some do clamming. Park is a great place to picnic.
Hardly crowded nice place to escape without going too far
Great park but one of the busiest ones weve been to. Id high suggest driving south to an Olympia area park if you want a quieter trip.
Beautiful beach mostly sandy with a few rocky areas. Public bathrooms and outdoor wash station available. Nice trails, streams and different types of wildlife around to see. Pets are allowed unleashed on the beach, leashed everywhere else and owners expected to pickup after them. Great place to pack a picnic and enjoy the sunset while smelling the incredible ocean breeze!
Great place for a quick hike near the city.
Had a wonderful family day! Easy to stay socially distant with the tide out. The amount of parking was cut in half and admission monitored to ensure that the park wasnt packed.
Great place to spend with family and friends, no rough water and you can paddle board and inner tube
Love this place ... water is shallow so its warmer than most places on the sound
The beach isnt good for swimming or paddle boarding. The drainage leading to the beach and connecting the campsites to the beach is atrocious, overall good scenery and clams to dig for at the beach
Always a great place to unwind and relax and the dogs love it!
Very quiet and clean. Ample parking spots for 10$ and park closes at 9:00 pm
Nice area. View could be better. A few transients hanging around.
Nice view of Puget Sound. Good place to walk along the beach. Picnic tables and grills. Very cool firepit.
This particular is among the best in the King county. Very accessible. Offers beach activities as well as the camping site. The wood is charming. You have all chances to see predatory birds like eagles if you dont stick to the cel phone screen. :)
You cant beat Washingtons trees and beautiful scenery what more could you want in a relaxing environment where your family and children
Very nice beach but the shower was not running. Not very fun having to figure out a way to rinse my kiddo off before getting in the car.
Me and grandkids had fun. It wasnt crowded and we all did social distancing.
Took the kids spur of the moment camping, it was amazing and we all loved it! They were accommodating to our list minute decision, and even when we asked for a different space they changed it no problem!
Nice park with lots of parking. But the fact that we have to pay to enjoy this place makes it bad. It has trails, camping & picnic spots.
Really crowded. Have a little bit of smell.
Havent had any problems here super easy to get to parking is always good and shaded. Bathrooms are decent and they have a shower to wash sand off. Not much more I could ask for.
Once passed the seaweed cooking smell and made it to the beach it was great!!! There are sand dollars to explore and learn from . There is sand on the shore down into the water.
If you want a ticket, come here! There were no signs leading you to where you had to pay and only one sign that we didnt even see coming in saying that passes were available. I had no idea I had to pay for anything and we were blindsided. I saw many other people in the parking lot with no pass. This is literally ticket bait for people who are new to the area. The guy who gave them out parks in the way back and just stares at you. They just let you drive straight in without saying anything to you. I didnt even notice the pay terminal until AFTER we were leaving thats how badly its setup. I wont ever be coming here again.
Dash Point is a nice sandy beach. The kids enjoy playing in the sand and trekking out to the water at low tide to look for sand dollars and clams.
Beautiful place with a hiking trail that is a cardiovascular challenge if you push yourself a bit.
T b e area was nice and parking was abundant, but the water was very very dirty. Maybe it between seasons.
