Met up with a few friends today for the Lady Day play and wow! Wow! And wow again! Even with social distancing Cape Fear Regional Theater knows how to really craft a play. I was literally transported to 1959 to a small, smoky club in South Philadelphia to see Billie Holiday perform. The four actors provided an amazing performance with live music and acting. The woman playing Billie showcased the songstresses beauty, tragedy, and history. Which all came to life in an hour and 30 minutes on a crafted outdoor stage. There were about 40 of us in attendance on a beautiful day.It was great to spend mt second weekend in Fayetteville supporting the local arts and I cannot wait to return. They definitely need to do this more often with the beautiful weather we are having now. Also the process of ordering tickets and selecting seats online was so easy! Only suggestion I would have for next time is have the actors introduce themselves at the end and maybe have a short Q&A as this is such a powerful play it would be great to hear from the actors about their experience. Please continue with the outdoor arts Cape Fear Regional theater! I will be back!
I have been doing CFRT theatre camps and bcpe since i was 8 years old. In 2019 we moved and I was unable to do bcpe that year as well as the following year because of covid. I will say there is nothing in the world that compares to being on stage at Cape fear regional theatre. I will most definitely be doing bcpe in 2021. Every moment at cfrt has been a great one. (shout out to ms. erin and mr. marc) CFRT has instilled a passion for theatre in me. if you are considering being in or seeing a show. do it. You will not regret it. I love you Cape Fear Regional Theatre.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every production I have had the pleasure of seeing here. The seating could be a bit more comfy. The staff are mostly pleasant with a few exceptions.
Love love it!! Especially Mr.Mark my daughter loves his class and work!!
I saw Memphis last night! My wife saw Annie a few months or so ago.We are in awe of the amazing top talent! They deserve to perform to an audience 10 times the size! The choreography and costumes were detailed and flawless without being distracting. The band was wonderful and sounded so great! The set was simple and well thought out to add to the scenes and change easily. The venue was clean, very well maintained. The staff and volunteers were incredibly kind and helpful from ticket purchase through the entire show and afterwards. The musical had awesome music. It handled race issues in about 1960s with grace and without getting preachy or too graphic or heavy.I can not say enough about the cast! The acting, dancing, singing, timing, yea, everything was Broadway quality!Tickets for shows like this would go for substantially more elsewhere. This theater is a blessing to your community!Go see a show!
We just moved to the area and saw a sign while driving by. Not knowing anything about the theater or show, we bought tickets for that night. The show was AMAZING! We went to the preview night and got discount tickets at a party table right in front of the stage. Acting and singing was great, environment was cozy, and staff was so nice. Even my fiance who doesnt care for theater loved it and wants to go back.
Show cased the rich cultural history of the Lumbee American Indian Tribe in the play, lumBEES: Women of the Dark Water!
Absolutely gorgeous productions, with a wonderful mix of big, popular shows and intimate brain ticklers.
Another fantastic performance is about to begin! If you enjoy live performances, dont miss a show offered here. The staff is superb in preparing each and every event.
I have been here twice; once to see Ash Breeze in concert, and on 4/20/16 to see Arsenic and Old Lace. Staff was very nice, and the play was great. Only complaints are the seating and temperature. Seats are from the 1920s -- too small and crowded together. Time for a seat upgrade. They need a few ceiling fans, or better air conditioning. The air was not moving. I had to go into the hall at intermission to cool down. I do plan to go back and see more plays.
Annie was amazing! Great staff, an beautiful Production!
How do you audition for upcoming shows?
Overall rating: 3.5/5 (I would attend again.)The production I attended was Caroline or change in the 2016, 2017 season. As a whole the musical was a pleasurable experience but it felt unpolished which is uncharacteristic considering it was the second to last showing. The main problem had to do with the movements on stage, after the 6th time an actor turned their back while still reciting a line I stopped counting. The corography had no soul. There was a few staging issues. Finally there was a park bench left on stage that blocked view of a whole scene for the front rows. The skill range of actors was interesting. There was a child that was better than average who played Noah. But then the actor that played his father might as well have recited his lines from backstage as he was lifeless, I get that Noahs father is broken and defeated but there is a way to convey those emotions that wont bore the audience (go watch Fences with Denzel). The rest of the cast was very pleasant to watch and were well cast. The music in this production was well done and sounded professional. The set was fantastic, the use of hidden doors and rotating walls was really well done, and the way the Moon was portrayed was very surprising and honestly a highlight of the show. The venue was nice, the seats are a little small for a tall guy like myself but the show was good enough that I really didnt notice. The staff was very friendly and concessions were provided at charge.TLDR; Cape fear does a good job, needs some elbow grease to be a great job but I will definitely be there for the 2017, 2018 season.
Be prepared to fall in love and be addicted. CFRT will blow you away. For the size of this smallish town theater, it packs a HUGE punch. Nearly every seat in the house is a premium seat as compared to a larger theater, and the tickets are half the price. You are up close and personal to all the action and every show leaves you wanting more. If you have been on the fence about attending ANY show at Cape Fear Regional Theater, you need to bite the bullet and go see a show. There is careful thought, energy and heart put into each production and Fayetteville is spoiled to have such a lively little theater in their hands. Well done CFRT. Cannot wait to see what you do next!
I loved it. I did a Theater camp there and loved it. I did it for two years in a row so far.I hope this helps!
Saw The Fiddler on the Roof last night and enjoyed everything about the experience! Great job CFRT, I will be back!
First, I will admit that the seating is a little cozy. As long as you stay open minded and try not to let it bother you, the performances will quickly take your mind off the seating. Other than that, I prefer the intimacy of this theater better than the grandeur of DPAC. The staff are very polite and efficient and the plays are so entertaining. From what I understand the majority of the actors and actresses are from all over the place and they do a great job of selecting the right character for the role. Weve seen The Three Musketeers, The Wiz, and The Hounds of Baskerville, all of which were fantastic and the commitment of the actors/actresses draws you into the story theyre playing out. I would watch The Wiz over and over again, they did such a fantastic job, and The Hounds of Baskerville, while supported by many, was acted out by only 5 performers who put on a fantastic show as they juggled through their comedic roles. I cant say enough good things. We will be back as often as possible!
Great place for live Broadway type plays.
Fantastic place to work! CFRT has experienced and talented staff, a driven artistic director, and an incredibly supportive community.
Last Saturday my husband and I went and saw Santaland Diaries. I have never been more disappointed in a theatre performance. We paid a total of $54 for tickets. This one man production lasted a little over an hour. The entire play was one man sitting in a chair talking. There was literally nothing more to it. I would say 20% of the audience was sleeping. I am just disappointed because we love local theatre, we just moved here, and we will NEVER go back to this theatre.
It is amazing and has great opportunities for the whole family
So far So Good, I will plan to come out more!!!
Went there last night, will never go again. Ive never been treated so poorly at any theater, ranging from tiny community theaters to the Metropolitan Opera. I have no idea who Cape Fear Regional Theater thinks they are, but Ill never pay anyone to treat me that way again, period. Really, they should point a gun at you if thats how theyre going to be.Side note: I asked Santa to have David Sedaris sue this miserable place out of existence.
Awesome place and staff
Wonderful experience, very welcoming.
Love it here
