I had some time to kill, and the museum complex exceeded my expectations. The admission is free, and I was more than happy to donate. This is a great museum for the area, but the real gem is the tour in the Victorian house of EA Poe. This is not THE Edgar Allan Poe whom is the famous writer, but rather someone from the area whom was progressive that sent his six daughters to college. Highly recommend the Poe tour that makes this place shine.
Very enjoyable historical museum! Quite a bit of history, along with hands on exhibits for the young at heart, and children. Free parking, free admission.... priceless memories!
Great complex that includes an interpretive walk to the arsenal, museum of NC interest going back to theArchaic Period, and wonderful tour of the adjacent Victorian Poe House.
If you are willing to get off the paved walkway and onto the wooded trails you are in for a true hiking delight. The Owls Roost Trail is about 5 miles and hugs the lake shoreline much of the way. A few challenging spots will get your heart pumping. You can really get away from it all and still be only 10 minutes from downtown Greensboro.
Love visiting the Poe. An interesting part of our citys early families.
Now, we didnt finish the whole museum due to it was time for the tour of the Poe House.. But regardless of that, it was an amazing place to visit. Whats crazy is we have lived here majority of our life & did not even know that this museum was even here.
Very interesting complex and good neighbors! Very nice staff and you owe it to yourself to take a tour and with your family if you have one. And take a tour of St Michaels Church right across the street. Its a unique building you will enjoy as well.
I grew up here and didnt know about this place. Its a shame really because I feel like I missed out on this outstanding piece of local history. Glad I got to finally see and experience it
Very educational! We learned about early exploration and settlement, American Indians, Civil War, Gulf War and more!! I look forward to visiting Arsenal Park as well as the 1879 Poe house during my next visit.
Pics of the museum and the Edgar Allen Poe house nextdoor.with my two cousins and my grandchild we had a great time and Wilma was a wonderful tour guide
Neat and well kept. Lots to see and the house is interesting. Very friendly and informative staff
Very interesting. Behind the Museum is a short walkway that crosses a pedestrian bridge over the highway. They also do a tour of the old Poe House which is next door to the museum
Great museum! 1897 Poe House is a must see. Free admission. Historic house is by guided tour only, tour times daily.
The price is right (free!) but they do take donations. If you do just the museum, you will like spend less than an hour there...even reading every sign. The Pope House tour is a must as it is beautifully restored and preserved and the guide seems to know every detail of the Pope family and houses history.
This is one of the hidden gems here in Cumberland County, a great place to visit for the afternoon.
A great asset to the Fayetteville area. I highly recommend visiting.
When I moved to Fayetteville I wanted to know more about this town history. Comming to this museum was really helpful. Theres a lot you can learn in here and I definately recommend anyone visiting to stop by and enjoy this place.
Great place to learn more about Fayettevilles history
One of our family favorites! This place comes alive... especially during events, such as the Festival of Yesteryear and the upcoming Holiday Jubilee!
My husband and I brought our toddler here after hiking around Carvers Creek State Park and we were blown away by how much they have packed into this space! I loved their temporary display on A Python Called George and my toddler loved the toy train upstairs. Both my husband and I were astounded by the number of displays, and the receptionist was very friendly.Would highly recommend if you want to drop in for some interactive history displays, and is extremely child-friendly.
Love the history of the area. Great displays and friendly staff.
Considering it is a historical site in a small town, they do a pretty good job. It is also free and accessible to those with disabilities.
Super surprised! LOTS of great information, we needed more time.
Museum is great for all ages. Very good tour guide to the Poe House, and seeing the Arsenal and grounds across the highway. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.
Had a great time this morning with my three-and-a-half-year-old. We explored the museum and then walked over with a tour guide to the poe house next door. Luckily we were the only ones so the tour was geared towards her! The girl was very kind and patient and luckily my three-year-old was very engaged! Thank you for the hospitality everyone!
My dai3ghter and I attended the Halloween tour, quick 20min.
I had a wonderful time. The Poe House tour was well done. Perfect for a boring day
Spent a couple of hours here on a hot June afternoon. Lots of great displays covering history from early native American migration into the cape fear area through the civil war . No crowds .No admission . Well worth your time.

The best adventures are the ones you stumble on. I learned a lot while I was here. The historian that gave me the tour was very personable & informative.
Had a great time, perfect for both adults and kids. Amazing self guided walk through tour with a historical depiction of the area. Touch bags were great for the kids with items they could feel while following along the accompanying written dialog.

The poe house from 1980 was the only thing that really amazed me .. They let you tour the house at 12pm 1 pm & 3pm
I recommend this museum during your visit to Fayettville, NC. Admission is $1.00 for the all of the sites at the museum.
Excellent museum! A great place to go! Thank you!
Surprisingly good. No expectation going in, as it is a local free museum. Mostly covers pre civil war history. Highlight was the steamboat mock up.
