This management is an absolute nightmare! Tenants are harassed, retaliated against and monitored, with new rules appearing weekly. The building is a mess and THERE ARE NO AMENITIES. Not even a garbage disposal. All areas of the building can and will be closed frequently due to lazy managers. Don’t live here!!!!!!!!
Ive lived here since 2009, Im very grateful for this space. Sad that my water view is blocked by the new buildings but I can still go up to the roof. Friendly people living here, everything is very clean and well maintained.
I took enough notes of my negative experiences living here to write a novel, which no one would read. Instead, let me summarize it in the resident managers own words:This is a residential building, for artists.Sounds nice enough, but let me unpack that for you. It means though the building appears to be art oriented at first glance, it is actually a residential building populated in part by artists who may create art there but are encouraged to show that art elsewhere. If one deigns to display their art in the halls or lobby area, 5 residents (some or all of which may not be artists) can force you to take it down because they find it offensive. Take a moment to think about the likelihood of someone finding something offensive in todays world. Take a moment to think about the kind of environment that allows artists to censor other artists. Does that sound like a constructive artist community to you? One artist friend actually had the police called on an abstract painting he hung in the hall. There is a high woke factor in this building. If youre woke enough, this place is for you (maybe). If not, you will quickly find the climate becoming hostile.I encourage anyone interested in living in this place to talk to a few long time residents not exclusively chosen for you by resident management to get a feel for what its actually like. I cant speak for what the other Artspace buildings are like, Ive heard good things. But this one has been dysfunctional since its inception. One star actually earned for:-Hard to beat value of space/cost.-Toilet flushes very well.-No pest problems.Four stars deducted for:-Psychological trauma.
Artspace changed my life in a way that will follow me for the rest of my daysthis place showed me the ups and downs of being a part of a community but if you want a true living breathing community, this is the place to be.i made so many friends in my time spent there, and relationships with people that i will never forget.with any community there is always the common struggle of tiny arguments, but as long as you yourself are a relatively chill person you wont come into any trouble.my tips to future residents are these:-communicate in a timely manner with management, it will make their job easier and they will appreciate it-talk to your neighbors next to you! the walls can be kind of thin as well so keep them in mind-dont cause conflict on purpose, it will get you nowhere-COMMON SENSE!overall my experience was a very positive one. the cons were heavily outweighed by the affordable cost to live therepros:-community is alive, most people are friendly-garden space on the roof helps you feel not like a city slave-huge open units-ada accessible!-very good bathroomscons:-no disposal in sinks/ no dishwasher-no washer and dryer in unit, have to pay a hefty amount for each load (sometimes upwards of 4-8$)-rent increases every year are a little too big for people with limited income and if youre not careful can catch up to you
I am a resident and can write a novel on the way in which this placr is run also. Brief example: carpets never cleaned, entire building is filthy, tenants requests are returned qith excuses and lies, people living here are traumatized ny harassment. No one cares. Just go to the front door. Look at the pond, windows, etc. It is not pleasant. Everything i have stated has other residents with documentation of the same. Even people around town say they have heard. Still, nothing is doneAs Peter Frampton says, its Just a Plain Shame!!!
My personal experience here as an internationally known artist who makes my living doing my art, it has been 4 years of censorship and harrassment for my art. The managers who live in the building yell at tenants and take down art they disagree with. They have personal issues with many of the artists here.
A good place for those of us who are artists .
Traveled to your area last year, I was in AWE of the facility that is provided to artists, the lobby and halls are a gallery of so many different artists styles, halls are Filled with AWESOME works, the mission statement that Artspace Everett Lofts have...being fulfilled. Koodoos to you for providing an arena for these artists that is open-minded for them to be able to produce their artwork freely, as in freedom of expression!!!...Being from the Upper Midwest, the judgement of artist works is conservative, so many can Not!! express them selves....YOU!!! provide your artist with that sanctuary...AWESOME!!!...That!!! makes you standout as the place for them to go. Many beautiful artists produced controversial artwork, Diego Velazquez, Caravaggio, Otto Dix, The Last Judgement by Michelangelo ...great work, yet by a closed minded...controversial....and The Nude, by Francisco Goya...So.....To Artspace Everett Lofts.....Hats off to you...for being up to date.
