Daves Down to Earth Rock Shop.

I have been very pleased with the customer service at Daves. I have found that employees are friendly, patient and sufficiently knowledgeable about the vast number of different minerals that they sell. The free museum in the basement is an extra treat and I think the prices are good too. A great place to buy a gift or supplies for a project!

I have never been to a more well stocked rock shop in all my days. Every stop has been pleasant. I just wish you were closer to my home, its a 5 hour drive! Thank you for my wonderful shopping experience(s) here.

I went in today with my bestfriend in the afternoon. This is the second time I’ve come into the shop and both experiences were amazing. All the staff are friendly and casual, and give you time and space to wander and choose crystals etc. This is the largest crystal/fossil shop I’ve personally come across, and it has something for everyone. The person who checked my items out this time was very polite and patient as well as generous. I can say that this is probably the best crystal shop I’ve been to (: There is also a mini museum downstairs, full off fossils, dino bones, and insects in amber. Beautiful experience!

I went here with my dad who loves jewelry and fossils and it was the perfect place. They have a great selection of stones and jewelry, and their fossil collection is superb! You can buy real fossils right in Evanston. Conveniently by the train as well.

I was casually browsing with my friend who wanted to buy some rocks and I came across the gem stone jewelry section. Ended up buying blue topaz earrings that were cheaper than on an retail shop. I would recommend buying jewelry.

Oh my God. What James and Suzanna have done with place! Its like a museum! Oh wait, there is a museum in the basement! There is a complete fossilized skeleton of a cave bear down there, along with other, rather large specimens of Otherworldly animals! I purposely did not post pictures of the inside as I would love for you to visit the shop in person! So there! Thats my review!!!!!

Small place but yet amazing.This time around I got sodalite pendants for the kids 2 dinosaurs and a butterfly. Plus our own goodies . Cant wait for our next trip .

Great selection, however wasnt really able to peruse as upon entering was greeted with were closing in 7 minutes as they hovered over my shoulder asking if they could assist me along and reminding yet again at the 2 minute mark that it was time to check out. As an energy healer, its known that selecting crystals is not a process to be rushed. I wish the staff was aware of this and that the environment wa more welcoming and patient. I will not be shopping there again

PEACEFUL, POSITIVE, AND PLEASURABLE shop. I have purchased several pieces from this shop and I am in love with everything I have purchased including my jewelry pieces. I even got a piece customized for me by Raquel. I have received lots of compliments on my necklace. I will definitely return and have spreaded the word about this place.

So blessed to have such an excellent gem and mineral shop in our community! They always have high quality items and they have information about the origin of their products readily available. The prices are really reasonable as well. Since crystals have become more popular, many places have started charging exorbitant prices, but Daves hasnt followed this trend. This keeps rock collecting accessible for everyone, which I totally respect. The staff is really nice and helpful. They take the time to package your items nicely and will include information cards if you request it. They also have an excellent free fossil museum in the basement. You can easily spend a couple of hours here and I frequently do. I cant say enough good things about Daves. If you love crystals, fossils and gemstones, you really need to visit Daves immediately!

We took our kids there and they loved it. They are in a fossil craze right now and enjoyed the mini museum in the basement. The prices are high for the real fossils, but have a bargain bin that allows everyone to get something for the kids.

They have the most amazing peices Ive seen, and prices a fair.

I live about 6 hours away so visiting the shop isn’t exactly easy. The online store is good but was curious what else they had so I contacted them via email. James took time to listen to my request and sent a bunch of pictures of geodes in my range. Absolutely great customer service and my amethyst geode is fantastic! Highly recommend Dave’s!

A good geology store is hard to find, and this isnt it. Very rude owner and staff who turn absolutely hostile to any customer who might have the tiniest criticism about the shop. Im giving them two stars because their prices are fair and the mini museum is fascinating, but after my last few experiences with the workers there, I think Ill stick to ordering specimens from genuine and wholesome sellers online. It might be trickier to get something real, but what matters most to me is supporting kind and passionate people, and theyre not here.

Favorite gemstone? They most likely have it in a necklace, earring, ring, ect.. nice polite workers. Parking on street or a little parking block a few doors down. (Parking meters) a cute little exhibit downstairs. There are ALOT of things to look at, so its a good place if youre into fossils, geodes, gemstones, and more.

Evanston institution, one of those really special old-Evanston independent shops. They also have this awesome little museum of fossils downstairs.Its crazy, I used to visit here in the old location with my preschool class, now I bring my kids!I also love giving people coprolite for Christmas. It never gets old.

The stones you buy from Daves Rock shop are high quality and low cost. Its one of my favorite places to go but I tend to end up buying so much that I didnt mean to purchase. Thats usually because they have the books you can use for free that help you navigate to selection and a knowledgeable staff that offers support. Best part is alllllll the stones you get to choose from. I think that there are lot of imitation places out there selling expensive (yet fake) stones but this isnt one. I highly recommend them.

Store is amazing! So many beautiful crystals, gems, fossils, hand carved rocks and minerals, beads & jewelry making supplies as well as very unique and beautiful jewelry, organized so well, making it easier to find something you like based on gem or color. I absolutely love this shop! If I can leave 10 stars, I would! Honestly, this shop has the best selection of Crystals, gemstones, minerals and fossils in the city. Everything is priced fairly, fitting any budget. When I first came in last year, I knew I had to keep coming back. Great staff and customer service, and a fun museum downstairs! This is a very incredible rock shop! A lot of the rocks are more expensive because of rarity or carving, but it is a great place to check out. There is also an amazing museum downstairs of fossils and bones.

This place is downright awesome. There is a wonderful small display of extremely amazing fossils in the back of the store including raptor claws, t-rex bones and am entire skull of a sabertooth car. Most of them in the millions of years old.

Im a bit of a Geology nerd myself, and I had a total blast at this shop. It is truly incredible here, and never fails to amaze me. Even if you arent really into old dead things and rocks, youll find something cool to stare at.

Ive passed by hundreds of times but never stopped in. Boy am I glad I did. It feels more like a cool museum than a store. So many different cool rocks and fossiles. Its a great place to find an unusual present. And the kids would love it too. Definitely worth checking out if youre in the area!

Theres such a large selection of stones, minerals and fossils to choose from it was hard to find a place to start. The staff was extremely helpful in suggesting particular stones for certain purposes. They have A TON of different stone beads and bead styles that its like a crafters paradise. Ill definitely be going back and bringing a few friends next time.

This place was extremely cool. The amount of interesting things to look at was a nice surprise. A great collection of fossils is free to view in the basement. If you are looking for an interesting gift this would be the place to visit. I will personally be returning at some point to purchase a couple of items to display in my home. There is something appealing and mysterious about owning something that has been around 490 million years, and will likely be around long after I have become dust. The prices also seemed reasonable for smaller items, although there are some very expensive specimens on display. Definitely worth a stop to check out.

I remember coming to this place as a kid, and the man working the cashier taught me quite a bit about both sales tax and geology! Today, Ive got dozens of mineral and fossil specimens because he sparked that in me. Unfortunately, todays workers at Daves are different- peddling all of this New Age crystal healing quackery. I get it- you guys have to pay the bills- but whenever I walk in nowadays, I leave with a bitter taste on my tongue knowing that I am supporting misinformation instead of appreciation of Earths treasures.

Jewelry and gem lovers....you MUST stop here. I always come back. They have supplies for jewelry-making and great pieces already made by local artists!

There are rock shops, and then there are ROCK SHOPS. This place satisfies the curious browser who is easily distracted by shiny objects as well as the hard-core rock, fossil and gem aficionado. They even have a free fossil museum in the downstairs part of the store! If youre in Evanston--- hell, in the Chicagoland area--this place is a cant-miss spot.

Daves down to Earth Rock Shop is amazing! ! Upon searching for gemstone and mineral shops around the Chicagoland area, this was one of the first to pop up. Im very glad that I decided to come here and I am already looking forward to my next visit!

Free museum in the basement was pretty cool. Lots of pretty stuff to look at up stairs too.It was pretty busy while we were there but they had lots of employees and everyone seemed very well helped.

This place is a real gem. My nine-year-old son and I love to spend long periods of time inspecting and learning about the massive variety of of rocks and fossils. There is jewelry and other gifts as well! The library of geology and fossil books as well as the large fossil museum in the basement are terrific. I cant believe they fit so much great stuff in a small place.

One of the best crystal shops, I go to Daves all the time, fair prices and the employees are very knowledgeable about the properties of each stone. The fossils in the back are amazing! Some are older than 100 million years!

What a gem(stone)! Wandered in here the other day, mostly to see what the place was about. Im not a rock person, so I probably cant say much to the variety and quality of their specimens, but as a lay person, I can say that they had some really beautiful rocks and fossils at what seemed to be quite reasonable prices. They had some really large geodes / crystal pieces that would make a terrific focal point for an elegant home or upscale office. Between a friend and I, we managed to spend about $180 before leaving, only $6 of that being on the milk-chocolate rocks. I think the pieces I got were great. The staff was more than happy to show us different items around the shop and to explain some of the fascinating colors and patterns we saw. Id happily recommend this place to a friend.

I could end the review right now, as thats sufficient reason to go *anywhere*.Ive been going here since I was a little kid who liked collecting interestingly shaped and colored rocks, and still stop in now and then. They have a nice variety of minerals, precious stones, and even some fossils and insects in amber from around the world. Theres also a few books on mineralogy for kids and adults. Theres also some crystal healing books for the New Age set, but you can ignore these and still learn something and have a good time looking at pretty rocks. Great place to take kids for an outing.

I love this place, as you might guess from the name they have rocks. Lots of rocks. But they also have fossils and other cool minerals. Theres even a tiny museum in the basement with cool fossils and rocks and stuff (all for free).
