Black Box Performing Arts Center

First time in this space for a jazz concert. Folding chairs were uncomfortable. Many steps (2 flights) up to the space. Those are definite negatives. On the positive side, the acoustics were fine.

Amazing theatre and such a team of actors that put on a better performance each show I see. Definitely worth it, so go see them!

Do not let the high reviews fool you; while the actors will pour their blood sweat and tears into the production and should be applauded for their efforts, this is not a review of them. This is a review of black box the company and specifically Matt Okin. This “man” is nothing short of a scam artist. Countless hard working performers go unpaid, overworked, and manipulated. He’s a liar, a cheat, and honestly shouldn’t be allowed to run a business. All actors applying for work there, you have been warned. Take your talent somewhere else and avoid the human refuse that is Matt Okin

I couldnt have asked for a more enjoyable time than I had performing at BBPAC for their main stage show. I thoroughly enjoy the range of productions Matt continues to select. A valuable company to work for, no matter your level of experience.

PERFECT for young kids. We took a group of 9 kids (ages 1 to 7) to see Junie B Jones and they LOVED it. They cant wait to go back. Very kid friendly.

Black Box Performing Arts Center is a gem in the Teaneck area! Always had terrific experiences working for the company, and enjoying the work as an audience member. Intimate, authentic theatre!

Be warned of Black Box Performing Arts Center in Teaneck, NJ and especially the company and the director Matt Okin who owe actors and musicians THOUSANDS of dollars. He promises to pay actors for their hard work at the end of the productions, but will instead create hundreds of excuses why there is no longer money available. Instead of saving up to pay performers back, he continues to put on shows, putting the company more and more in debt while simultaneously robbing hardworking, passionate and talented artists. He has been sued before and has somehow gotten away with it. I know many people who are struggling to get by because of people like him.I implore you to not support those who choose to steal artistic property from performers. I suggest going to one of the many wonderful performing arts spaces in New Jersey. I guarantee, the equipment, ideas, and true creativeness comes from the performers that he ends up stealing from.

Unbelievably innovative regional theater. Exactly what off off Broadway should be like. Reminiscent of east village experiments from decades ago.

I went here to watch a show my friend starred at. Its a small cozy atmosphere, really blackbox.

Local theater with interesting plays, but too small of a theater
