Great facility. Awesome history for such a small, unassuming community. Fun to be a part of where history happened! Great for picnics, walking, and learning. Special events at the Fort are incredible. Old Christmas celebration is my favorite!

This is such a beautiful local park in Elizabethton. The history is quite interesting regarding the contribution in the revolutionary war.The park itself is clean and well kept by the park workers, making it a very enjoyable place to walk your dog or have a picnic.

The free Watauga museum was historically and artfully displayed with life size statues and along with the fort helped you to visualize the time period and put yourself there...enjoyed the visit. There is also a nice 1mile trail to hike.

Nice visit, nice fortification. A pity that all of the living quarters were closed when we visited within the indicated opening hours. The visitor center nearby provides more information about the fort - there is little info shared at the fort itself.

This is a great place to walk! Very nice trails that are wooded and go all the way to the river. I havent spent much time up in the fort but it looks to be a reconstruction of a revolutionary era camp. There is ample parking.

This is a nice little historic park. I never understand why many of the historic markers are located along the side of the road and it is not easy of safe to pull over, get out of the car, to read and photograph them. Near the entrance of the park are 3 historic markers. The Fort is located behind the visitors center, and it is very well kept. I stopped by the Sunday of Veterans Day and they had reenactment in the fort. They also have some Crafters selling woven merchandise. When I saw them in the visitors center, all but 1 packed up and left/leaving. The only vendor left was one who was selling colorful long socks. The visitors center has a museum and a store. The trails in this park is pretty well maintained. I love the view of the river. If you love history, you will enjoy this park. It is also dogfriendly.

If you have an interest in history or nature, this is a great day trip for you and your kids Check out the authentic 1700s fort with wonderful interpreters. There is a gift shop with clean restrooms and a walk-through museum that describes what happened there between the Cherokee and the settlers. The 3rd weekend in May is their reenactment of the Seige of Watauga. You dont want to miss this event. There are period demonstrations all through the fort and the grounds; Period tents, cooking demos, firing demos, period music. Take a walk along the river and see the native wild flowers, vegetation, and the soaring sycamore trees. Your kids will love it too. Every year in July, the reenactors there put on an original play about the Cherokee and the settlers.
