This is a wonderfully kept and spacious museum with rotating exhibits that highlight the history of the area. We spent a couple hours wandering around and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff was friendly and it wasnt very crowded on the weekday that we went. The surrounding area is also nice, with a big park across the street with a view of the waterfront. Its definitely a place you should check out if youre in the area!

We have been here several times since they moved to this location several years ago. We especially love visiting the gift shop during the holiday season to get gifts for our family members. Staff is always friendly and helpful. They have events here throughout the year too.
This was an amazing place to visit! I took my kids over Spring Break, and they really enjoyed it. My teenager actually put her phone in her pocket and didnt pick it up for over two hours! We learned so much about the Albermarle area, Blackbeard, stopped in the gift shop, and so much more. Definitely stop in for a wonderful time, and if possible, please leave a donation for the museum.

Love that they change some of the exhibits too!! Helps provide good history for the area and has a couple memorabilia from when my mother-in-law and husband were children. Makes it more personal and community based.

Wonderful facility, friendly staff, great educational resource for schools within range. Valuable introduction to the region and its history. As so often true, could do more to connect the destruction of indigenous people, impact of slavery and racism with the narrative.

Interesting small museum. Good place to take children. They have a nice play area and some interactive exhibits.
This whole area is actually very interesting and even though Elizabeth City and Edenton are small towns, they have been well documented over the years including what has happened in the other surrounding counties nestled here along the Albemarle.Unfortunately our history stands in the shadow of places like the Outer Banks, and the Colonial Triangle (Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown) so you would be amazed at how much history is right under your feet. The museum is a great place to visit for both adults and children and Ive never seen it all that busy which to me is a good thing. Id say the building is split in half with one part being recent and the other half is the truly historical stuff. They have a good collection of recent history (just cool objects from the early 1900s that give you an idea of what life was like in a small southern farm town) and the second part I spoke of has a ton of information ranging from the civil war all the way to colonial times where this area was used for secret hideaways for pirates and merchants. Also they cover some aspects of the natives that lived here.
A beautiful museum showcasing local history of life in the Albemarle. Exhibits are well displayed. Locals should visit and tourists are sure to enjoy!
