It had been several years that I had visited Ascarate Park and what a pleasant surprise. There were many, many families enjoying the lake and picnic areas. There were even several families using the grills provided by the park. You could definitely feel a great family environment and safe feeling as there were several Law enforcement vehicles patrolling the area. Park and lake recommended for a day at the park, picnic or cook-out.
I love cruising at the lake and seeing all the ducks swimming... Its Awesome!!!
This is a hidden gem that could offer so much. A boat was suppose to come and remove all the moss and what happened? Fish are dying fishing for moss not fun. Instead of a downtown arena spend the wasted law suits and revitalize the only lake we have. Venues like goofy golf or an amusement park could make this place make money and something to be proud of. Our leadership is losing a great opportunity.
I had not been here in years and was pleasantly surprised. Theres a walking path around the man made lake that makes for a nice walk on the gravel path. There are many ducks and other birds too.People were fishing, barbecuing and enjoying the park. Its better than I expected though it could certainly use some TLC/ beautification. I saw a couple of dead fish floating - making me wonder if its safe for them.
Played the golf course. Very inexpensive. County park. Decent greens to enjoy.
Very nice place to walk alone with your doog or with your husband, wife or friend!!
To many weeds in the water kept loseing my hooks and sinkers, it could be better
Nice day. Went and fed the ducks. Just to get out the house. Wish I knew how to play golf. Not too many people. Playgrounds are closed. People mostly fishing, jogging. and walking around the park.
Great course. Friendly people. Good prices. A plus
Not to busy nice trail around Lake also well lit a few little fishing ponds we have enjoyed each visit
Great walking trail by the lake. There are trees so you can walk in the afternoon. Not that full, at least on the weekdays. The lake actually clear right now.
I was excited to find there was actually a place to fish in El Paso. My wife and I went and got our fishing licenses and headed out for an evening of fishing. I was never more disappointed at what we found. Who ever is in charge of this 48 acre lake should be ashamed. I might even go as far to say that she should be fired! The vegetation in this lake is the worst Ive seen in any body of water, anywhere. I commend you on your stocking of this lake with, as I understand it, trout, bass & catfish, but make the lake fishable! I would recommend stocking with tilapia. See blog.pondking.com.
The water is clean u can actually see thru the water.Loved all the ducks n Geese in the lake. Only bad thing some restrooms were closed n the water to wash ur hands didnt work . I had hand soap on my hands till I got home. But it was Firme.
Very sad that all fish died (I looked very hard in many different spots and did not see any and heard about the fish kill too) and they are not aggressively replaced since the entire city only has 1 public lake to share with their families. It gives the impression that City government seems concerned only about their own needs and not of the very community they were created to serve. The poeple of El Paso should demand accountability from their city officials to do what is right.
Great anytime! Plenty of activities to do and enjoy.
Theyre fixing the roads and its a lot smoother. Awesome!
Cheap, quick outings. I take kids and pets here just to chill and feed the ducks. Clean park.
I love this park! the only thing that bothers me is that people have to pay in cash for the entrance. It is 2 dollars to go in, and they only accept cash. If you do not have 2 dollars cash they will make you turn around!
Nice park but unfortunately we did not catch any fish that day.
Great for fishing and relaxing great effort on who ever is running it the lake had really improved i see the water is being taken care of as well as the bottom of lake thanks to the mew machine to clean the algea and trash that might fall in on ocassion. Im an outdoors man always been since i was a child one early morning me and my two boys caught and released 140 fish from 6:00 a.m. to4:30pm. Great job staff for keeping up the lake so clean your job really matters again thank you for all you guys do always remember the steps of a good man are always directed by the lord God bless.
It was fun and relaxing also enjoyed the ducks company.
Duck Pond, bring bird seed to feed them! Lots of beautiful spots to sit and enjoy, fishing, playgrounds, pavilions, and an aquatic center all right next to a golf course.
Very good place to go, its clean. Excellent place to come and walk spend time with family and friends, not so sure about the fishing yet ?
Perfect place to enjoy a nice walk and picnic with family.
Its a nice getaway from home. Had dinner with my hubby on one of the picnic tables in the evening.
Ive been coming to this park my whole life. Born and raised in EP. So many memories. And now I get to share it with my husband and kids and keep making memories at this park. Love it!
My dog loves to swim here. His favorite place to fetch.
I really enjoy walking around the park and watching the birds..... lots of ducks and other aquatic birds. The geese are best left alone. I also like to watch the people fish, especially families. I have friends that have wonderful memories of this park. The only complaint that I have, actually isnt with the park itself..... its with some of the visitors.... there can be a trash can a few steps away, and theyll throw their trash on the ground... no respect for what they have.
Always a blasts with family and friends grilling or fishing so many things to do.
Ascarate Park needs major improvements. I believe it is the heart of El Paso, where many events and gatherings can take place, but its been neglected for too long. It has a lot of natural beauty, but it could use a botanical garden, an amusement park area, like Six Falgs, the bathrooms need a major up lift, hire people to tend them. The park could use an area for a dog park, so dogs could be let loose to run. More can, and has to be done with this once beautiful and social gathering park.
Not much fish! But youll have a fun time in family
Love having my strolls there
This park needs some help. Has so much potential yet it seems like a ghost town.
Poor upkeep, invasive aquatic plants choking out stocked fish and wildlife. Water smells like dirty earring backs.
Came to BBQ and they have more than enough grills. Water is nice too
They covid testing lines are terrible.
Miserable time, trying to navigate through all the rocks and dirt, and poorly entrances, and exits in the baseball park area. Couldn’t even get to the restroom facilities... on top of all this, I had to watch my son play baseball, over the weekend, from my vehicle. Roughly, about 700 feet. I can’t believe I had to pay for entrance into the park, as a paralyzed patron, to experience this. Kudos Ascarate, great job. I hope you’re picking up on the sarcasm...
Why hasnt the city stocked the big lake with fish yet. If its safe to fish in the small lake then its safe to fish in the big lake
Theres been a lot of weeds in the water recently
I never been there in the play golf restaurant and it was very organized but they need more people to clean the place and remodel the place and in the store they need more supplies tshirts staples in the office its look poor
One of my favorite parks to run around. Some of the best sunset scenarios of El Paso.
We love visiting the park because its a pretty big place to walk your dogs, ride bikes, fish, picnics, and spend time with fam. Feeding the ducks is my sons favorite, not to mention you tell your kids all the stories and memories of back in the day when Western Playland was still there.I recomend it to people who havent been, its one of the many classic pit stops of El Chuco for sure.
Good to take the kids out to get some sun and fresh air!!
It was alright. We didnt catch fish but it was fun to try.
Nice evening, breeze and fresh.
A nice place to spend the evening by the lake. Saw a lot of people on picnic and fishing. Beautiful to watch sunset.
Dirty and unattended....A lot people there but a lot of trash all around us
Fun, lovely view, and youre able to fish too. The bathrooms were clean and had toilet paper. Great place to relax alone or come with friends and family to grill.
My wife and baby daughter brought me out here for Fathers Day 2020 and it was amazing! 2$ to get parking for the family and we walked around the lake taking photos of all the wildlife, sunrise and water spouts in the lake. When COVID-19 lifts more completely we will be able to experience the waterpark, swings and sporting events that are held at Ascarte Park.Highly recommend taking the family early in the morning before the heat hits aroun 8:45ish and soak up the fresh air.
This park is beautiful and you can most definitly take a day trip here and picnic with the grill. There is the lovely lake in the middle and playgrounds. Parking is $2 cash or $5 if they have an event. Wonderful spot for the whole family
The lake was full to the brim, the water is looking a lit cleaner and healthier
The city can do better.
Great place for the weekend with the family
Clean and safe great to relax and walk your dogs!
It was great. They have it clean, well maintained.
They just recently stocked the lake which was a long time coming. As the fish get acclimated, dont expect too many bites or catches.
Clean the water, bath rooms were nasty, no toilet paper. Bring back Western Playland
Cool nice calm place great place to fish now
The one and only beautiful park in El paso love it
Great facility. Parking within the building perimeter is limited though.
Love this Park and the Lake with the ducks and fish. The car cruise and shows is pretty fun to visit. Was better when Western Playland was there had alot of fun as a child.
We come here every so often to fish with the kids and have a little picnic and enjoy some family time. The children enjoy feeding the ducks and seeing various other wildlife we have seen there such as a water snake, kangaroo mouse, turtles and various fish at times. Nice to get out for awhile. Just a nice space in the city to relax. Fishing, walking trail and plenty of birds to watch. Very peaceful, even if you are onlygoing to sit and watch the water.
The water needs to be cleaned. It is murky and has tall grass and weeds and is very difficult to fish in. I dont believe they have stocked the Lake did not see any fish. I took my son to fish and he was very disappointed.
Its efreshing to see that the city of El Paso is doing free events you can enjoy as a couple or with your family. Great idea! Hopefully they will do the same thing in the Spring and Summer.
Very beautiful park, great scenery and lots to do.
Some cool ducks nice lake. Dont overfish and throw your trash away so the wildlife doesnt eat it. Keep it a great low fee park !
Nice park. I enjoy fishing on the lake. Bathrooms never have soap.
Love how nice it is. Should have more trees or shelters to protect people from the hot El Paso sun. But it can be fun. Plenty of room to picnic, play games with the kids and if you want you can even do some fishing. Just be patient. You catch one eventually. Great job county. Just keep it going.
Didnt notice anything especially attractive. Its rather sparse & desolate on the particular weekday evening i visited. The sheriff car unit seemed to follow others too much for comfort. Pretty boring overall.
The place is a shame they rather build stadiums than fix our parks
Clean fishing available family oriented restrooms a pool. Supposedly stocked, but never catch nothing lol. Its all good family time. Plus great place for my grandbaby to get super tired.
This place has so many issues.1.the lake is dirty2.there are lots of dead fish3.what the point of fishing when they are all DEAD!!!!
It is a huge park and also has a pool inside. Tennis courts, basketball courts, the walls for wall ball and a lake! plenty of playgrounds for the kids as well. Clean and calm picnic areas available.
We need to get together and demand more for our tax dollars spent in the Park.I grew up in this lake.. I do appreciate the hard working people who care for the place.Other lakes in Texas might get more money. Why not us.I was disappointed to find out about the many dead fish floating on top, at a point we counted 23 good size fish. That was only in one place. What image do we reflect to our outside visitors that come to check out the lake. What can we do to upgrade the much needed look of our own And only lake in El Paso.Is privatize the solution?I think It is.Hopefully.. But realistically very little will be done
Peaceful where there is no construction going on
Great park to take the family and picnic, run, or even bike. The summer months its usually busier but winter months its usually empty
Never any fish or rental boats. Everything is still roped off, not that I cared about that anyway.
Showed up at 8:25 gates closed. Park closes at 8:30pm or earlier not 9pm at stated. Drove all the way over there for nothing.
This is where my granddaughter started learning how to drive my truck on a week day when the park was not so populated. A few times we walked by the Lake for site seeing, the ducks and exotic birds dominated the scene with a few paddle boats on the water on a beautiful 94° F breezy day. A perfect picnic day
Nice walking area, great fishing areas and dock for the kids. Play grounds have been there for decades but still fun. Great place to feed the stupid ducks and cook out with friends and family.
Fun place to hang out with family and friends!
Local lake run by EP County. $2 to get in on the weekends (sometimes up to $5 if there is a special event going on). Decent place to fish and picnic with the family. You need a TX state license.
Its very fun, you can either be at the park or in the pool! Love it!
Park is so beautiful at love it.
