Super cool! Really awesome historic things. Wish we could have gone all the way up to the third floor.
I took my 10 year old daughter for tea at the Mathias House for Christmas. It was the most enjoyable day. Vicki is the most gracious innkeeper. I look forward to being able to spend the night at the Bed and Breakfast. Vicki gave us a fabulous tour of the house and the rooms are decorated to perfection. They are so true to the era and absolutely gorgeous. Back to the tea which was delicious! The tea selection was phenomenal and the food was superb. We cannot wait to return. Finding the Mathias House and Vicki has truly been a blessing to us!
Great place! Tour guides are fantastic, and the gift shop is stock full of excellent options!
The house is amazing, very well done. The tour for Halloween is not great. I would recommend going during their normal season when they actually talk more about the house.
Historical building in very good shape.
Loved learning details of the house and life during the era. Tour guide was knowledgeable and was able to simplify everything for my 6 year old.
Wonderful historic events year round
AWESOME! Something interesting for everyone. Docents make history come alive!!
Nice well kept up house and land. Cheap price.
A beautiful, well kept piece of Dubuque history. The annual 4th of July Ice Cream Social is one of our familys favorite traditions!
We went here because my daughter says it is a haunted house. It has great history and is original inside. You cant take pictures in the house but you can outside the house. We loved it.
Was a nice family event.
Very nice to visit and learn about some of Dubuques history. Went there for the Independece Day Ice Cream Social. Musicians, food available for purchase, different stations of interest and activities good for the younger attendees. Overall a nice family outing. If you deem this review helpful, please give it a like. Thank you.
I have been wanting to go to the 4th of July Ice Cream Social since moving to Dubuque 5 years ago. They did a great job. Both of my kids (15 & 4) found different things they each liked between the tours, showing how things were done in the 1800s-early 1900s
Interesting glimpse into local history. appreciate all the volunteers who make the house function. On the 4th they have special tours and Exhibits including actual Cannon being fired
Dessert part of a progressive dinner.
Excellent tour. Enjoyed the cannon fire demonstration. Neat one room schoolhouse.
Very unique and very interesting
It has a nice tour its really affordable. I recommend it highly.
Incredible place to delve into the rich history of the oldest and best city in Iowa. Only downside to the Mathias Ham House is that it isn’t open 24 hours a day :(
Great tour, worth the time.
The reenactors seemed not organized and conflicted between themselves with my group, but did know many facts about the residents, history of the building and grounds. The house itself is in Desperate need of basic upkeep, repair and restoration. Many pieces of furniture and furnishings were from other periods and out of place. It gave the impression of an eclectic garage sale collection.
Very nice tour guides
Nice home, very informative docent
It was closed the afternoon we went, even though the recording said it would be open. Lovely little exterior too bad we couldnt see the interior.
Nice place to visit get a little education on history of dubuque.
Very interesting tour
Always have fun things to do with family during the summer. Ice cream social is pretty awesome
Nice place but only open Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It is not stated the times of year on any web site. Wasted trip.
This is such. A great place to be when the 4th of July comes around . They have an ice cream social and different music then
Too hot for me
I liked how much history is in the house and how the house is the original thing.
Even after living in the Dubuque area most of my life, I had never visited the Mathias Ham House, or even considered it, until we looked for a family outing for this past 4th of July. There was much more to it than Id expected, and Im very glad I went.
Scary to go visit!
